How many pieces of clothing should one own as an adventurer?

How many pieces of clothing should one own as an adventurer?

Two to three outfits if things are doing good, one outfit if not

One normal set of clothing.
One spare set of clothing.
A fancy set of clothing for parties and meeting noblemen.
A disguise.

Seconding this. 2-3 will work just fine for covering different situations, having some variety, etc. without being too cumbersome to take everywhere. If your adventure is the kind where you regularly get captured or never have a chance to rest, then clean clothes are a luxury.

0. Clothes are a shameful way of hiding your superior manhood away from the world. You should be charging into battle buck naked, erection raging, so that all will behold your masculinity and cringe in fear.

one outfit, + 1 extra cloak and pair of boots

It depends how fabulous they are. Two to three moderately sized wagons full should suffice for most situations. Lets face it, you probably won't need your silk lined embroidered tunic with extra puffy lace neck ruff, and the party probably will make fun of you for bringing it, but guess who'll be laughing if you get invited to a fancy masquerade ball. Suddenly look who's mister prepared and has his companions asking if they can borrow a spare set of clothes.

You should also own several different coloured sets of armour and wear the correct one depending on what colour the blood of your enemy is, so as not to clash.

Several dozens—mainly socks.

Head for protection/vision
Armor for element absorption/resistance
Boots for speed/walk bonus
Hands for fighting/magic bonus

Found the Dex Barbarian

2-3 outfits(at least one of which being dark colored for clandestine activities), ideally that can be worn on top of each other to better insulate against cold, as well as a good set of furs/a cloak for particularly cold environments. As well, a set of fine clothes for fitting into high society and 4-6 sets of smallclothes.

>CALL ON MEEEEEE

Own? A few key pieces (the enchanted majority of your armour, your cloak, etc)
Buy new in each strange place you visit, so your exoticism shows and your outfit becomes a map of your travels for the initiated? 2-3 outfits.

>War fit
>Party fit
>2-3 Relaxing fits
>Ritual fit
>Several Cloaks of differing material to protect against the elements
>An empty bottle

Do not disagree

First, collect 500 belts.

I'd say at least a dozen total, if you've a home. On the go, you'll probably wanna have 2-3 with you; one comfy for long journeys and everyday wear, one if you know you're getting in a scuffle, and maybe one for fine dining/seeing to the ladies/visiting their honorable husbands in daylight to get quests or rewards. just imagine yourself going on a backpack holiday, you'll need a change of clothes at some point. all that provided you aren't struggling a lot to get by.
or, if you're a stinking (read unsuccessfull) thief or mountain bandit, just stick with the smelly one, the one with the tattered overcloak...

Depends on sex. Men own one, women can have as many as two.

Depends on your role in the party and what kind of game it is.

Generally 2 for the less-social members of the party (combat and non-combat)

More social members of the party may augment those two with fancy clothes or disguises as well

I like how half the thread talks about sets of clothing when OP talked about PIECES of clothing.

>clothing

If shadowrun has taught me anything, you'll want five outfits.
>Edgy cyberpunk street clothes
>Nice suit that isn't tacky
>Hulking mass of metal plating and kevlar
>Trenchcoat, and nothing else
>A body bag

I spend enough time counting socks IRL

How much are you willing to carry? Pounds add up, unless they are socks. You can never have too many of those.

Regardless of how many outfits you have, always have at least a pound or more of socks in a sealed waterproof container. Wet feet is a fucking slog.

Shoes are the first thing to rot away.

The most fun character I've ever played was an enslaved Pict in a Roman setting for that exact reason.

Exactly 1 set.
If it gets dirty, too bad you go naked until it is cleaned.
