Friend, I am explaining why I think politics has invaded the hobby, not that hobbyists have just suddenly taken up politics. There is a reason we see this more now than we used to.

At the risk of turning things political, please don't try and pretend that the right hasn't drifted pretty far to the right as well. You can't say "happy holidays" without some teabagger convinced you're trying to start a war on Christmas, for example.

If you look at the American political history, you'd know that's not the case. 50 years ago the entire country was far more conservative than it is now - JFK would have been considered a conservative. The US has been drifting left for over 100 years, just like the rest of the West.

Look, my point is that if I sit down to run a game I will not bring up politics at all...unless a player begins to complain that I am somehow bigoted for not including a spectrum of sexual orientations, races, and trans people in my setting. At that point, politics has been thrust upon me, which is something SJWs do to everything they touch.

Perhaps the question to ask is not whether or not he was serious, but whether or not it matters, as in either case he is being inconsistent with OP's wishes by inserting politics into a previously apolitical space.

Going back to what said, I think a lot of what's wrong with modern politics stems from social media. There's always been periods where things were more politically charged, but even during those periods there was a large chunk of the population who didn't know or particularly care about any of it. Nowadays, you don't need to read articles or watch the news to have strong political opinions, you just need to regurgitate stuff you saw on your FB feed, which is largely the most partisan and sensationalized. Instead of being the dead center, the terminally uninformed are now the fringe.

I leave politics out of everything I do in this hobby, but I have personally experienced people on the left side of the spectrum inflict politics into my games. I am just trying to explain what I think is causing OP's frustration - as it turns out, there is probably a political reason for politics being in the games more now than they used to be. Discussing that civilly really shouldn't ruin your day.
