So I got a weird request. Can people post examples of really long CYOAs? Like specifically with a lot of choice categories rather then just a few choices but there's like 500 companions with page long backstories.

I kinda wanted to make one of these way back when the threads where more of a once in a while thing rather then a legit general. But it's been so long that any of my serious ideas feel a little shallow and redundant, plus have no real practice fucking around with photoshop/other image making tools to make something that looks nice. So, to kill some free time and practice the hell out of photoshop, I'm going to work on one who's main theme is "comically long". A not very serious or well balanced CYOA where the punchline is that it just keeps going and going. But to do that I kinda need an idea of what normal levels of very long look like.

I'm the guy that was working on that unfinished Hotline Miami cyoa from a few years back. I stopped working on it because paint.net is awful and it killed my motivation.
Also, I used to regularly post clipart pictures of genies asking for anons to do art genie galleries because I really like reading them.
I've never even submitted an image to any of the galleries.

I've seriously considered namefagging/tripfagging to post OC
I play CYOAs all the time but only post builds if I'm particularly motivated and/or feel like I have something really interesting to say. I'm sorry, authors who haven't gotten those (you)s.
I like waifus and comfy, but also adventure, hardship, and even a little despair -- when it comes to genre I'm a fence-sitter
I'm always a little detached from the escapism and despair rampant in this place because I actually have a solid marriage and good living conditions. The appeal for me isn't total self insertion but the same level of interest as I'd have towards any written media.
I want to make CYOA at least a little real by putting together my build for the Visual Novel CYOA in Ren'Py, but constant novelty and a lack of art assets saps my will to write the fucker or tinker with Ren'Py.
I don't actually mind most of our resident shitposters or "trigger" CYOAs. SDA and ZBG have made good stuff despite the shitposting/meltdown in the past. I missed most of the supposed culling shitstorm by the time I saw Monster Hunter and its build collecting autist and thought both were kind of cool, to the point of getting me to post my builds. Angel was kind of interesting to see when PPP+ dropped, even if slightly horrifying. Even Tok, where OK I dislike his attitude and most though not all of his body of work, I have to admit is kind of fun to have around and part of me hopes he keeps capering about and triggering people for my amusement.

Awww, I thought I would be able to see Angels face or at least her body figure. But all I got was a zoomend in picture, such a shame...

I somehow haven't improved in cyoa making skills in years.
I want to make cyoas but at the same time I feel like I "can't". Some mental barrier going on.
I don't read companions in cyoas.
I don't like "comfy" in the sense of that timestop cyoa. I don't see a point to imagining not doing anything.

I asked for help to learn how to photoshop and altough i suceeded and have a bunch of ideas for cool CYOAs i struggle in prying them out of my head so much that at this point i think i wasted the time of everyone

Did you mean pic related? 'Cos AFAIK, the point is having a separate safespace to do whatever the hell you like, which is definitely not the same as "not doing anything".

I like Italics cyoas and wish they would release new cyoas already + turn PPP+ into an actual visual novel or arpg already.. I confessed.

That's not how people use it, and you know that. Not that it matters how other people use it, I don't find the idea of imagining not doing anything "fun":

Launch notepad or something and just start typing out your ideas. One per text file if you really want or just a list of them in a text file.

Once you have your basic ideas typed out you can then go back and refine/add to them once you feel like it. To help expand on a section you decide what a particular cyoa may need in the way of sections.

Example: Fantasy cyoa where you are a magic sword. Hmm that'll need some basic sword looks perhaps and some powers and where/who forged you. Maybe being able to choose a sheathe will change your destiny and finally choose who wields you or if you're a dancing sword.

Once you have those sections you can flesh them out even more if you choose to but writing it down allows you to make some progress, which you can then look back on at any other time and see and perhaps get inspired by.

Some subset of people would, some subset of people wouldn't.
Both subsets contain a non-zero amount of people.
Over time, people might even drift from one subset to the other (and possibly back again).
Also why are you dissing a CYOA that'd enable your fantasy of being a good little slave to your perfect mistress?

Try using the same solution I found: make Excel sheets to quickly write ideas down for each CYOA. It's fast, easy and visually similar to actual CYOAs in their structure.
That way you can work on everything at once, when you actually go about making CYOAs in photoshop, you already have a base for it.

I kinda noticed that when I saw my post.

I'm not confident enough in my work to keep making things in my old style, even though I know nobody but me actually gives a shit. So I just make small things while trying to obscure my style, and release them like that.

Don't even know why I love this CYOA so much.

Personally, I only write general outlines and design how would option cells look like on some panels, also to calculate the length and width of each section. Expanding and writing entire options would be no problem either.
