A magical copper coin that can be willed back into its owner's possession time and time again

Can this be abused?

Mostly useful for parlor tricks. I can't imagine anything particularly handy for one copper/brass/lowest denomination coin, other than being a dick to beggars.

I guess you could use it to turn screws if you ever got caught and had everything stripped from you, and toss it around to try and find traps, but then it's basically a magic 10-foot collapsing pole which is a pretty common adventuring tool.

In Warhammer Fantasy, yes. Make sure a dwarf ends up with it as part of a payment and you have an instant grudge button.

How is it willed back? We talking it'll just disappear and reappear in the owner's hand? Or are we talking about it zipping to your hand like Thor's hammer?

Drop it on a waterwheel, will it back.

Free infinite energy.

>Use it to get free drinks
>The bar wench is accused of theft and put to death

Oh no

The coin disappears and reappears.

You can will it back onto or into different parts of your person though, inside a pocket for example.

>Find naive and gullible person
>"I will sell you this magic copper coin that will return to its owner for one gold coin."
>Will it back later and repeat

As a rule, I tend to avoid handing out magical items that work an infinite number of times at no cost.

If something is infinite, players will find a way to abuse it.

For a few copper coins? Maybe a whipping at most if she's being really obnoxious about her innocence and refuses to pay.

This but pull the trick on your PCs.

Well, there's those upper planes'ers that would have issue with any sort of infinite abuse. The kind that just appear as a simple geometric shape and tell them they shouldn't be making infinite energy because it fucks the universe. If the players kill it, it comes back slightly stronger, until it's a juggernaut.

What the hell were those things called?

>sell the copper coin to someone
>they legally become the new owner of the coin
You just cucked yourself

>I'll sell you this coin that can be magically willed into its owners possession for two copper.
>Okay
>Receive 2 copper
>Receive 3 copper.

It gives you a 1 copper discount on literally everything as long as you make sure to never stay in one settlement for too long.

But if you use it to pay for something you're not the owner any more, that's how currency works.

>Reusable depth finder

can you write on it?

They were called shitty deus ex machinas.
If you fuck up so bad that you need to pull one of them, consider switching to a different form of entertainment.

If you sell or spend it though, you arent the owner anymore. Unless 'ownership' in the magical sense means something other than legal ownership of the coin here.

You could use it to coordinate seperat groups. Owner of the coin goes with group A, lets someone in group B borrow the coin. When group A needs group B to act, call the coin back.
You could set up traps with the coin wedged into the trigger mechanism such that ca lling it out sets off, arms,or disarms the trap.
If copper coins are big and heavy enough in this setting you could use it as unlimited ammo for a sling
You could try welding it into the hilt of a dagger, see if it will carry something with it.
You could throw it to cause a distraction and bot have to worry about the guard whos checking the noise out finding whatever you threw and realizing you threw it.

Isnt that what rope is for?

Rope is dangerous

Yes definitely. Smuggle secrets, small stashes of drugs/potions for analysis etc in a small compartment fashioned into the coin.

and finite

>Try to carve into the coin with crude human tools
>The magical coin implodes and creates a giant black hole

If the setting is suitably whacky, it'd be a great throwing weapon.

You could use it for communication. send a signal to someone you gave it to from any place in existence. Not just people. you can trigger traps with it.
If your dm and the system allow it you could turn it to gold without loosing the spell.
