Guys, I wanna write a story. Mind helping me with the premise? >inquisitor finds out about powerful daemonic ritual occurring soon >discovers it’s going to tale place on an Eldar croneworld on the border of the eye of terror >enlists the help of a deathwatch killteam for their expertise in the ancient Eldar civilization and durability against the call of the warp >to avoid detection a small force must sneak onto the planet and destroy the source of the ritual, fighting off corrupted Eldar and more insidious foes in the process I’m open to doing Grey knights but I’d also rather not, maybe the exorcists or red hunters instead? I love counter’s GK but don’t want to do the same thing
Also what in particular might they be going to do, an think destroy a thing would be better than kill a person, maybe a magical Eldar temple or something?
All opinions and ideas are valued, thank in advance for the response
Nathan Gonzalez
Primaris lineup is finished m8, we'll be lucky to see more

Ok THAT one cheered me up! Fugg :DD

GW seems to intentionally deny Primaris marines a dedicated melee unit as one of their unfilled niches that prevent them from outright obsoleting classic marines/ We'll see if that changes.

Why not do some kind of Blackshields which had previously been Warp exposed due to reasons. Expendable, already been exposed to the horrors of the Empyrean (and therefore immune in a way ... or rather preselected for those with higher resistance) ... and perfectly within the reach of an Inquisitor radical enough to consider such a madness! For them it is a way towards redemption for perceived failings and for the Inquisitor they are handy tools... and some hidden taint in one of them may be a perfect liability which may wreak havoc at the most unopportune moment.
Lincoln Roberts
>Primaris lineup is finished
HAHAHAHA no
First of all they are marines and they always get something, second its a new range and GW will happily make more of it in due time and third Space Wolves, being the studio's favorite chapter for whatever reason, will most likely get new miniatures when their codex arrives which can easily mean more generic Primaris, a Lieutenant and a conversion pack.

They've been really meh whenever I've played against them. They either drop in and kinda kill one unit or drop in and do nothing. In both cases they're dead by the end of my next shooting phase.
Brody Fisher
Not truly a conversion imho but I do like the story it is conveying...
Cameron Butler
organised groups of blackshields like you suggested are a 30k thing, they don't exist in 40k.
The only 40k balckshields are the individuals who join the deathwatch
Lucas Cook
Me neither ... I mean they are all pariahs who are looking for some kind of redemption mostly (except maybe the 'other' Reaver-style Blackshields in 30k, those might be considered Renegades in 40k).

is 60 boyz enough for a 2000 pt list? I'm trying to avoid boyzspam/ green tide but I know every list needs a chunk of boyz in the center of it.

True. Depending on what his story requires it really would be the question of how many Blackshields the Inquisitor tries to recruit. Was thinking maybe a squad of Marines who somehow failed their Chapter and now have the choice to be branded renegades or to take the black and join the big shot with the rosette on his suicide mission. Said failing should be something too horrendous (Warp related corruption) that even Deathwatch would be out of the question... dunno if this makes sense but might be an unconventional start for a story at least.
Pic unrelated but I like it.
Joshua Nelson
Not if you want to win. 90 boyz with BC nobz, supported by ghazzy and a waagh banner, that's a solid core. 60 is just below that threshold, where the opponent can probably really take the sting out in one good turn of shooting.
Christopher Martin
I can imagine this being a mobile objective
Dylan Hill
I’d say 90 is a fair number at 2k without it being too spammy Remember, orks are swarmy pretty much by default
Alexander Green
Well I think what he’s saying is the inquisitor gets a team of individual blackshields, which I (OP story) find interesting but also a little too OC for my tastes. I’m not talented enough to write a traitor world eater that turned loyalist and is now feeling the pull of the warp again, I just want a small team of guys going full badass while you learn how they got there
I like this idea lot more, was thinking 5-6 Marines, the inquisitor, his/her bodyguard, and the inquisitorial retinue. 12 guys in total for a blackstar, plus the techmarine pilot.
Maybe some dudes from a corrupted chapter that were tricked into seeing friends as enemies, they’re still good but did terrible things in the process and were sent away as a result. Then also bring 2-3 regular marines and maybe a leader (chaplain?) or just them and the chaplain. Y/N?
Tyler Martin
I picked up 40K last weekend with the Tau starter box. As I understand it, Tau want to stay back and shoot from long distance. So is there any reason I would want to build my Fire Warriors with pulse carbines or pulse blasters over pulse rifles?
And is there a particular weapon configuration for the Crisis battlesuits that is stronger?
Ryder Brooks
Ah! This. This is cute.
Eli Kelly
What is the undisputed best Dreadnought model?
Cameron Lopez
If you don't want to do a twist, we really need to give a shit about the characters. So decide on what kind of people you want to write about or need for interpersonal drama and banter and pick marines from there. You can always make up your own chapter(s) but if you want to bank this idea to sell later, pick at least a couple from the big boys. If you want to do a twist, it depends on your no-meme writing skill. If you're a basic bitch, just have the Inquisitor be a shady cunt and betray your heroes and have them fight their way out and complete the mission. If you're actually a skilled and inventive bastard, go wild, but make it cool. Always rule of cool.
James Jenkins
Carbines and blasters are for breachers, they can charge in on a devilfish to try and take objectives, smashing whoever they meet trying to do the same thing with some meaty Assault firepower

Can anyone with any experience with painting custodes tell me how they painted the bottom of the leather gauntlets? I can't tell if the straps are going over leather or the metal armour. There are also buckled up bits that don't have any straps even attached to them.

>tricked into seeing friends as enemies

Tau have been slowly moving away from long-distance, you're going to want to play medium-distance, but mobile. Most of your weapons are medium range, or most effective at medium range, pulse rifles are most effective around 15", plasma guns at 12", fusion blasters at 9", etc, it's only really artillery that'll consistently outrange your opponent this edition. Pulse carbines and blasters are much more effective for staying mobile and getting in close to the enemy to deal devastating close-range volleys, while rifles are great for hanging back and plinking away at enemies while sitting on an objective, and rapid-firing into anything that comes uncomfortably close. Never glue the guns onto the crisis suits unless you know exactly what you're doing,, and you don't because we're getting a codex in march. Plasma is generally good at close range medium infantry killing, fusion at close range heavy vehicle killing, burst at medium range light infantry killing, flamers at close range infantry killing of all sorts, and missiles at long range heavy infantry/light vehicle killing.
