Pic unrelated

Lightly armored, sword-wielding gish who follows a personal ethos, has few attachments, and a somewhat tragic history.
I played a lot of Final Fantasy before getting into ttrpgs.

I play against type on purpose. My go-to was big, clever, strong guy with big gun/sword when I was young but I've sense branched off.
I'm a big dumb strong guy, go figure.
I guess my "archetype" is tricky with a lot of options. I'm currently playing a Pugilist with a lot of proficiencies and I'm as close to a skill monkey as can be.
I've played a lot of rogues and used things like caltrops and poison and ten foot poles and prestidigitation and molotovs to my advantage.
I also like Shadowrun for that aspect as I'll spend hours pouring through equipment and such.

Whenever given the slightest opportunity, I play a necromancer. I like exploring morally grey areas and debating the aligned nature of necromancy.
Mechanically, I get rock hard anytime any enemy dies from a DoT. Not only do necros often get plenty of spells that leave actual DoT effects, but I tend to view mindless undead under my control as a form of DoT effect as well.

I didn't even know I had a type until Tome of Battle: The Book of Nine Swords came out, then I realized it was swordsage. Martial arts styles and attacks with names and wise, scholarly warriors. So fucking good.

Above everything else, I usually play something that I feel like fits into the story well no matter what kind of character. Beyond that, I've spent the most amount of time/games playing a melee of some kind. Not necessarily a tank, but always a frontline in some way. I'd like to play other stuff, but I really just can't say no to beating the shit out of things, whether I'm male or female, elf or goblin. Monks appeal to me the most I'd say with a look like pic related rather than the typical temple monk kind. Secondly barbarians or fighters.

I also really like sorcerers, as opposed to wizards. Being able to really specialize in something is my favorite part of magic and by extension RPGs as a whole. That's probably another reason why I end up playing a melee, so I can specialize in my certain area of combat.
You sound pretty similar, but different. Just replace the skill monkey part with being a specialist. Though specializing in utility sometimes happens.

Paladin-in-all-but-name monster hunter with a gigantic bag of tricks.

Characters with a truckload of crafting skills and/or magic.

A man who has an astronomical ego, talks way too much, believes himself to be infallible and is always very honestly surprised when things don't go his way.
And he just can't stop talking, for the good and for the bad. He just goes on. Sometimes it means he will sell Eiffel tower to someone, sometimes he will infuriate a dragon. But it's not his fault. Obviously the dragon just couldn't handle the truth.

Lemme see... Characters that are my type include:
> Tricksters of various sorts
> Stealthy elves who encompass equal amounts of cute and monstrous
> Alchemists and mages who concentrate on artefacts

I'm trying to think of what I've had as my default type and honestly can't identify it. Maybe I just haven't been playing for long enough.

The usual go to is a happy go lucky innocent type that gets twisted into various forms of despaired wrecks via that setting's magic/enhancements over the course of the campaign.

It's fun suffering.

I most enjoy warrior types that are not pigeonholed into just combat.
The type that spends their evenings reading treatises from elder kingdoms, or a born leader that takes the reins by example, or a chatty sort who can sway with words when blade is not ideal, or one who knows the natural world.
I tend to characters who are brash, tempered by experience and self confidence, proactive and fearless in their faith of themselves, but not without some humility, a team player when all possible.

Well meaning but clueless practitioners of dark magic/forbidden arts/proscribed practices, who eventually come to a bad end, but in the meantime try to do the best they can and make the world a little better than they found it.

What character archetype do you imagine, and gives you pleasure to play?

The thing is that my character's I've played so far have all been pretty different.

A cunning, quick-witted face who possesses magic for manipulation as well as destruction. Generally physically weak and of average to low book smarts, but gets out of trouble with a silver tongue and some spellslinging. Common weaknesses include drink, women and some enemy or tragedy they rely on the other two to ignore.

And which one made you the happiest, felt the least stressful to have come from you?
The archetype you tend to enjoy is the one that springs forth from the mind with the least amount of effort.
I can play a charming type because I am good at speaking with others, reading them, forming strong arguments. I play confident types because I am confident in myself, mostly. I can play cruel types because I can tap into an oft maligned wellspring of greed and desire to dominate that is rooted in my own heart, even if I disdain it.

I play Paladins. Even if I started out as something else.

Characters that have entered into a service of a much higher power than themselves, typically warlocks (if I want to bid for power) and paladins (if I want a sense of duty).

Always with large personal ambitions, but lacking in the ability to accurately predict the consequences of their actions.

Close range combatants that self-buff, and prefer mobility over tanky.

There are probably other traits I use a lot but these are the ones that stand out to me immediately.

Mechanically, I like playing support/protector roles, defending teammates and debuffing enemies.

Personality-wise, I have a soft spot for shitty people that are trying to be good people. My two favourites were an illiterate ex-bandit sorceror and a vicious redneck halfling barbarian, both struggling with crises of conscience.

Wish I could agree, but my characters are different. Could say I like playing type which lets me do flashy combat moves, probably. Either colorful, detailed magic or slow motion ass-kicking / professional fencing moves.

I'm big on making characters that are redeemable villains. In D&D terms, I'm big on starting lawful/neutral/chaotic evil with an ooc plan to turn some time down the line.

Scoundrel, sassy rake, aloof renegade. I know everyone wants to be han solo, but you need to drag me away from it like a dog from his own vomit. I'll always come crawling back. Class is pretty unimportant, but anything dex or charisma based is good for my purposes.

I play various other types too, but watching someone else play the scoundrel role badly always makes me want to throw on my lando capelet and show them what's what.

I'm getting a melodramatic warlock vibe. You should try that on.

Uncivilized and tactless trackers/scouts/outdoorsmen that don't drink, don't swear, and are doggedly devout to whatever deity they worship.

I always play the silent leader / voice of reason as I've played for a very long time and I'd rather not steal the spotlight by facing or being too active.

In seasoned groups Ill play the strategist, usually as a character that has something he feels the need to repent to or one chosen against their will. I like the idea of the unlikely hero.

Massive beatstick/melee murder machine, usually with a heart of gold, especially concerning kids.
Good way to test out combat systems, and still has some RP potential.

Fast-talking swindlers with a variety of skills are really fun, but I also like tinkerers and gishes. Versatility is really important for me, but I don't need to do the most damage in the party.

Loners. Half-Orc bard hermit who sucks at playing, Half-Elf PTSD-veteran ranger...

I take too much from Mad-Max and Taxi Driver.

I'm the murder melee type as well, but my characters are usually selfish gladiator types.

I enjoy playing noble dandy pompous asshats who are in way over their head.

Generally high charisma, always party face but never the guy truly calling the shots.

As for why, I just like to sow chaos.

Any monster tamer or animal companion type class

big muscly girl who is there to have fun and kick ass and very good at not dying

highly trained specialist in a skill relevant to the main quest.
rangers for wilderness adventuring and rogues for more civilized encironments. paladins if fighting undead.

Most of my characters are of the "Do the right thing" type, or in the very least do bad things for a good outcome, and often act as the voice of reason and mercy.
Perhaps my most favorite one is CG half-elf wild mage who spent most of his adventuring career correcting things he had fucked up, usually fucking more things up as he went. He was an endless source of side quests for our DM, and ultimately derailed the entire campaign horribly.

A kindred spirit. Do you like monks?

What exactly is this type? A spy kid?

I go to the classics for my archetypal inspiration

First Name: John

Second name: Motherfucking

Last Name: Fallstaff

Magic knights or other jack-of-all-trades. I don't have to be the best, I just have to be useful.

He says the pic is unrelated, but that's just what a master of the child detective archetype would say. Everything is connected.

I always end up playing airheaded ditzy girls that act on impulse and say the first stupid thing to come to mind. I usually end up totally throwing the DM off balance. Outside of the game table I'm as reserved as it gets.

Reasonably intelligent man trying to get by in a world of stupidity.

Both IRL and Tabletop

>gear: sack, obscene quantities of

Also, feel free to replace magic with psychic abilities/hacking/superpowers. Some kind of unusual skill the rest of the party lacks.
