In case whoever in last thread is still acting, of the two, resistance pairs better with melee. Melee provides your don't get hit ability. Resistance is great at nickle and diming damage you do take.

That said, having a passable dodge might save you when an unblockable attack rolls through.

Should a DB Veteran be able to defeat a young solar alone?

Sure unless the Solar is Dawn focused on kicking ass in person.

I'd hope that a Veteran should still at least force even a specialized Solar to flex appropriately. One of the things I'm really hoping for this edition.

What's the weirdest character you've seen someone try to play?

I agree. A Dawn putting in some real effort should be almost guaranteed to defeat an experienced Dragon-Blooded - but not quite guaranteed, because both luck and circumstances matter - but an over-confident Dawn trying to half-ass it should b in for a humbling.

Considering that cheap perfects and passive attack and defense boosts are mostly a thing of the past, I think they will be.

Honestly, even a blood ape seems like something a Solar can't just shrug off in this edition. I doubt a veteran DB will have much chance of beating even a moderately combat-focused Solar, but they should be a notable threat.

I've never seen anything particularly weird. The most out-there concept was probably a Raksha, but that was in 2E where you could do that.

Players I've known seemed more likely to have the opposite problem, that they weren't sure how to adjust to Exalted's power scale and ended up with standard D&D-style concepts.

What are the guidelines for determining attunement costs, if any?

Doesn't HGD block unblockable attacks?

I don't think there are any official guidelines, at least in 3e. I'd say just go with the default listed for equipment (5 for weapons and armor, give or take a point depending on the armor's category, and 15 for warstriders), with other artifacts usually requiring equal or less depending on their power, if they require attunement at all.

A Dawn with Supernal as a Melee is practically an Essence 5 combatant with a smaller mote pool.

Been on a few chats, so about 1000 literal Dr. Who's and furfaggotry as far as the eye can see. People having literal giantess-off's, where they'd just keep building newer, BIGGER characters to out-giantess one another.

It's not exciting. Just people trying as hard as possible to be The Doctor and using his picture (usually the Tennent version).

How do you do giantess? Presumably it just goes Regular character => character with Merit(Giant) => character with Legendary Size (somehow)?

They were doing Giant size and then just putting a few inches higher than the last giantess.

HGD has two functions: bleed successes off successful Initiative rolls for damage and make unblockable attacks blockable. It's not as comforting as SSE's straight out 1/combat ignore one attack (in case some guy whacks you with a 100 banked initiative killshot) but it's not limited by anything other than WP and it protects against uncountable damage too (which is fucking cool).
I also have a question concerning the Melee clash Charms; let's say I use Over and Under Technique on a decisive attack. I manage to Clash it with Fervent Blow (decisive clash) and Flashing Edge of Dawn (withering counterattack that can respond to any attack) at the same time, and both are successful. Does this mean I:
1) negate the decisive attack
2) damage his initiative pool and take the stolen initiative to:
3) add it to my own initiative pool for rolling a decisive attack on him?
In other words, I shut down his attack and smack him twice?

Could a solar raise life out of the wyld, like a raksha? They can make a specialist apparently, but what about a band of hobgoblins or beastmen? How would you stat that charm?

I think it's just a sorcerous working to make a battlegroup or something.

That used to be done with Wyld Shaping Technique. Back when it was wildly useful in 1E, and not the pile of nerfed, useless shit it's been since.

I took a look at WST, do you really need to re-invoke it several times to make anything substantial AND piss your XP away each time?

Exalted, unfortunately, does not allow the possibility of the giantess fetish. Of all the infinite weirdness of creation, any human taller than 9 feet is non-existent.

I do have high hopes due to design goals this edition not being about unbreachable walls between tiers.
Using E4-5 charms, and dumping the essence pools to do so, counts as flexing decently hard. (And I'm kinda hoping that doing that is dangerous against a Veteran DB who can use powerful charms to survive your onslaught then beat you with larger mote pools.)

As yes. So that's an option too, but HGD does have some issues, like being Perilous. But it's usually a good option to have and COULD make up for no dodge.

PoCB allows it to be used in Crash to some extent.

I've been reading the combat Charms recently, and Brawl's Reckless Fury Discard looks pretty terrible compared to Hail-Shattering Practice, but it does have the benefit of being able to benefit Evasion too, so it might combo well with Dodge Charms.

...I'd still take Hail-Shattering Practice any day, but at least that's something.

Effects of Hail-Shattering Practice are capped by Solar's Essence, while those of Reckless Fury Discard aren't. Also, Reckless Fury Discard has this bit:

Hail-Shattering Practice might still be better overall, but it doesn't seem overwelmingly better to me.

Yeah its total shit. I don't know what they're thinking, but a daiklave isn't worth 20 xp. With how many steps you need to make anything worthwhile, I think just the encounter roll, high mote cost, and 1wp should be the price of each WSP step.

It seems to me like they're begging you to abuse the system to awaken Evocations for free basically.

malfeas isn't. but whitewolf didn't communicate with the infernal book's writers so they used some 90s era whitewolf books as a reference. (and then whitewolf threw said writers under the bus when fans said things like lillun and raping gsp were stupid)

there are wyld mutations to turn a housecat panther sized, or build a howdah on hawkback. and it does this by accident.

You can MAKE a 20m tall human, with a working or maybe power questing, but you definitively can't be born one.

The consensus seems to be half. Halfcastes aren't really really stupid, they just need to be treated as any Godblooded in terms of power .

The era the artifact was made. If you forged an artifact in the current time of the setting it's era would be "Age of Sorrows".

High-Essence Evos can get absolutely terrifying. This is also the reason you can't get higher Circles of Sorcery with Occult Supernal.

If you do go down this route, remember not to let them buy Evocations with Solar XP.

It still bothers me how many of these feel like an afterthought. Some Abilities don't even have them at all.

I guess there's something to be said for concentrating more on lower-experience areas the players are more likely to reach, and for not making high-Essence Charms too much of an advantage so that non-Supernal and low-experience characters aren't too outclassed, but I still feel like there should be more up there.

This is true, though. Maybe Solars are meant to look outward to reach the greatest heights of power or something, but I wonder if this is a mark of Vance's approach to mechanics rather than an intentional design choice, since he wrote the corebook's sorcery and the new artifact book.

Reckless Fury Discard only works with 1s, while Hail-Shattering Practice works with 1s and 2s, so the former ignoring effects that reroll 1s seems more like a way to narrow the gap than an actual benefit.

I forgot that Hail-Shattering Practice was capped by Essence, though. Good point. Brawl's defensive ability doesn't look as good as Melee's, but maybe the options there aren't bad, and it's something a character could rely on when they don't want to spare the experience to invest in Dodge or Resistance yet.

The female grows in height and mass to roughly 40ft tall and is instilled with a Major Tie of irrepressible lust for the person attuned to the wand, and a Major Principle of "I fucking hate giant robots".

If used in battle this effect lasts one scene, otherwise it lasts 1 day. Either way once the evocation ends, the woman falls to the ground and explodes spectacularly.

Say you take Cosmic Transcendance of (Virtue) in 2E so that all your Conviction dice convert to auto successes and you take Nightmare Fugue Vigilance so that you take a -1 internal penalty on willpower recovery rolls after sleeping. Does that mean you always get 4 temporary willpower back after sleeping or is there a mechanical interaction I'm missing?

I've never played with infernals before. We'll be using 2e because 2.5 doesn't work with infernals.
What if any key competencies are they missing, and do you know of any good homebrew charms or even whole yozi trees that would plug them you could link?

Their social requires you to either blind yourself with Ebon Dragon to access the rest of his charms or bellow orders like you're autistic and never learned about inside voice with Malfeas.

Sounds about right. Mind, that's a lot of charms from two different trees, and you'd need Conviction 5.

There are other ways of reading that passage besides them being raped, but after that Lillun thing, that is where the mind goes immediately. I sort of picture my guy carrying ores and messages around Ligier's forge, sweeping the floors of Amalion, training with Suntarankal, and so on.

There's also the absolute hierarchy with Swlihn, but yeah, Infernal social is pretty rough.

Both charms are two deep in their trees so the only demanding requirement is the Conviction 5. If you were going to make Conviction your flawed virtue anyway it's totally worth it in my opinion, as you can now spend 1wp to get 5 auto successes that don't count towards the dice cap and the Conviction helps regen the willpower. I love Infernals.

Do infernals even have a flawed virtue? Iirc it gets replaced with the urge and I think there was something about abyssic plates when your temporary willpower is below 4?

I like this version much better than the one in their corebook. it fits better with the rest of them
although this one now feels like the odd one out, unless that flame is only there when the mark would be glowing brightly(4-7) and not when it's merely visible (at 1-3), but nobody ever draws it as just an eye
