Magic the Gathering cardsc are going to be changing he/she to they to appeal to "non-binary" players in dominara.
This is going too far Veeky Forums, first a fuck up by spilling a chinglish set and now this stupid shit is going to run the game for good.
Robert Smith
Garrote all the betas, then shoot the feminists in the head.
Isaiah Thomas
Better stop playing Magic now, saving card space and making gender a non issue cant happen in my game!
Samuel Bennett
Meh, nothing wrong with using "they" when you don't know someone's gender anyway, regardless of if you go in for all this spectrum stuff.
Elijah Roberts
>when you don't know someone's gender anyway
unless your blind you can usually tell user.
Gabriel Johnson
Why are you getting so worked up over something minor? Honest question.
Luis Murphy
>meh
>minor
you both have to go back
Joseph Perez
Not OP but shit like this is minor but it's a cog in a greater machine that will eventually turn the entire society into a tolerant nightmare.
Sebastian Rivera
So that change got you triggered, user?
James Perez
see you tumblrite.
Juan Powell
Fuck, it's better wording anyway. There are some cards where you read "his or her" so many times that they stop being words and start being shapes. "They" is a fine change for it, I just wish they didn't make a big deal about it being about nonbinary inclusion or whatever.
But, that's how big companies are gonna do when it comes to shilling for publicity.
Joshua Campbell
I mean in a rulebook or similar.
>The player can only move his chits along the path. >The player can only move their chits along the path.
Ryan Turner
Poor little snowflake can't handle gender-neutral pronouns. What a fucking laugh.
Gavin Lopez
>it's a "millenials think a debate over usage that long predates their tumblr politics is all about them because they're massive egotists" Stop being the worst generation.
Josiah Jackson
how fuckn old are you grandpa
Grayson Sanders
They've been talking about this for at least a decade, it's just a better wording that "he or she". Then again if they want to justify it this way what's the problem.
Anthony Sanders
Purely saving words / letters on cardspace. Next.
Zachary Nelson
>leave for a few months since when did Veeky Forums become tumblr?
Camden Cook
>this change doens't affect portuguese cards >target player by default is male >still uses male pronouns
I like it, I feel represented.
Owen Hall
Don't worry user, the trannies will turn on him eventually, they always do.
Benjamin Richardson
that's not it at all and we both know it Gavin.
Noah Brown
I feel like portuguese cards are going to skyrocket in value.
Dylan Brooks
You'd think solving the core issues the game is currently undergoing in order to retain their player base would be a more important venture than farming goodboypoints
Hunter Baker
Haven't they been considering doing this since Alara? I have no problems with them culling unneeded text and the fact they can spin it as a PR move probably works better for them
Benjamin Hughes
>88
accurate current state of Veeky Forums desu
Charles Cruz
WOTC doesn't know they'll be eaten alive by the WBGRU haird beasts.
Gabriel Russell
>is going to ruIn the game for good.
SJW politics are nonsense, but if you honestly think anyone is going to stop playing the game over this you're retarded
No, you're not, you're going to be outraged for a few days then go back to buying cards
Caleb Howard
In the past, portuguese cards had inferior quality. Now they are on the same level of english cards, shouldn't spot differences between them.
Wyatt Cooper
But it opens space for more complex effects of /custommagic/!
Hunter Price
Wotc finding threads once again
Nathaniel Young
>I am angry >Angry about toys You truly are one of the patricians of this age.
Kayden Reyes
Do you find this ruins the lore? I'm big on lore in general, but can't fathom how someone is not going to use gendered words.
I can see some guy getting disqualed for saying he is going to use "his" ability, rather than "their."
Logan Nguyen
>but if you honestly think anyone is going to stop playing the game over this you're retarded
4 million players disagree.
Connor Nguyen
>I can see some guy getting disqualed for saying he is going to use "his" ability, rather than "their."
Oh lordy please let this happen.
Adrian Reed
Why do the nazi's all look like such dorks? Imagining these people out of uniform, and they literally look like a bunch of LGS rejects.
Jacob Roberts
fucking kek. When this happen and I can garentee you it will. WOTC will see yet another mass drop, this game is fucking dead.
Luke Nelson
Because they're leftists. Nazism is socialism with a racial and nationalist bent, that's all.
Leo Clark
>A game where precise terminology is required to properly understand card interaction
>Word denoting the plural in the singular
Uhhh. Guys??
Justin Evans
Wow this is so awful.
We should all immediately boycott this game and never discuss it again, leaving only normal people to play it.
Carter Bailey
That makes no sense.
So I can use bolt on multiple people?
They is plural lol
Zachary Bell
Is a proper Magic schism possible?
Could a parallel game develop somehow where cards from before the profusion of social innovations are accepted, but new cards are also released?
Zachary Parker
Dude. The game is still the same. Nothing has changed. Why the fuck do you care? Chill the fuck out, man.
Brandon Bailey
This nigga.
Christian Reyes
another thread on wotc fuck ups another thread of wotc damage control.
I love it.
Wyatt Rivera
Shouldn't we also included a non personal pronoun for those who don't identify as people?
Something like they (and or or) [s]not they[/s]
Michael Miller
can't wait for burn to be banned in all formats
Joseph Nelson
Look, it's like League of Legends: it's a terrible game that wastes your time, wastes your money and makes you angry. Just go play something else already.
Hudson Gonzalez
I think this is pretty dumb, but singular they is not the actual problem. They has been acceptable as a singular pronoun since before most modern English rules even existed.
Josiah Hall
I don't even give a fuck if this is a SJW thing, this is going to save so much fucking space on cards. I'm always a fan of making cards less wordy, and this also saves them money on printing costs and shit, I don't know why they didn't do it a decade ago tbqh.
Angel Torres
>They has been acceptable as a singular pronoun since before most modern English rules even existed.
In what contexts? It wasn't accepted in most schools or institutions of higher learning. Media style guides didn't allow for its use either until recently. Come to think of it, I'd never even heard it used in casual contexts either until ten or fifteen years ago.
Lincoln Cook
you should include a bullet in your brain
Lucas Morris
Yeah. It's a fine choice to cut down on word space on cards, but they really should have pushed it as a means of consolidating text as well as nonbinary representation. Making it seem like they did it just for the representation angle makes it seem like they care more about pandering than they do about their own game. The fact that it lets them do the nonbinary thing should be a nice bonus, not the primary feature.
Josiah Butler
In all the same contexts they use it in now, to denote a generic person of unknown gender. In the 19th century there was a push to get rid of it, but it was used as early as the fucking Canterbury Tales, and probably earlier than that.
Ethan James
I have bad news for you then. This will open the floodgates to a veritable Cambrian explosion of identifiers. We can expect card text to expand monstrously in the coming years to fit ever more nuanced pronouns that no one be left out.
Michael Robinson
In other words, it was proper before the advent of strict language rules, but has not been proper for a few hundred years.
Owen Bell
If anything, fantasy world is where trans people might actually exist.
Sebastian Allen
Poor little franny faggot cried and pissed and moaned until this shit got pushed
Kill yourself, you mutant tranny freak
Michael Rodriguez
>Everyone who isn't /pol/ is reddit Dude, I think Nu-MtG is shit as well, but this on the list of problems this is pretty fucking insignificant. While i don't disagree with either, apparently this has been discussed over and over on the grounds of being more comprehensible since before non-binary bullshit came to be. If they want to make a change that is technically good (although again minor) and use it as an excuse to say "look at how progressive we are" i have no problem with it.
Then again, i've never met a non-binary despite the number of other mental disorders i've seen.
James Miller
...
Landon Jackson
>knowing this little about fascism Read a fucking book
Ian Jackson
have you ever met someone who wasn't a man who has read the MTG rule book
Nathan Roberts
I actually have bro, she was a real deal tomboy back in the 2000s though.
not sjw tranny trash we have now.
Josiah Cooper
Why would I want to die when I gather so much pleasure from watching cis het white men cry over their impotence? What a fantastic world to live in, where people like you have nothing.
Brody Carter
I don't care. They is a perfectly acceptable gender neutral pronoun for a game that may possibly one day be played by both genders. If they changed it to "he or she or xe" then I'd be upset. But that's not what's fucking happening you retard.
Wyatt Nguyen
>excited for all the new leaks and news >come to discuss with tgbros. >this is hottest topic
wtf
Owen Carter
Yeah, I've always used 'they' as a gender neutral pronoun anyway, and I'm enormously anti-sjw.
I think it's more common to do in British English than American English, which might explain why I don't have an issue with it but many people do.
Justin Rivera
It was proper for hundreds of years, and then it became improper in certain forms of English (British English, specifically, where they actually made a law related to it) for about 1 century, and then it stopped being improper again.
Hudson Powell
But white men have everything, we don't need a day or a month to have our achievements pushed into one moment of glory.
Sebastian Evans
>I think it's more common to do in British English than American English, which might explain why I don't have an issue with it but many people do. I've been starting to think this too as another bong
Henry Barnes
stop posting this. Veeky Forums was never liberal. in all my years I have been here there has never not been a thread complaining about how some company usually wizards is to far to the left.
Nathaniel Anderson
Well it certainly wouldn't be as big a deal in most of these settings. Get one fancy magic item, drink one fancy potion, or pay one fancy wizard, and bam, problem fucking solved permanently and without any evidence or ongoing drama.
Lincoln Wood
Veeky Forums wasnt allways this much into rightwing culture war bullshit, smelling some slippery slope everywhere.
Connor Price
How long before a pro gets disqualified for misremembering someone's unique pronoun?
Christopher Harris
Veeky Forums had three bumped-limit threads yesterday. The general from now is spelled 'Domimaria' or something like that.
Luis Hall
Good, I agree with that "he or she" in insructions, particularly when repeated, is really awkward wording. I never understood why people insist on using "he or she" when this is literally what singular they exists for (the grammatically correct way to use singular they is in reference to an unspecified person of unknown gender; some people also use it to refer to a known person of unspecified gener but that's not really grammatically correct).
Zachary Cooper
that's true but it's because of wotc and gw's recent faggotry we're being pushed into the culture war.
Ryan Martinez
You will never be what you are pretending to be
And one day your hormone-addled brain is going to break and you're going to kill yourself like every other tranny
Because you are a fucking freak, fucking malformed, broken, non-functional, invalid specimen of the human species. There is no place for you in nature or culture, and this current push by popular media to take your mind off of the fact that you are genetic waste isn't motivated by any actual concern for your welfare, it's an invitation for you to spend your money on products like real, normal people do.
Just save us all the fucking time and kill yourself now, you disgusting freak.
Oliver Parker
>I attack with my zombie >Don't you mean "mir" zombie?
instant DQ
Ryder Smith
Counting the days user, counting the days.
Jackson Mitchell
They didn't have to post about the "non-binary" shit user, that's the thing.
Lincoln Lee
I really want to see how they will do it in Russian translations.
Josiah Howard
Yep it's just a common term of reference here in Bongland.
Levi Anderson
small question, because am from a backward country where all mtg players are man or boys. What is the ratio of man to female to those non binary people playing mtg in what I assume is their main markets, you know places like US or UK ? Is ita 33/33/33 split or something?
Ryder Murphy
Additional bong also believes this. Although i myself use 'he' as my default pronoun when i don't know the gender of the subject.
William Wright
It's because they pushed the binary shit/ Nobody who is sane cares about it.
Just waiting for yet another drove of players to unexpectedly leave wotc behind.
Isaac Harris
This is a perfect example of people playing different movies of reality in their heads.
Some people are probably saying "Oh cool, less wordy cards." The SJW's say "oh cool, more inclusive".
If two different groups can like it for different reasons, I don't really see a problem.
Andrew Campbell
You seem upset user
Isaac Miller
>first they change the pronouns in MtG card text, next we're all getting sent to Tolerance Camp! You people really need to see a shrink.
Owen White
Why were cards printed with gendered language anyway
Isaac Martin
Social justice is not a threat to any of our hobbies, because at the end of the day, our hobby is and will always be insular.
They can remove all mention of gender from the cards, they can remove it from my roleplaying books, they can remove it from my 40k codices, but at the end of the day, I play with the same group almost all the time and we're always going to play the way we like. We will change the rules if we have to or even completely make up our own, and nobody can physically stop us because we are in our own insular little group just like almost every other gaming group. Nobody will even KNOW that we are doing it.
The only reason this affects you is if you're some pro player in which case you should probably be paying more attention to the fucking numbers on your cards more than their gender you fucking autist.
Andrew Martinez
because humans play the game not dogs and cats.
Isaac Cooper
how is he more wordy then they?
Joseph Richardson
But that doesn't make sense. Dogs and cats have genders.
Jeremiah Jackson
WOTC has claimed that market research shows the gender breakdown of male to female is 62% to 38%. So the female numbers are very sizeable but they've never mentioned percentages for non-binary before.
Easton Martinez
Because we come from a gendered species.
Cooper Lopez
If you don't see how radical progressive ideology is being wedged into a rapidly increasing range of popular media and entertainment, to the point of gaining monopoly, you're wilfully ignorant.
Alexander Young
But we have gendered language for dogs and cats? I refer to my dog with 'she' rather than 'they'
Henry Carter
ITS TO SAVE SPACE ON THE CARDS YOU DUMBASS
THEY REMOVED MANA POOL FOR THE SAME REASON
FUCK
Juan Nguyen
>Mir calls a judge Mirself on self for forgetting mir identifies as a transdimensional hyperbeing and cannot refer to mirself in the first person, because it implies a harmful notion of "people who are me and people who are not me" and oppresses those in the latter category. God, mir is such a fucking bigot.
Isaiah Kelly
>Yeah, I've always used 'they' as a gender neutral pronoun anyway, and I'm enormously anti-sjw.
this
it would take a board of real retards to complain about a genuinely sensible change. it bothers me when content uses "her" as a default pronoun (cough paizo cough) and I can imagine it would be the same way for women if all their shit referenced only men.
"they"/"them" should be the default for every product.
