Any other DMs just give every baddie max hp?

I told my DM I'd like to rebuild my Nature Cleric as a Spore Druid, fits the flavor of my swamp dwelling lizardman better. He agrees its better flavor, but wants to nerf Spore Druid. What do you guys think of his suggestions?

>That Halo of Spores is a Reaction is so much action economy cheese. I can't find any class abilities that allow a character to use their Reaction every round to do direct damage. There aren't even any Bonus Action cantrips that do damage.
>It seems like Halo of Spores should require a ranged attack roll. As-is HoS is essentially a Magic Missile with 30' range instead of 120', but unlimited use and Reaction rather than Action.
If you boost your damage with Wild Shape (and a Spore Druid should, every combat) Spreading >Spores is essentially an at-will Cloudkill that doesn't allow a save, affects creatures that don't breathe, and can be cast as a Bonus Action instead of an Action. A Spore Druid would get it at the same level a Wizard would get Cloudkill, making the Spore Druid immediately better at AoE damage than the Wizard--this seems to interfere with game balance, since the druid now has healing and better damage. Not to mention that nobody gets at-will 5th level spells as class abilities at any level, much less 10th level.
>We'd have to nerf these class abilities pretty hard to be in line with the classes in the PHB

Is he right? How would you alter Spore Druid?

Mearls might not be based, but he seems like an alright guy to me.

I want to summon demons and devils as a conjuration wizard - should I multi-class fiend warlock to kind of rationalize it?

If you want too? Summoning demons is pretty standard wizard shit. The spells are kind of insane though, I like the flavor of losing control over them, but how will the party feel about constantly having to fight off your summons?

I don't get it. He says this but woman usually prefer 3.xx/pf due to exactly tailor there character to what they want as opposed to the limited choice of 5e.

Aka, what I'm saying is Mearls is an idiot compared to the pf creators.

Don't even bother. You can already minor conjuration up the supposedly 'evil' spell components in a non-evil way. You're just doing standard wizard shit.

I mostly play clerics since I like buffing and healing my friendos.

What other class should I try next time? I looked through the book and Bard seems like a good choice for doing this.

bard is what you're looking for then. paladin is also a decent choice once you get to a high enough level to get auras, most of the time you'll be smiting though

Paladin. Your aura buffs your nearby friends (Ancients is AMAZING), you get LoH to keep your fellow martials in the fight, you get enough spell slots that you can buff allies and yourself while also SMITING your foes.

That this is an issue 'within D&D' is bizarre, or that a 'within D&D' even exists is bizarre. How could any of this matter beyond your gaming table? I'd guess most people play with like-minded people. I'm cool with girls at my table, but if other groups don't want them, it doesn't affect me.

The push for a D&D community beyond a play table is irrelevant. Fuck podcasts, fuck twitch, fuck twitter, fuck conventions. It's all a fucking distraction. Go play with friends.

Divine Soul for an option after Bard or Dreams druid

Also gonna say ancients paladin. Right now I'm an ancients paladin with a holy avenger. Advantage on spells and magical effects, and resistance to damage from spells and magical effects.

>Evil wizard today cast circle of death on us, rolled 44 for damage.
>Everyone saved, because advantage and paladin.
>22 damage + resistance
>11 damage total. gg wizard

It's odd, I was talking shop with another DM and he said I put DC's for skill checks way too low. I pointed out the guidelines in the dmg for where skill checks should be at. He started saying "Legendary and mythic should be DC 40 stuff, not DC 30 and 35. You don't understand how easy it is to pump rolls high in 5e."

The thing is, this is the same guy who says low level characters can't take on anything really hard and that wizards are super overpowered in his games.

Is it normal to run DC's higher than what the dmg recommend? I don't see much of a reason to.

You don't need to multi-class into warlock to be able to summon demons as a wizard, because in D&D, a wizard can do any and every magic-related thing regardless of how the caster classes should be ordered according to their flavor and backgrounds. Because fuck you, that's why!

I modify DCs to fit the instant in which I find myself. Are they trying to get into the locked chest of the BBEG? Well, I'm gonna need a DC30 lockpick check, a DC35 check for a mechanical trap and a DC40 Arcana check to recognize the teleportation circle which sends the chest somewhere safe if the BBEG doesn't open it.

Are you trying to open a door with a fantastic lock? DC30.

How can I build an EK as a tank?

Who /chadman5eg/ here?

Apart from Stealth checks that get unreasonably inflated with the use of Pass Without Trace, DMG guidelines are fine. However, the counterbalance part is that Stealth DC is set by opposing Wisdom (Perception) Checks, and therefore don't usually exactly correspond to guidelines.

captcha: "8800 Nokia" brings me back to 2009

Are you talking about the DC rules on pg 238 of DMG? That's actually a really good metric to use. The other DM is silly. Doing something considered nearly impossible as a high level PC should be more likely, not less likely.

Of course, you may still have a rogue with stealth expertise and pass without a trace roll a nat 20 and end up with a 47 on a stealth check, but is that really a problem?

>checking to see if I did math right.
>20+5+12+10=47?

Yeah he kept bringing up it being a problem that "35 is around where physics breaking begins" 5e is fairly high fantasy ime if you use rules as written. He was saying I throw too much at players too but I think increasing DC's would hard nerf anyone who rolls dice to do things in the game.

I unironically like shadman, I'm fucked up?

Basing the viability of a class off of the acquisition of a powerful, very rare magic item is retarded, user.

Ask him to show you where its written that physics starts breaking when a roll is above a 35. Someone gets a 36 on their smithing roll? Its a really fucking good weapon, one of the best ever made. No breakage involved.

I think this shit just gets blown out of proportion. One asshat has a bad day and says some shit to a grill, and suddenly the whole fucking D&D community has a muhsoggyknee problem. You never hear about the hundreds of thousands of groups that are mixed gender and get along just fucking peachy. Probably because you can't leverage faux outrage and push your personal agenda over it.

No multiclass necessary, wizard is already all of the casters combined into one, except clerics, but Theurge is a thing that exists now...

In short, banning wizards entirely is the best option for the health of the game.

> but woman usually prefer 3.xx/pf due to exactly tailor there character to what they want as opposed to the limited choice of 5e.
>but woman

Everyone relax, the woman expert is on the case.

Yes, and you're also a retard for replying to bait that has no place in the thread.

>ban wizards

but why?

Still viable without it - but its every paladin's dream to have one. And every DMs duty to put out that carrot on a stick :)

Unless you plan on ending your campaign before 6th level spell slots become available, they get fucking ridiculous faster than any other class.

I admire the talent, hard work, and passion it takes to be as successful as he is, and try to hide my burning seething envy that I can't draw my own fetishes nearly as well.

Everyone's fucked up. Doesn't mean everyone needs to openly flaunt their fetish.

The example I gave was "At 35, you can do beyond human limits things. Stuff like running up a landslide. At 40, it gets into anime bullshit territory. A 30 is among the best in our world level." I compared it to "Batman rolls 35's and 40's on athletics."

Then he said I'm too easy and need to set "human limit" at more like 45 because of how easy it is to get high bonuses.

>wizard is already all of the casters combined into one, except clerics, but Theurge is a thing that exists now...
>HURPADURP, WHY BAN WIZARDS?!"

Huh... maybe because they're literally every caster combined into one with way more options and versatility than any other caster in the game and a metric asston more spells known?

Look, every other caster in the game is thematic and has a niche, which is a GOOD THING in a team-based game because it encourages cooperation to cover eachother's weaknesses and amplify eachother's strength. Wizards are just a collection of fucking codes that lets them bypass actually playing the game and makes their party useless beyond being HP sponges. Fuck wizards. Ban them from your game. Give Warlocks and Sorcerers Intelligence-based casting options.

At low levels...
A bard flinging inspiration, a cleric giving guidance, a bard/rogue with expertise in the skill and a +3 mod for the skill...
It gives 1d20+7+1d6+1d4
At level 5 and the second tier it's more like 1d20+10+1d8+1d4
Even then with all this bullshitting and PCs being specialized for it DC 40 is impossible.
That DM just wants to railroad shit and have things the players can't achieve.

You can't. You play cavalier instead.
Well, I guess you can grab sentinel and try to stop one enemy every round, especially if you get warcaster and booming blade, though sentinel stops booming blade's secondary effect.

>Having near-mythic devices to protect a chest
>When a simple wizard spell could just summon and put away that chest as the BBEG pleases

If you're going to put a chest around that the players can interact with, at least make it so the players can interact with it beyond getting cucked.

shadbase.com/non-porn-section/

For (you) user.

>no shadman link
I see you learned your lesson. Now you can have threads.

Honestly if someone makes the effort and dedicates the resources to getting a reliable 30+ check then I don't see why it's wrong to just let them succeed at it a lot. If they try to break anything I can just call the task impossible and then they don't even get to roll so they could have +100 for all I care.

Good luck, you fucking autist.

Plate Armor, Dueling Fight Style, Shield. Have the Cleric cast Shield of Faith on you. Keep your spell slots open for Protection from Energy and throw out Shields to keep yourself safe. When possible, buy Ring/Cloak of Protection +1/2/3 and try to get a Ring of Spell Storing to just stuff nothing but Shield spells into.

If you dip into another class, go Abjuration wizard for more and bigger spell slots to use abjuration spells with to bulk up the ward you get.

EK5/Abjuration Wizard15 gives you a shit-ton of spell slots. Take Tough to offset the lower hit die and HAM for DR.

Defense Fighting Style. Sorry. I just got done playing KOTOR.

His example was how easy it is to get a +10 in a skill and he said I set it too low "when the majority of DC's are 15-25" If someone rolls over 30, I don't see what's wrong with letting them do some anime bullshit.

>no shadman link
Check the post above yours user :^)

Also check OP again for extra content for your 5e game :^)

Poison damage is garbage. I think it's fine.

Anyhow, what do you guys hope for/expect for the next UA?

What even prompted this? Why is a developer of a major game posting unsolicited comments on gender relations on twitter? Why is he insisting that anyone who enjoys rules complexity hates women?

The bottom line is as PCs grow in power, so too does their likelihood to succeed. I don't see the problem with that.

we all agree shit DM is shit

can we move on?

See you in three days after you get banned for advertising again. But hey, at least you're keeping the OP on topic.

>tfw enemy caster twied to cast circle of death twice
>Counterspelled it both times
Even better than 11 damage

It's Mearls, don't try to think about it logically.

I think it was due to the neckbeard backlash over Kate Welch's hire where armchair autists were questioning Wizards' decision and said it was only possible because of Affirmitive Action or she was well connected through Acq Inc or that her hire was a waste.

>Poison damage is garbage. I think it's fine.
Yeah, my DM seems to think it's too powerful. I agree that poison damage is bad, and it probably isn't too OP, but I agree with my DM that the reaction/bonus action nonsense of the class is poorly written.

Valor Bard is a good way to go. You're incentivized to use BI on your teammates as opposed to saving it for Cutting Words, you get heal and a good selection of buffs and debuffs. You get medium armor and shields, and EA so you can be in the thick of it with your friendos.

>It's funny how the people who get autistic about knowing rules and intensive lore and shit don't like the sorts of people who usually don't get as autistic about the rules and lore
What a coincidence!

user, you do realise that even after I stopped putting shad in the OP people still ignored my threads due to the dandwiki link.

Now your all posting in it, which helps to show that /5eg/ has no standards unlike /pfg/ :^)

>its a "the wizard just dances around and blurs" episode

I'm getting real tired of this shit. Whats the best way to deal with it?

I'm not familiar with her, and I don't think armchair people really have much business commenting on someone's qualifications to be hired, but you'd think a lead dev would have the sense not to go around saying things like:
>lol the only reason you don't like this is cuz you hate women :^)

There's no need to be autistic.

How do you make a tank in this game anyway?

What subclasses and feats are best?

Off the top of my head?
>Dispel magic
>Counterspell

These fans do tend to hate women. Probably because they can't get with them.

Lotta health, lotta AC, Lotta avoidance, "tank" is just a broad term for Someone Who Is Hard To Kill And Attracts Attacks

Creatures who don't rely on sight. Enemy casters with Dispel Magic. AOEs and spells that require saves instead of attack rolls.

Come on user, this isn't hard.

Also ban wizards like says

Variant Human EK wearing full-plate and shield, Defense fighting style, Shield spell, 2 levels of War Wizard for when you run out of slots, Magic Initiate feat for Shield of Faith. Total AC of 23 without reactions, 25/28 with reactions. Goes way higher if you get magical items: +3 Shield, +3 Armor, Cloak of Protection, Ring of Protection get you to max total of 36.

>wizard starts doing this
>BBEG finds out that the wizard is a big pain for his underlings
>splurges on a wand of counterspells and sets a trap for the party
>party has to scramble to save the wizard because the BBEG is specifically targeting them over all the trouble
>wizard tries to Dimension Door, Counterspell
>wizard tries to Blur, Counterspell
>wizard tries to do anything, Counterspell
>all while hidden archers plink away at him and the BBEG bitches at him for being such a pain in the ass

The wizard survived that encounter and got PTSD from getting downed, picked up, downed, picked up, downed, nearly dying, getting picked up again and then getting downed before the BBEG had to flee. The rest of the party was freaking the fuck out and tried to bitch until I pointed out that the wizard is hands down the most dangerous party member. Of course, the BBEG is going to do whatever he has to to KILL him.

Better question, what stops the GM from just pushing past all the tanks and killing the mage?

Cast level 1 magic missile.
The wizard now makes 3 saves against losing concentration on blur.

In any case usually the wizard can't be sure combat is going to occur for sure until combat actually starts, it then takes an action to use and then that's a level 2 spell slot they're not using.
And since they're using their concentration it's very unlikely you actually have any reason to attack the wizard anyawy, especially since they have the lowest damage. Just ignore the fucking wizard.
By ignoring the wizard, their spell slot has been entirely fucking wasted. They could have just hid in the corner instead of casting blur.

Ancestral guardians barbarian, cavalier fighter, sentinel feat.
Shieldmaster knocking enemies prone or slowing+Repelling EB warlock.
Good reaction attcaks also help, such as a rogue's sneak attack or warcaster wiith booming blade.

What exactly is 'pulp' about Eberron?

The tank? Casters killing it first?
Alternatively, nothing, because if a DM wants to kill a player character, they can, whenever.

>someone's qualifications to be hired,
Personally I'm skeptical of her because I can't find any qualifications of hers. I found some shitty youtube videos of hers about vidya that I skimmed through, but I couldn't find any design experience she had that wasn't art design. To be fair, I've heard she's a player or something on C-Team or whatever and I've never watched it, but I still don't see how being a player makes you good at professional design - proof of that sentiment can be found in nearly any homebrew posted in these threads.
I won't be happy about the hire unless she reigns in Crawford and Mearls. Until then I'll assume the same crappy scenario that I would assume if it was a male hire; it's just some barely related name to gain a little PR who will either just act like a yes man or throd out garbage UAs because the big two are lazy shits who don't want to make as many.

Your Dm is wrong.
The only thing wrong with it is the weakness of the zombifying ability. Where it has a super rare trigger, and the zombies die from a pebble to the leg.
A fix I've seen floating around is that their HP scales like yours, 3hp per druid level. And the trigger to create them is any enemy you have killed or attacked in melee.
Nerfing spores is retarded.
A classic knee jerky reaction.

You are terribad DM, and I feel for your poor group.

So I'm in the process of creating a one-shot dungeon that takes place in an underground cathedral inhabited by a Cthluhu-ish cult. The cave leading to the cathedral is only accessible by boat or swimming.

Which diety would fit best for this? I'm not too familiar with the D&D gods/lesser gods and want it to sound legit.

Umberlee? She's a seagoddess who has fishmonster servants.

The Bitch Queen, always.

Oh fuck, that's perfect. Thanks anons

Any advice on custom backgrounds and creative combos?

Should I go with both Warcaster + Booming Blade and Sentinel, or pick one or the other since they kinda cancel each other out?

Eh. Don't bother with Sentinel then, since Booming Blade is kind of like "alright pal, if you move you get fucked up."

Maybe the BBEG can't do magic and hired a magician to install the spell.

>and I want a teleportation circle in case anybody tries to open it besides me
>well you know, you could always use Secret Chest, it's a lot easier-
>Do I tell you how to do your job? Cast the goddamn spell!

alternately

>and I want secret chest on this one right here
>oh, no can do. Never learned that spell.
>what? Well get me a wizard who can!
>Yeah, see, you're gonna have to talk to my union supervisor about that. There's some pretty big cases right now regarding wrongful termination and spell slot descrimination
>Spell slot descrimina- alright, alright, fine. What CAN you cast?
>Teleportation circle.
>Teleportation circle?! That's a whole slot up!
>Yup. We'll have to bump you up to the deluxe service package.

You mean like Wizards with prostitution backgrounds in your pic related?

Level 20 Tarrasque fight oneshot coming next week, far into the future.

What do I make for a character?

But then again, you could always take Sentinel so that you can take an OA even if they disengage. Up to you.

Any character that can teleport away.

Actual new thread, do not post in Swiss nazi threads, do not reply to Swiss nazi posts.

We're over an hour and almost 90 posts in. Shut the fuck up, user.

wut?

Fuck off shad.

The Heavy Armor Master feat is great at reducing damage from multiple attacks, and adds up a ton in the long run.

What the goddamn fuck is wrong with you.

but nobody is talking about shad, nigga you are getting paranoid

@57556655
You are fucking insufferable you know that?

If it's going to be non-homebrew Tarrasque and you want to ruin things for everyone, roll an archer that can fly.

You're free to do what you want.
Choose one feature, two skills, chose two languages or tool proficiencies, pick a equipment kit or create one with your DM, buy your gear and pick the associated traits, bonds, ideals and flaws.

Sentinel is best for that, but choke points, opportunity attacks in general, and just grabbing enemies off of mages work too.

This thread was made by some autist who's butthurt about pic related. He used to put a link to porn in the OP but he got banned too many times so now he just puts dandwiki because it's poor quality. See It's very sad and most of us are trying to ignore him.

>poison damage
>3 or 6 damage to one creature
That it's a Reaction is actually a little bit of bullshit, but a bonus action is probably appropriate.
