This could be really cool in an actual RPG if it were well represented mechanically. The system would have to be something crunchy and tactical enough to support it though. There'd need to be serious drawbacks to playing a landwhale, that couldn't be overcome by piling on more magic. Maybe have fat determine how many spells you can cast in a certain interval, separate from how powerful the spell is. That way there's a clear trade off (the more you can rely on your magic in a fight the less you can rely on your physical abilities) without making characters in the middle totally nonviable (A burly swordsman could have just enough spells to cast some buffs on himself without being physically hindered) and giving you diminishing returns on more fat (because you'll reach a point where you'll never run out of spell even if you're casting every turn)

Yes it easily could, however anyone with a lick of sense would point out why no one seemed to take this into account. There are beings who can warp reality walking around, both sides know this, presumably both sides have them, why on Earth would they field forces against each other in such situations? It would be far more logical for a cold war situation to develop, or the magic users themselves stopping and realizing the horrors they are inflicting on others. Pulling back and saying "why the fuck should we fight for you? We can just work together and conquer the world if we wanted." In my personal experience on both sides of the screen it creates too many questions and inconsistencies to reasonable keep things viable for an every day party to actually exsit. At most they would be mooks, unless there is a caster in the party and then at that point too much focus is shifted to the caster because of what they can do.

If you want an easy way of forcing wizards to be squishy geeks, this way is definitely better than "Armor literally blocks your magical energies."
