We all know The Crystal Star and Aftermath are the worst of the worst of their respective canons, but what other stories belong on the Shit-List?

Anything involving a certain Prince.

>Keep making retarded meme build PCs that I want to play
>Stuck GMiing the system so I never get to play them
FUCK

>but what other stories belong on the Shit-List?

anything involving a certain character than begins in R and ends in --- ---evan.

Trionoclopopulous is good though because the story is extremely bizarre yet in such a way that's so bad it's good and no one takes it seriously.

CS is extremely bizarre but shoots into the so bad it's bad territory and is an incredibly boring read, while AF is just so uninspired and awfully written at its core that it's so bad it's bad and even more boring to read, and both try really hard to be serious when they're too fucking laughable.

Entertaining bad is good though, but still on the Shit-List. Just not at the top.

Share some of your builds user. Force knows we need some role-playing discussion to round out all this autism

I dunno.
I always enjoy a good story where I get pants at the end

So what is this "Crystal Star" novel and why is it so awful?
I mean, it can't be that bad, can it?

... Can it? Saying it's the worst of the entire EU is a pretty bold claim, that's like 20 years of content...

Waru

It has centaurs.

which of the Legacies starters are gonna be better? I want a good Luke but at the same time I really want Boba Fett so I have a reason to utilize pic related
also, are ther any cheap deckholders for Destiny yet?

>implying that anything involving Trioculus is bad

All joking aside, I'm actually about to introduce him into an AoR game I'm running. Any advice on how to squeeze the maximum amount of ham from this? I'm torn between voicing him as Tim Curry or Raul Julia.

do a Christopher Walken voice.

I'm running a game on friday and I'm at a loss on how to start it, it's a criminal game set in the GCW a week prior to Endor, WEG D6

Raul Julia with Tim Curry as Moff Hissa.

Well I made a shard jedi in d6 I think, she inhabited a commando droid and used slug throwers, the plan was to use the force to curve the bullets

>The Crystal Star
That's not any of the Jedi Prince/Emperor's Son books, nor is it Legacy.

>d6
No thanks lets talk more about Xwing

Pls no. Pls just let us have this moment

>We all know The Crystal Star and Aftermath are the worst of the worst of their respective canons, but what other stories belong on the Shit-List?
Legacy of the Force by far.

The Second Galactic Civil War could have been an interesting new era to explore, but they just turned it into a 9 book series with three different authors, one of which was clearly not interested in playing ball with the other two. On top of that, it played up the war to be the biggest in-galaxy war since the first civil war, but it barely lasts a year. Also, the Confederation was largely made up of idiots (although, to be fair, the fact that they were mostly opportunists looking for an excuse to expand their own power is probably intentional).

The Second Galactic Civil War should have been like the first, hosting multiple stories and series instead of one mess of a book series.

Although, really, I would've preferred a new galactic war to not happen, since it's just kinda silly how the galaxy endures a massive war every five years. Yes, it's called Star WARS, but there's plenty of room for stories based around sector-sized conflicts instead. Like, a book series centering on the NJO and elements of the GA military attempting to stop a civil war or insurgency in one of the member states. Also, I got pretty sick of NJO books-on being something like 95% focused on the Skywalkers and Solos, while all the other characters, like Wedge, Corran, Kyle Katarn, and their friends/families being pushed into the background.

Fate of the Jedi wasn't great either, but it was more just boring than offensively bad.

Tim Curry would fit my childhood impression of Trioculus from the books the best, but if you're going for maximum ham in a fight then it's hard to beat Raul Julia.
>YOU COME HERE PREPARED TO FIGHT A MADMAN, AND INSTEAD YOU FOUND... A GOD?

Well first of all, rude

off the top of my head...
>wookiee medic that specs into commando and has shock boots so I can kick people in the face and then heal my teamates with my free hand.
>Besalisk gunslinger, but he's using 4 guns instead of just 2
>PC gunner in the cockpit of the X-wing but the real flying ace is the PC astromech hotshot in the astro slot
>Slicer species with 4+ eyes so I can wear multiple sets of hacker sunglasses.
>Propagandist that just posts nothing but fake news and shitposts on the holonet
>mr. all-the-credits: stack all the merchant specs and just be the best at buying and selling things

That looks pretty spiffy. Have not hat a chance to try the harpoons myself, butr they look nifty

Jedi and slugthrower rounds in general create some cool situations, the force is fun when paired with projectiles.

I once decided to open up an old-school slugthrower machine gun on one of the Jedi in my group in a FFG game.
Through some quick thinking the Jedi we had on team used Move on the bullets to catch them in mid-air. He didn't have much move, but all the bullets are silhouette 0, so I felt I had to let it slide because the image of a Jedi just standing in front of a hail of bullets, catching them all with the force, then dropping them to the floor like Neo was too cool to pass up.

Are the crew rebel aligned crims?
Imperial aligned crims?
Hutt aligned?
Neutral and just out to make dosh?

my god, these all sound hilarious. especially the Slicer.

either 2 or 4, as far as I can tell. I'm just stuck thinking of a decent starter mission for the group, which is divided into a bounty hunter and a mando, a smuggler and a slicer, and a merc.

Well, if theyre neutral with vague imperial leanings, just have them returning from their first group bounty.
Something small and simple - maybe just some low-tier pirate captain in some outlier system.
As they go to hand him over, he tells them he's a Rebel, and begs them to let him go.
We're assuming they dont
Once they get paid, their client offers them something a bit jucier - something more important. A number of Bothans have served their purpose and now, they need to die.

And then you have them hunting down Rebel agents.

Any word on the D6 rerelease?

So why didn't Tumblr Admiral tell Poe the plan? She could have saved a whole lot of lives.

Because she made a mistake and paid for it

Now that I think about it, half of Trioculus' lines seem to be ripped right from Bison's playbook.

>"Is it so wrong to be a murderer? Or a liar? Or an inhuman monster? I may be all of those things, but I still have a heart."

Because poe was a subordinate who fucked up.

I realized seconds after posting that a Gran would be even better. The second set of glasses is broken and the one eye piece sits over the third eye.

No, you idiot. That is civilian myth 101.
>I'm general I ain't got to explain shit

You baboon, in the military people in command MUST brief everyone involved and issue CLEAR and SPECIFIC orders that everyone has to follow because otherwise things go FUBAR and people die.

Not to mention being a cunt when most of leadership has been eliminated, you're facing the worst case scenario and your resources and personnel have been decimated does nothing. A good leader understands the importance of lifting MORALE, which you don't do by telling everyone to shut up and believe.

Why didnt Poe just do what he was told?

At the same time, they are being followed through hyperspace - something supposedly impossible at this point.

So, it's fair to assume they have a mole aboard, so the fewer people who know the plan the better.

i plan on making a bayonet charging commando like the highlanders of world war 2
what would be good talents for that kind of thing?
i was thinking of a soldier commando with as many toughness talents and the +1 to melee talent

the guy in question was going to be a fanatical ex-separatist who joined the rebellion to cause as much damage as possible to the empire before he dies of old age, and die a heroes death
he was a sincere and honorable CIS solider who wanted to destroy the republic, and irony of working with the alliance is completely lost on him

You know those people who call you and ask you to hang out, but never actually tell you when/where they want to meet up, and then get mad when you don't show up?

Holdo is the sci-fi equivalent of that.

And of those people you can damn well be sure that Poe the fucking hero of the resistance that destroyed Star Killer base and a Dreadnought isn't one of them.

>this shit again....

What species is he?

Commando would be a decent fit

Just pack an E-5 carbine for maximum separatist feel

If you need to stat the bayonet, just have it take an HP on your gun but you don't need to draw your weapon.

every star wars movie is basically 1942 in space
and common sense is pretty much non-existent

you can make a whole series about the things that go wrong in star wars

Except they were all on the same ship, so that’s not a good comparison. It was more like Poe was a tantrum throwing toddler when Holdo didn’t tell him what they were going to do and was basically told “be patient you’ll see”

Plus, her being portrayed as going against fatigues and not answering her subordinate was meant to make her seem like a FO agent and make her sacrifice much more powerful to the audience

out of universe the FO mole story is good shit, the problem is in universe

I've only read 1 new star wars book since Disney bought them, Tarkin, and it wasn't bad

i was thinking a really old human, or a duros

a vibroknife at the end of an e-5 carbine sounds cool, it could glow purple just as he unleashes his rebel yell

Would have been better if they suspected a spy on board.

morale was already at breaking point on the Raddus, pissing off the hothead fighter jock isn't a good plan when morale is as strenous as it was in that moment.

>Everyone fighting about whether Admiral Purplehair was a good leader or not
>Nobody talking about the true military genius of TLJ

>Plus, her being portrayed as going against fatigues and not answering her subordinate was meant to make her seem like a FO agent and make her sacrifice much more powerful to the audience

Leia looked and literally would have done the same. Once Poe's X-wing blew up he was useless and should have stepped the fuck away.

Remember if it wasn't for his shit attack at the beginning the rest of the ships could have been a defense force around the capital ships. But his attack crushed their starfighter support and the rest had to go get blown u in a hanger after repairs/refueling.

He's one of the few heroes who got told no in this series and it felt good for once.

>Neutral Imperial group of bounty hunters out doing things Dog style, cleaning up the trash.
>Find a particularly rich Imperial client who is ordering the termination of multiple oddly-chosen targets.
>Claims they're all evil criminals and provides "evidence" of it.
>Never alive, always dead.
>Slowly the bounty hunters realize the wealthy benefactor is a Rebel, and they've been conned into murdering high-priority Imperial agents this whole time.
>Empire gives them a chance at redemption and avengeance:
>take out the Rebel benefactor
>who also happens to have his own personal army of goons and grunts and Rebel operatives.
>Even getting near him now will require heist-level planning and prep.

Fenn NEEDS PTL here.

If he has a single action, he will die.

To scrape those extra 2 points, i'm not sure what to cut. Maybe make Guri into Thweek?

What ships? Those useless bombers wouldn't of been able to protect shit. Plus Kylo destroyed the hanger so they would have all been dead anyway.

>Those useless bombers wouldn't of been able to protect shit
what we see on camera is always a worst case scenario
the bombers have the ability to blow up a super star destroyer in a single run
their only weakness is speed, which has always been appreciated as the necessary downside of multi-crew bombers to have such a bombload
sure they seem fragile, but any none named character tends to die in a single volley, making the ultra-tough Y-wing roughly as survivable as a flimsy TIE on-screen

It wasn't just bombers that got destroyed. Also those ships in the hanger should have been outside instead of inside. They literally get fucked by four TIEs because of Poe's stupid stunt.

Agreed, they were better off trading those fighters for the dreadnought - if they hadn't killed the damn thing it would have been pursuing them too, and I doubt the Raddus was going to tank hits from those autocannons regardless of range.

>the most sensible man in the fleet
>outranked by an overzealous idiot son of a founding member of the FO kept by Snoke for essentially shits and giggles.
I’d keep that idiot in charge for shits and giggles just like Snoke, but I’d at least have a Tyrion to Hux’s Joffrey

Remember that time Rommel, the Hero of Germany, tried to kill Hitler?

So im trying to make wraith squadron in xcom for some shenanigans.
But this is the best I can do.

Fuck.

The only reason the bombers were able to destroy the ship is because the ship's small guns had been crippled by Poe and it couldn't shoot them all down in time.

The only reason the small guns were all crippled by Poe is because the fleet neglected to scramble their fighters upon entering the system, giving him free reign to do what he wanted.

The point I'm making is that the bombers are completely useless against a target that's prepared for them.

Hey, are Rakgouls (those zombie things from old republic) officially statted in any book?

bombers cant operate in isolation and need a fighter sweep and flak suppression to work properly?
sounds like a whole lot of bombers are useless

Nice.

because tumblrinas believe you should never question them and blindly follow, because they totally have your best interests at heart.

More importantly why didn't they fuck?

The Imperial Navy is King. FACT it is objectively superior to their rebellion counterparts from every logistical and technological aspect

and remember

>imperialposting is victorious on all fronts

It's not exactly false to say the Imperial Navy very rarely lost unless bad writing or plot armor or both were involved.

How does this sound for some writefagging? Set in the Rebellion Era, an Imperial Agent goes undercover in a rough asteroid mining company, and uncovers a web of corruption more sinister than Rebellion sympathizers.

I was thinking of making the asteroid habitats more "hard" in sense of rotating to generate gravity and that sort of thing to emphasize how primitive and workmanlike they are, even though I know physics and SW rarely mesh.

they were supposed to be a bureaucratic nightmare whose bloated army could rarely keep pace with the lightning strikes of the rebellion
and whose terror tactics bought short-term results but long term loss, as people would rather risk execution to defect rather than live under imperial command
and were constantly hemorrhaging the best tech to the rebels, as their constant cronyism benefited a few large companies under their thumb while the rest all had a vested interest in toppling the empire and getting rid of their attempts to corner the free market

But then telling Poe the plan was what ruined it

>victorious on all fronts
This but the Jedi temple when?

>mfw the professionals got replaced with screaming retards

>imperialposting is victorious on all fronts

Did you miss the part where rebels fractured the empire into tiny pieces? I remember that part.

The ISD and most imperial craft have obvious flaws. Their raised bridge means a squadron of fighters that catch it by surprise can blow it's shields and torpedo it's entire main command staff to hell. With heavier ordinance since most of the ships important bits are at the back you can hit the main bridge, secondary bridge, most of the main guns, shields, and thrusters in a few attack runs before they have time to properly counter.

Yes, TIE's running interference can do so in numbers to stop that, as can escorts sticking close, but imperial doctrine tends to keep fighters held in reserve and defines a destroyer as not needing a line backing it and operating separate from it. In a scenario where they empire is on defense, which will always be the majority of cases, an imperial ship will always be at heavy disadvantage.

Yet the Galactic Empire was still a better alternative to the Old/New Republic.

>. Their raised bridge means a squadron of fighters that catch it by surprise can blow it's shields and torpedo it's entire main command staff to hell.
raised bridges?
how unrealistic
its not like ships from the rough time period that SW is based on didnt have them

Better than the PT OR, sure, but we don't really have any way to compare all of those 25,000 years to the Empire.

Just have it so that something in the area makes artificial grav shonky - perhaps the material they're mining becomes highly unstable when affected by artificial gravity generator's energy patterns.
Bam.

Now you have spin gravity.

Sounds neat though, id give it a browse if you posted it.

Not true. The Empire was winning Endor until Vader killed Palpatine, and after that the Remnant was still more powerful than the New Republic, they just fragmented on their own.

If the TIEs stop the fighters/bombers then it's not a non-issue, since the ISD I and especially II models could take down any other capital ship of their time and prior in a one-one engagement. Superior firepower, superior training, superior targeting.

Fair enough.

Makes me wish we had more content in that time frame. We have a little, Disney has none, yet both universes barely scratch the surface.

>and after that the Remnant was still more powerful than the New Republic
the battle of endorwas supposed to sginal the turning point, where the rebellion was finally getting the empire on the ropes
if scarif and yavin was their first real victories, then endor was kursk, where initiative firmly passed
the final major battle, on jakku, had the republic win a huge and resounding conventional victory that finally ended any hope of imperial victory

Rememeber when Star Wars novels were written by Hugo winners? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
The Imp villain sucks and is also a man-cat, the alien cult leader villain is nonsensical, and the book has a lousy finale. OC centaur girl is fairy bullshit but she isn't the worst thing. That would be the OC catpeople, although them giving Leia shit for being a soi disant librul is sort of hilarious. The kids' kidnapping plot is pretty tired and it's only the fourth attempt. Han and Luke have a jealous quarrel over Leia. Lando is not at all smooth.
In short everyone is OOC and it isn't fun, it's just uncomfortable. It's especially disappointing because McIntyre is an OG science fiction author who did good work for Star Trek.
As for the shit list, I'd throw Children of the Jedi and The Dark Nest trilogy on the pile.

>more powerful than the New Republic
Yeah, that is why they lost in 6 years.
>The Empire was winning Endor until Vader killed Palpatine
Death Star II was lost the minute Lando flew into the incomplete station.

But nice try revisionist. Facts speak for themselves. Pro-Imperial players are either aspies or edgelords.

>scariff
>jakku

And it's also pretty tough to compare the Legends NR to the Empire. The Empire had 19 years of relative stability to consolidate, fortify, and build. The NR, meanwhile, was under siege and surrounded by powerful enemies and filled with saboteurs from its outset.

>If the TIEs stop the fighters/bombers then it's not a non-issue

That's the problem. There are rarely more than a token force of fighters deployed at any given time, if that. If a ship wants to launch fighters it'll need to lower it's particle shielding and leave itself vulnerable to attack. If it's on a routine patrol and suddenly a dozen X-Wings and a dozen Y-Wings show up it'll be fucked before the fighters in reserve can launch.

how do yall go about looking for a EoE/AoR/F&D group online? none of the niggas i know play it anymore and ive been wanting to give it a shot. is there a resource or something? east coast us if that helps

It feels like an eternity of Leia bumbling around and trying to figure out why exactly she's in the book, all while repressed furry fetishes make themselves known and Luke becomes an emoboi who gets trick'd because a dude reminds him of Yoda.

The villain is a dumbfuck with no motivation who genocides his own near-human people with a megaplague to prove his loyalty to Palpatine and become stronger (?????????) and Palpatine rolls with it by sending in what's described as Palpatine's Elite Galactic Troops called Starcrash (??????????????????????) and they just roll with it, but then the villain also loses his power because something and then he goes to space and becomes bedfellows with a jello cube with its own completely nonexistent motives so they can do something which requires the heroes to limpdickedly spring into action to combat the total nonthreat.

Also centaurs, larval werewolves, catpeople, and the ever-hateable Solo kids.

Offer to GM, its that simple. Tabletop games, especially online, are subject to supply and demand. Lots of players, few GM's.

I was thinking that they use spin gravity because the asteroid mines started out as a prison colony, and the planetary governor wanted to cheap out - which is why the asteroid miners and their descendants resent the Imperial governor.

just dont think i have a good enough grasp of the rules and havent GMd in this system before, let alone played it much at all. feel like it would be a real shitty idea lmao

Because Anita sarkeesian says the best thing you can do for women is believe them blindly.

Ships from the rough time period that SW is based on didn't have 3 dimentional movement.

Works well, only issue being that arti gravity is insanely commonplace in star wars to the point where even a small ship like the U-Wing has it - so it'd be something relatively simple/cheap for the miners to install themselves down the line.

That said, its your story.

That's why I said one-one engagement, or sohuld I say, conventional fight.

In an ambush, yeah, two dozen fighter-bombers will take it down, maybe lose some of their own, but they will win.

However, if an ISD and a rebel capital ship met on even terms, the ISD would win every single time. Imperial admirals and crew were, in general more skilled, ISDs had incredible firepower, armor, and range, and capital ship warfare was Imperial specialty.

Usually an ambush goes badly for the ambushee no matter who is doing it.

Well in the end, weigh your options. Groom your future players to GM for you, or forever look for games that fill up incredibly quickly.

this is mfw any of that shit happens. Man, I just wanna discuss the setting, the games, the books and vidya.

No way to know but to try, just wing it in the time honored GM tradition

but most importantly, pic related
