modern is gay

u r gay

weak bait

I'm wanting to get into Modern particularly with a control deck. Why is Jeskai better than Esper? Jeskai gets Bolt, but Esper has Push, Esper Charms and Lingering Souls.

>post the truth
>bait

>Why is esper bad?
Lol kiddo learn modern first

Jeskai has a more proactive gameplan.

I'm at work, how's the finals going?

See OP's pic.

...

gerry taking a bullet for the modern community desu

LANTERNBROS WW@

3-0 Lantern wins with Tezz Agent of Bolas ultimate

Lantern wins the finals...

This senpai. He should have made Salvato deck him every game to maximize the salt

apology for poor english

when were you when lantern win pt?

i was sat at home eating elemental tokens when lsv ring

‘lantern is win’

‘no’

Do they have internet at special education?

What is banworthy in lantern control?
The Stirrings?
The Codex?
The Lantern?

Nothing. People will need to start preparing more artifact hate if it becomes popular.

Bridge bruh bruh...

8th edition :^)

Stirrings to fuck Tron at the same time. Banning Codex Shredder would be laughable.

I think the problem with Bridge is the lack of cards like 'target player draws X cards', instead of new design philosophy of only the caster drawing cards.

>dredge gets a ban because of it requires players to dedicate sideboard slots for it.
>but affinity, Latern and burn do the same but aren't touched.

Fuck this life. I want out.

>deck wins one event
>what needs banning?
bruh

this is essentially how second sunrise got banned

Don't underestimate a pro tour. It's a large and very high skilled environment.

You need to get in the mind of a good and cucked memedern player, for this I recommend:
1. Become a full on socialist marxist
2. Eat high quantities of soy
3. Sniff tranny holes
4. Lobotomize yourself so your IQ drops enough for you to enjoy memedern

ARGENTINA IS WHITE

No. Second sunrise was banned because single turns that can last for 10+ minutes cause logistical problems at tournaments.

>Guy is actually white
>But a manlet

kek

>Lantern is notorious for taking forever to win a game and only doesn't go to time because of the grace of your opponent
Enjoy the banning, Lanternfag.

I don't play Lantern, but the difference is pretty obvious. A single turn in Lantern does not take long, so after time is called and you go to turns the game finishes promptly. It didn't work that way with Eggs.

>A single turn in Lantern does not take long
Neither did a single turn in Miracles.

Hello newfag

Wotc didn't agree.

Color me surprise.

>tips fedora

Yes, they did. The apparent problem with Miracles wasn't that its turns took too long, it was that it made games go to time too much unless their opponent was willing to concede. Lantern is doing the exact same thing.

>1.9% of the Modern PT
>banworthy
Okay

No, they didn't.

"In Legacy, Miracles—a deck that is focused on combining Counterbalance and Sensei's Divining Top to control what opponents can or (mostly) cannot resolve—has been the best deck in the format for some time. We were hopeful that this would change over time, but it has not. That alone is not necessarily enough to move to ban a card from the deck, but Sensei's Divining Top comes with its own host of issues that center around the timely conclusion of matches in a tournament setting. The necessity of repeated Top activations to play the card slows down match play and leads to tournament delays. Coupled with the power of the Miracles deck, this is reason enough for us to take action on Top. Therefore, Sensei's Divining Top is banned in Legacy."

Argentina's whiteness depends heavily on how white you consider Italy.

There, lantern problem solved
Boy that was hard to figure out

Absolutely nothing in that quote says that a single turn was taking too long. To the contrary, what you posted sides with me in that "slows down match play" and "tournament delays" implies that it was making rounds go to time. Likewise, Lantern makes rounds go to time because of just how slow a deck it is.

*thoughtseizes your enchantment on T1*

>They mill it away

>Your library is already smaller than theirs
>You can't attack through their Bridge
>You mill out

We didn't read the same quote then.

Activating Top once per turn does not make that turn last a crazy amount of time. It's pretty easy to look at the new card, put it on top, and leave your 1+2 mana cards on top for the lock.

Pro tip guys, lantern takes forever to beat you, so your answer to them can take forever as well and it's fine.

>blood moon liliana ult
>mogis god of slaughter
>grim lavamancer

4 copies maindeck

For experienced players it doesn't. The problem is inexperienced players.

Hi.

Did you even read the post you're responding to? He said Second Sunrise made turns take 10 minutes, which causes problems when games go to time. The extra turns taking another 10+ minutes was the problem, not going to time every round. Even if lantern goes to time, the turns take 5 seconds. It doesn't take long to play 1 card, pass, and mill on your opponent's end step.

>have in opening hand
>thoughtseize or IoK it away.

>want to draw it later in the game
>mill rocks savagely rape you.

It's a reason why it won this tournament. You think he didn't play against stony in the swiss? Fucking retard.

...and Spain.
Hell, my great grandpa came from Romania, that ain't good.

Literal ROMA in the thread.

[exiles your shit]

Did modern ban ancient grudge or some shit?

See

Deck that can prevent you from drawing the card you need > The card you need

No.

Shut the fuck up catmix. DnT fucking sucks and it it pains me because I love the archetype.

Fun fact: Grudge works from the graveyard, so Lantern must have the exile rock or welding jar.

cage also

Or the Grafdigger's Cage they have in the mainboard combined with the 4 copies of Whir.

Did you watch the fucking stream? Grudge did absolutely nothing to lantern.

>grudge didn't work in this match, therefore it doesn't work
ayy lmao

It didn't work in the entirety of the top 8. Fucking shit lord. Cage, mill rocks and had disruption ensures that it will never get off.

>Everyone going on about how lantern is unbeatable

Lantern player here.
News flash: Silver bullet answers aren't that good against lantern. Grudge, Stony, Kataki, etc. Good when resolved, but that's the problem. Early on, you'll eat discard spells. Later on, you'll get hit by mill rocks that diminish your draw quality. Especially after Whir of Invention, now that we can just fetch any answer we need.

To attack lantern, you have to understand HOW it's attacking you. It's not locking you out with Bridge or Orb or anything really, it KNOWS you have answers, it attacks your ability to draw answers by lowering your draw quality.

So how do you combat that? Cantrips, instant speed card draw, digging deeper, and above all else, redundancy. This is why decks like Green Tron is almost an auto-scoop for lantern, you literally cannot beat Chromatic Sphere. Burn is also annoying, you simply can't mill away EVERY lightning bolt and by turn 3/4 when you get your orb out you're already dead. Storm isn't great either, but they do get stopped completely by orb or cage. Still, possibility of a win before you can orb is very real, and Lantern simply can't do anything to stop the engine - Sometimes Storm just wins without Past in flames with a critical mass of cantrips.

Jeskai tempo is also a bad matchup, for those reasons, as are decks like GDS to some extent. In other words, redundant, linear decks beat lantern, but lantern eats control and reactive toolbox strategies, especially things like permission.

You want to know the real reason that Lantern won this PT? Good metagame call and Human dominance. Humans are not fast enough to kill lantern early, not redundant enough to get past the mill, and have few answers. that counter Humans are also terrible matchups against Lantern. If lantern becomes popular, Gx Tron will just start eating it for breakfast.

Salvato isn't even a great player, he made constant mistakes throughout, compared to someone like Kannister or SBlack, and even admitted he's a novice to the deck, but I bet he faced 0 Tron leading up to the finals, and did well in draft. Decks

Then I guess we'll see nothing but Lantern in the top 8 of Toronto, right?

People sperging out about the wrong card.
Pic related is the real bullshit enabler used by quite a few decks.

People just sperging out in general. There is literally nothing wrong with Modern right now, but that's boring to talk about so people make a fuss about whatever happens to win.

So since Mardu lost, does that mean the price won't skyrocket, or is making it to the finals enough?

Modern is for tryhard fags who hate fun

Sup bruh

That bridge fucking you over?

Making to the finals and putting result in MTGO consistently for months will make the price skyrocket, in fact it is already like 10 times more expensive than it was in MKM.

I will correct myself, the price is not 10 times what was before because some more people have decided to sell some and the minimum price has fallen a little, but it is in an upward trend and it will end up at around 5 € in Europe for sure.

Exactly. Been playing Lantern for years, i'm far more scared about instant card draw, people who know how and when to fetch and cantrips than a couple of stony silences on the SB.

Gerry thoughtseized and took Stirrings over Whirl of Invention.
He later commented that he should have took Invention instead when it tutored up Ensnaring Bridge.
Lantern was very resistant to hate during the Top 8. Artifact hate? Keep your opponent off it or Welding Jar. Flashback? Cage them. Blood Moon? You play basics and opal. They have artifact counters opening hand? Hand disrupt them with Inquisition or Thoughtseize.

If there’s one card Wizards would need to ban to completely kill the deck, it would be Bridge. But that’s just dumb when we only have one Top 8 to go on.

Everybody needs to start calling lantern by its original name: dick pix. That's some funny shit

See
Attacking Lantern by destroying Bridge alone is the wrong way to do it. It's like Blood moon vs E-Tron, it's a trap newer players fall into.

Smart players realize that they need to get a mediocre threat on the board, and then save their fetches for as long as possible. They realize that each fetch = one millrock.

Again, instant speed card draw and deck manipulation are how you counter Lantern.

>play a causal exalted list

nothing better that swing under their bridge with a 5/6 double strike bird or noble

Is Hollow One just a meme or does it have other decks that are good enough to compete in Modern?
So far I’ve seen Hollow One/Vengevine (which didn’t make it past Day One) and B/R Hollow One (which the commentars said is too random to rely on).

Dude it just made top 4 of a PT. The fuck do you want? The deck isn't that expensive and can put out powerful plays. Build it.

>Chromatic Sphere
Drawing a card as part of a mana ability. God I love this game.

>The deck isnt that expensive

not every deck has access to card draw and deck manipulation

>Paying cuck US prices rather than living somewhere you can use MCM

>catmix
nope. i'm a mod in his channel though

>DnT fucking sucks and it it pains me because I love the archetype.
you should put in work to git gud with it. there's a bunch of different builds that are good against the field if you know the lines. i mean if you just want to truck people play tron or something.

>living end
>blue steel
>hollow one

are you retarded?

Diving top can be abused to MAKE a game go turns even if it wouldn't, and does so by putting you in the clear with the judges.

Scarier than stony silence desu

If you have a decent manabase, the deck literally costs nothing.

And the green version is even cheaper

Most decks do, since fetches count.

>wanted to make a hollow one deck like a year ago
>nah itll just be a shitty wanna be dredge deck
>hear about hollow one comeback
>budget deck price doubles
>goblin lore spikes up like crazy

fuck. i made this deck an was thinking about using it for a hollow one shell. it made pact of titian spike up to ten and settle at 5 and is diminishing but thats about it. i knew i shouldve nabbed gob lore.
mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-68-10-tix-modern-turn-2-tokens

I meant to buy a playset of Reveler like a year ago because the card has always been stupid but just forgot. Just like that time I did a Fate Reforged draft and someone passed me a Gurmag Angler and I sat there for a second thinking, "Wait, isn't this thing just legit stupid?".

theres so many cheap gimmick cards i wanna buy before someone breaks them. titian pacts i got for fifty cents bulk rare lot, but i knew there was a use for it. blood sun is kinda eh right now, but the fact it aint going to be reprinted anytime soon means itll go up with time. and when someone finds a combo that uses a new card with it, its going to spike like crazy. unique cards will always have a deck to make them usable, and when a pro uses it THEN it becomes the meta.

I get a set of Runed Halos a year back for $5 each :^)
