How does your PC get along with his dad?

How does your PC get along with his dad?

Pretty good. He showed up in our campaign and turned out to be a top tier bro

My last PC got along...poorly. He was a young, excitable romantic who rarely stuck to any one thing for very long, getting himself in trouble and wasting rather large amounts of money as a result. Becoming an adventurer was his latest whim.

His father was a practical, methodical man, the owner of a large shipping company that acted as a front for a secret society. He was infinitely frustrated with his son's flightiness and - as he saw it - irresponsibility.

>having family

Very well. Dad died when he was just a lad, but he occasionally descends from Valhalla to offer both his divine rage, and his unique style of parenting, often leaving the party very confused.
>Ach! By the gods! What blind leper forged your axe?
>Father, it in an ancient relic-
>Relic my ass! It looks worse than your mother's roasts! Bless her soul, she can cook a mean stew, but couldn't bake a roast to-
>I am pretty sure it was the lost people of-
>YOU INTERRUPT? HAVE YOU NO MANNERS? I should come down more often, just so you don't go pickin' up these "artifacts" that look like a dragon rammed its scaly member down the center of a tree trunk and had the GALL.
>Father, this is nit the ti-
>THE GALL, to call it an axe!

>this guy gets it

Depends on the character.
>one of them has gone full "fuck you dad" and has gone adventuring and fully intends to kill his father and take his assets at some point
>another one has gone adventuring against the will of the father but is more chaotic and doing it out of wanderlust more than spite
>one actually gets along pretty well with his dad and learned winebrewing from him before setting out on his adventures with the family wine recipe, still goes fishing with him if he's in town during downtime activities
>one respects and fears his father but hopes to surpass him one day
Now that I think about it I think I might be in too many games.

>Isaac Abraham Slaughter
He once wished that his dad wouldn't drink so much. Now, with his sister dead and after slumming up some Byachees, he's past that: he's just happy that his father somehow managed to stay alive despite all that, and will protect him with his god damn life.

>Tadellos "Blaze" Faust
His parents died soon after he was born, he was cared for by his elder sister.

>Taiva
He killed his dad.

>Ethan "Third" Sinclair
His parents think he's dead, though they're not really sure.

>The Hamster
His parents think he was killed off by his corp. He makes sure they keep thinking that.

>Frank Oppenheimer
It's never been brought to focus. His dad is probably dead, considering that Frank is now two centuries old.

>Joseph Leguerrier
They were probably killed by his demonic mindmate.

>Caennai an Bhais
They don't talk much, what with them being regions apart. He wants to dethrone his father's corporate empire by making firearms widely available.

Not well. He killed him too

>PCs
>having parents

Shadowrunner, he hasn't since he had his breakdown and fell into the shadows.
It's a shame, too. They used to be great friends until he became ill.

PC was a bastard dad abandoned

if they met they wouldn't even know

Occasional hugs, occasional attempted murder.

What was his deal with toast

I don't have a PC currently, but one of the PCs has a hatred for her (crazy) mother and thankfully-not-incestuous admiration for her father that comes from him trying to be a good parent.

He actually got kicked out at the beginning of the campaign for buying/rescuing an elf slave, which in turn caused the family of the girl he was supposed to marry cancel the arrangements and made his family lose prestige

His dad is Rogal Dorn

My current pc suffered amnesia but used to be in the local gang, he was estranged from his parents when he went missing, and though his mother welcomed him back trying to pretend nothing was wrong, his father came right out and said, “Mike, you’re an asshole and I want you out of my house.”

Just played an orphan one shot the other night, and though I didn’t really think of a backstory for him, I think he evolved into having criminal parents. My character was the techy 9 year old and when the other kids asked him how he knew how to hotwire a car my response was, “Didn’t your parents ever teach you anything before you came here?”

>half-elf Red Mage in a Final Fantasy campaign
His dad was an Elezen politician who fucked a maid and kicked her out when he found out she was pregnant. She had to leave her son at the church as a child because she didn't have the means to support him.

50 years later, red mage ran a campaign against his father and dropped the bombshell that he was his son, and that his father was an adulterer and child abandoner. Ruined his reputation and caused him to lose the election.

So not very good.

>dad died in a mining accident
>dad vanished a long time ago
>parents blew up from an accident
>is on good terms with dad, but is currently on mission to reclaim glory for tribe
i should really reconsider my choices of PCs

Doesn't know him. Half elf, very intimidating single mother, etc. He grew up being the man around the farm.

Well one is a 700 year old elf, so his dad died a long time ago. The other decided that being a noble sounded less exciting than running away at the age of 12 and honing his fire magic. He doesn't really talk to his dad, but he drops by every few years to say hi to his mom. I doubt his dad really wants to talk to him either, considering how adamant he was that "silly magicians never amount to anything unless they follow the divine lead of nobility." Joke's on him, my character is one of the most powerful Sorcerers to ever live.
Though I suppose the joke is on my character, too, as he really hasn't done anything that important with his power.

Quite well, sends her space letters across space internet every week. Though they've been in some rough spots since her dad is space conservative and she's a rebel without a cause if she showed up at his door he'd gladly take her in.

Probably have a good ol time if they don't act like little bitches about their different world views.

JJBA campaign char is on good terms with her dad, although he'd wish her mother didn't strongarm him into using the US army as her personal bodyguard.

Currently Spelljammer campaign character last saw his dad when they were sneaking to the literal edge of their pocket plane so he could escape and find a new world for the lot of his race to live in. He was already succumbing to the ambient madness in the pocket plane.

Great. In fact his dad over about a decade forged him a masterwork longsword as a personal project just because my PC has been a longsword combat specialist for most of his life.

pic related. His dad.

His dad passed away 30 years ago, but at the time he got along with him.

Pretty good until he died. He was a single father and did his best to raise them in a ghetto after mom skipped out on them both

...

Cold and formal. There's many disagreements in their worldviews and choice of methods, but as long as wayward daughter keeps bringing wealth and new territories under family banner, the rest of the bloodline has to recognize her.

Died while he was still in his mom's womb. Dad's BFF and old adventuring partner took on the role and their relationship is pretty fucking solid though.

My character was raised in an orphanage by a kindly old priest. She has a very good relationship with him. Once she became rich from adventuring she bought him a brewery on the assumption that all men when they get old want to own a brewery. Apparently the beer he makes is awful.

Poorly. His father is disappointed in him for not getting into the family trade of being merchants.
Instead my PC went to study fucking magic.
To top it of he accumulated a gambling debt and had to flee, stealing several valuable books from his mentor, tarnishing the family name even more.
He can't even show his face at home any more.
He hopes to achieve fame and glory as a wizard to regain his fathers respect.

One is dead, because the character in question is fifty five and people have this thing where they die when they get old.

The other, they have some disagreements that led to her leaving home, but overall they love each other and would turn the world upside down for each other if need be.

His dad is a high tier member of a succesful necromancy cult and a enforcer of said cult
He's a cleric of the sun god, who hates undead (along with most life, but that's another story.) because teen rebel and stuff, that and turning mom into a zombie for some fucking reason.

They get on greeeaaat.
This is what I get for telling my DM that if he wants, he can write who my dad is. I think he did it to spite me.

>that and turning mom into a zombie for some fucking reason.
You know what would be funny? If she agreed to it because she liked the benefits of being undead.
I gotta do that for a game.
>Mom, you turned Dad into a cyborg abomination!
>But he likes it like this!

>Playing as a CG Dwarf Cleric
>Our DM made us post our character's backstory on Facebook so he could approve it
>Have a whole thing about his family being his motivation to get stronger, join the army, etc.
>DM critiques/comments on everyone else but mine
>Many months later, we're making a "deal with the devil" to save a whole town
>He's holding the town hostage while he completes a spell, and has a trinket that binds him to it
>If we break the trinket before he completes the spell, the town is saved. But if he thinks we're going to do it, he'll start annihilating the town.
>Looking back, the DM was clearly intending for him to become the BBEG for the next leg of the campaign
>We convince him not to fight us without hearing our words first, and I decide to step forward to help him complete the spell
>He doesn't trust me, rightfully, and forces me to swear on my life and soul
>I say that if he were to try take my soul, the god I have pledged it to would strike him down
>Instead I offer, if it pleases him, the life and soul of my father, (insert father's name and titles for dramatic effect), and should I betray him then my father would be his.
>DM tells me to roll for bluff. I say I'm not lying. Instead roll for persuasion with a low DC, and easily pass.
>Step up to him and immediately smash the trinket
>The DM starts prepping things for combat, saying that this is the last chance to save your father
>I calmly reply "Nope. We had a deal. Off you go then."

>DM and group look at me like you're insane.
>DM: "Uh, a good guy wouldn't do that."
>"Well, in the backstory I pretty clearly wrote that my character's father severely abused and beat his wife and kids, often to the point of near death. It's within reason that my character would punish evil."
>DM: "Well, your god wouldn't like it, and would disown you..."
>"Why? Because my actions saved hundreds of lives at the expense of someone who has escaped justice for centuries. Sounds like something my god would love."
>DM: "Well, your family and the dwarves would hate you."
>"So what? My character already hates the rest of the dwarves he knows. They wrote laws that made it so my father could keep beating his family. That's why my character isn't lawful good."
>DM: "You're just making all this up, right?"
>Proceed to take five+ minutes scrolling through old Facebook stuff to find my character's backstory, which says, in a post from months and months before, everything that I just said, which the DM approved.
>The DM proceeded to scratch his head and eventually just go "Yeah. Okay. You stop the spell and the demon leaves with your father's soul. You did saved the day."
>The session ended about half an hour early that day
>Shortly after, the DM requested that his friend take over being DM.

Oh fuck don't give him ideas.

I really don't know why though, I was basically told "You came home one day, your dad is there, so is your mom, she lunges at you." any attempt to find out WHY has met with complete silence, lies or been interrupted.

Then again we're not really focusing on player character stories or we're not doing so yet.

Yorick the dragonborn fighter: never had his dad show up, so I just presume he died at some point before the game started. He did get along with his Mom and Brother though, even had a heartwarming bit chatting with them.
Tracey: A kobold in a dungeon crawl, so, y'know, nothing parental came of that.
Sleeve Archideld; Lord of the trash: the guy was born a slave and magically nuked everything when he first gained his power (changed system to one where the PCs are super human/elf/alien), so parents never even came up in that.
Astrid Hirika: She was literally a vocaloid program brought to life, no parents to be had. Pic related is the image I used for her on roll20.
Mirimia: A super ancient lich. Parents are long dead so I never bothered to really give the GM anything to make a backstory for them with.
Creak: A super-android that was recovered from a destroyed space station. Technically no direct parents/creators, but she's been more or less adopted by a professor who's been studying her that fills in as a father figure. Couldn't tell you how it's gone though, the GM had us whip up our character sheets but we haven't had our first session yet after like, a month and a half.

Heh, that made for a good laugh.

My pc got along with him pretty damn well. Only reason he's not working the farm with him and the rest of the family is the fact that my pc killed a noble trying to massacre a village that went against the state religion.

Sounds like a night at my in-laws!
HEY-OOOH!

>Wolfram

His father is the corrupt Prime Minister. Wolfram is a bastard child, serves in the army thinking the Prime Minister is a great guy, eventually they both find out the relation between them and Wolfram gets an up close look at how corrupt his dad is. Wolfram played the long con, eventually usurping his father and taking over.

>Helios Stormcutter

His father is pretty much a pencil pusher in the Celestial Bureaucracy while Helios is busy delivering divine judgement on the filthy sinners of the land, but the two are on good terms for the most part.

Not bad, though not great either. His father was a very minor noble who ascribed himself too much importance and essentially made work for himself in order to feel like he was in charge of something much larger than he actually was. Consequently, he was... not distant, but preoccupied, and never built an especially close bond with my character, or any of his other children. He was an above-average father with good parenting skills, but just wasn't very grounded and tended to spend a lot of time with his head in the clouds. They've not seen each other for some time (family got scattered and had their lands stolen) but I think my character misses him, all things considered.
