I didn't really get into Critical Role because I couldn't face 400 + episodes but there was a disgusting amount of hype so I hopped onto the new season to see what the fuss was about and hopefully learn what a really good popular D&D game looks like.
>20 minutes of adverts and sponsorship I just skipped. Guess they gotta make nerdbucks.
>7 players...
>DM ex-posits a boat load of setting information that the players all mock and ignore.
>Starts in an Inn... ok
>players are speaking in IC that's good I guess
>Player introduces their character. Everybody randomly screeches at arbitary intervals. In jokes I guess?
>DM asks a player to make an utterly pointless perception roll.
>Everyone shits themselves
>Nat 20. Cachophany of screeches, clapping, table literally shaking, everyone shits themselves.
>Is this the big bang theory of rpgs?
>Am I missing something?
It's not grossly awful but it looks like any average D&D session with slightly better production values and players who are better at doing funny voices by profession. Should I bother grinding through this? Will I learn anything of value?
