So generally I just think of something that would be cool then roll with it.

Rolled 4, 2, 4 = 10 (3d20)

Monk

Your players do not give a modicum of shit about worldbuilding, just take a bunch of shit you think is cool and run it.

Have a fairly concise idea about what you want your setting to be.
Make it for the sake of making it, do not go out of your way to try and be original for originality sake.
Draw inspiration from many sources. This is vital for any fiction.
Maintain internal consistency.

Rolled 11 + 3 (1d12 + 3)

don't ask me, I'm just a player

start by making a list of the world assumptions the system your using makes, basically just list all the things which need to exist for all the players' possible character options to be possible.

You take Forgotten Realms and do opposite of that.

I never DM'd because I'm lonely nerd. Though I was asking in general.

newfag here; how to roll?

wizards.com/dnd/dice/dice.htm

take a lot of zolpidem or psychs until you find the core ideas you are going to build it around
then spend a year thinking about it, because your first ideas on how to make it work are going to be fucked and unworkable
once you've rebuilt it enough times that it stops falling apart when you think about it then I guess you could start writing it down or something, but the superior option is just keeping it in your head for another decade until you get distracted by a new idea and forget about it

why are all the companions girls

danke

Rolled 10 (1d12)

>Wanting to travel out into the wilderness, face peril, sleep under the stars and develop close emotional bonds....with men

Rolled 13, 18, 17 = 48 (3d20)

>newfag here; how to roll?
Since we're never getting a better sticky, you put this exact command in the Options field with your next post:

dice+1d12

Rolled 2 (1d12)

Please be a ranger

Rolled 8, 10, 17 = 35 (3d20)

Oh sweet. I am “so lucky”!

I wanna bard, a sage, and a ninja.

The most important thing is to have sources of conflicts the players can get involved with. I've seen so many settings that meticulously detail every event in the past thousands of years but have nothing for players to do in the present.

Wow

Write the story first and then fill the setting in around it.

ideally id like to be the fighter with necro girl, succubus, and sage girl

Rolled 6 (1d12)

Rolled 11 (1d12)

This is absolutely the wrong way to go about making a cooperative storytelling game. Instead of writing a novel to railroad your players along, create a bunch of lego pieces that you and the players can build stories out of together.

Rolled 16, 2, 13 = 31 (3d20)

Thanks, I somehow managed to fuck that up and it didn't work last time I tried. Am brainlet.

if a good setting means one that the players like and have interest in, have the setting serve the story. make it up as you need to, and dont make an entire world and then force your players into it. partly because its gonna hurt you since you have a particular idea of the world, and partly because its easier. think of it as a theater stage, you only need props for the scene. no audience cares about noble families outside of capulet and montague in romeo & juliet, its not relevant to the story

Never start a thread with an image people will be more interested in than the topic.

>paladin with a paladin waifu
sweet

Rolled 1 (1d12)

Don't worry about making good settings, if you hesitate because you don't know how to make a setting "good" then you will probably not end up making anything at all and nothing is worse than something bad. Make settings you want to make, keep making them and then you will figure out how you want to improve.

Also hope I get a good roll.

Rolled 6, 15, 10 = 31 (3d20)

>Fighter
I guess that's fine

>boobie witch
>drow
>cute sage
Now that's more like it

Rolled 6 (1d12)

Give me something fun for a change.

Rolled 20, 8, 9 = 37 (3d20)

Monk is pretty much the opposite of fun.

Nice strawman.

Rolled 20, 68 = 88 (2d120)

>Traveling with a thirsty succubus and bard
>as a monk
>with a monk companion who won't hesitate to remind you that fucking your companions isn't very proper for a monk

Rolled 9 (1d12)

Nice

Rolled 1 + 3 (1d12 + 3)

Rolled 3, 13, 1 = 17 (3d20)

I shall remind thee of myths and legends of grand adventurers, namely myself. Who shall accompany me?

Rolled 9 (1d12)

>No female bards
>No duets as the journey goes on
>No one as great as you

Atleast the ranger is cute

Rolled 20, 9, 12 = 41 (3d20)

so I'm a bard, let's see what companions I get

succubus, monk girl & merchant girl

so a bard and harem, pretty good

Your face is the opposite of fun.

OP never cared about the topic

Whelp, off to...

>...

...

Rolled 8 (1d12)

just here to roll

Rolled 11, 1, 14 = 26 (3d20)

sorcerer lv: 1; HP :4

pic related

Steal. Steal like you've never stolen before and make changes to the things you don't like or think can be better and improv the rest. Find a concept you like and just run wild with it. Don't try to turn every fantasy/sci-fi trope on its head just to feel like you're being original because you're really not and it's just pretentious. Ask your players what they like and stick it in there if it fits. Just do whatever the fuck you wan't and don't worry about it because at the end of the day your players will only interact with a small portion of the world.

Rolled 3 (1d12)

Alright I will try this

Up and at 'em!

Rolled 1 (1d3)

Rolling for number of traveling companions

Rolled 11 (1d20)

So be it

Rolled 4 (1d12)

Well depends on which setting we are talking about. In general though, try to avoid using cheesy cheap tropes and don't make the story lack action nor content.

>a lot of redundant options
>no cleric loli
what the fuck is this shit

For fantasy, using the traditional race aren't necessarily bad, but it doesn't hurt to add some new ones.

Rolled 8, 7, 3 = 18 (3d20)

Crap put in the dice wrong. Don't have too much experience with playing fantasy though. Cyberpunk is more interesting to me, and adding fantasy to it doesn't hurt. Shadowrun sort of comes to mind.

Rolled 11 (1d12)

Put a good emphasis on world building but not so much it becomes monotonous. However if you do that, remember Chekov's gun.

Rolled 3 (1d12)

worse yet
>no cleric shota

Rolled 19, 11, 7 = 37 (3d20)

Rolled 10 (1d12)

Rolled 16, 20, 3 = 39 (3d20)

For world building, you don't necessarily have to tell the players directly, but rather you can have the NPC do it for you.

Say for example you enter a kingdom, you can have people discussing the current events. Some of it can be unimportant minor stuff, others can be major events happening at that moment. Don't make it too out of place though, like a group of paladins worshiping the devil or something.

Rolled 18, 9, 11 = 38 (3d20)

Also OP’s question will get no real answer with the legions of people rolling. Kek.

>Barbarian joined by two princesses and a monk.

To get those clerics you need to roll your face across your keyboard.

>he thinks I won't do it

ewcs gfvtchbnvtgfcsvfgbhngvfsdewac gf6vhbnlpo

>Cleric
>Necromancer, Monk Girl, Succubus
Taking inspiration from other settings is a good place to start.

How'd I do

What the FUCK is that roll?

Looks like 25d9999999999999999999999.

did you make these?

Rolled 3 (1d12)

impressive

Rolled 17, 20, 18 = 55 (3d20)

Sweet, Cleric.

Cleric with a Ninja Girl, Princess Bulge and Succubus. I can dig that, and so can the Princess.

Rolled 6 (1d12)

Ok

Rolled 12, 9, 10 = 31 (3d20)

And lads

Congratulations user, you found the treasure! It turns out the cleric lolishota was within you the whole time

Rolled 10 (1d12)

>did you make these?
Yeah, I rolled Cleric, Fighter Girl, Princess(actual), and Mermaid.

Might do another batch

Thanks!

Rolled 11, 4, 8 = 23 (3d20)

>goblet with no arms
how do they compete?

Rolled 15 (1d20)

Rerolling the princess

...

Rolled 7 + 3 (1d12 + 3)

To make a setting, never start it with an image that's more interesting than the topic.

Apparently I'm retarded
That's great for being a mage

Rolled 11, 8, 4 = 23 (3d20)

FUCK

Rolled 9 + 1 (1d12 + 1)

Rolled 9 (1d12)

Rolled 22, 23, 6, 25, 25, 3, 16, 23, 5, 20, 18, 24, 25, 23, 5, 17 = 280 (16d25)

Rolled 11 (1d12)

Rolled 3, 15, 20 = 38 (3d20)

So I'm a paladin who hangs around with a Drow priestess and a Succubus ?

Guys, i think I'm not a very good paladin.

Rolled 11 (1d12)

Time for...
