Close, but not quite. The animal features are very minor and are more of a "tell" than anything else. Kitsune try to hide them so they aren't outed as demons

An arc where the character has amnesia and is trying to get their bearings can be good if executed properly, though. It's only awful when they use it to have no personality and no backstory at all.

I died maybe 20 minutes into the first session because my character was lethally addicted to this particular drug, didn't remember his addiction, and died from the withdrawal symptoms, having passed up taking that kind of crap because it would be really bad for him to get hooked.

It was one of several proffered characters, and while I wasn't forced into playing that particular one, it did look enticing and once I accepted it, I was stuck with the pre-written backstory. So yes, in a weak sense.

That's pretty rough. I think your GM should have been a bit more lenient, given the circumstances.

If anyone wants to have amnesia, that's fine. They want to have me make this amnesiac character's backstory, that's fine too... in fact, I mandate it.

So, am I in the minority of people on character design that think pretty much any character, so long as they fit the setting and have a well done backstory, is okay for a character to play?

Granted, I have a longtime group that has run hundreds of story lines (we have been together since '81) and they all RP their characters well.

There were some issues in regards to anime style characters for a couple years, but once they came around and started reading up into some Japanese mythology, it hammered itself out as we started running the occasional Asian themed campaign.
