Did anyone else really like the variant genasi they came up with in 4e? I thought they were pretty awesome in concept.

Let's be honest here; who really thinks the 5e Firbolg art is better than this?

Attached: Firbolg4e.jpg (640x478, 136K)

And with this, I gotta go for a while. Really hoping that some anons can find more 4e art.

Ogremoch really needs to install safety railings.

I love brown Dragons.

Burrowing monsters are always pretty sweet.

Should I start posting the females of 4e, or is that too cheesecakey for Veeky Forums these days?

Attached: 4e Incubus.jpg (640x806, 68K)

Yeah, they are awesome. I've got the Catastrophic Dragon artwork; should I start posting that?

Attached: Githzerai Monk.jpg (640x1857, 369K)

Dragon art is always sweet, go for it.

Alright, let's see what I can do... really, 4e had some awesome dragon art; anybody have the rest of it from the MMs and Draconomicons?

Attached: Catastrophic Dragons - Typhoon Dragon.png (1406x1705, 4.84M)

Attached: Castastrophic Dragons - Avalanche Dragon.png (600x1352, 960K)

With how awesome the catastrophic dragons turned out, it really makes me sad that we never got to see the scourge dragons.

Attached: Catastrophic Dragons - Wildfire Dragon.png (600x1353, 1.2M)

I'm not sure which Catastrophic Dragons look better; the three from the MM3 or the four from Dragon Magazine. What do you think?

Attached: Catastrophic Dragons - Tornado Dragon.png (326x703, 281K)

Should have given one of those from the MM3 for comparison, shouldn't I?

Attached: Catastrophic Dragons - Earthquake Dragon.png (946x726, 727K)

Attached: Catastrophic Dragons - Blizzard Dragon.jpg (640x465, 47K)

The MM3 ones look more dragon-like, but the DM ones look more elemental, in my opinion.

Attached: Catastrophic Dragons - Volcanic Dragon.jpg (640x487, 127K)

Honestly, so much love for the Orium, Iron and Adamantine Dragons in 4e... anyone got the latter?

Attached: Orium Dragon.jpg (640x465, 94K)

Cobalt Dragons were pretty rad too. They went from scrawny flying rat-dragons to beasts.

Attached: Cobalt Dragon.jpg (820x601, 128K)

And this is the last 4e dragon in my collection. Anyone got the others? I'm sure the 4e Red has popped up on Veeky Forums a few times...

Who else thinks 4e had some awesomely hot female dwarves?

Attached: 4e Dwarf Shamaness.jpg (640x759, 198K)

This is a personal favorite of mine. Although less impressive looking and more accidentally adorable looking

The MM3 ones look more like dragons that embody their catastrophe.
The DM ones look more like the catastrophe that takes on draconic aspects.

Both are sweet, but it depends on what you are going for.

do people actually like this shit more than 3e's art?

Yes. How can you not like this in comparison to 3e's shitty, overly angular and drab art?

This picture, more than anything, sums up why I loved 4e's focus on epic, high action-fantasy.

Attached: Dragonborn Barbarians.jpg (775x775, 473K)

is that one the "dragonfoe ragespell" or whatever the wacky sorcerer/barbarian thing was

I... have no idea what you're talking about. All Barbarians in 4e had Rage powers with a more mystic slant.

Attached: Barbarian Black Dragon Rage.jpg (640x395, 85K)

FR had absurdly region+multiclass-specific paragon paths

Personally I'd say the merits of art come down to the artists, not the edition. For the most part 4e's stuff is better, IMO, but there are standout images I recall fondly from 3.5 - the most recognizable nymph and draegloth images for example are both great pieces.

Attached: artificer3.jpg (612x800, 111K)

That seems amazingly dumb. Why design something so ridiculously niche?

I assume it was overliterally recreating some Prestige Class shit from 3.5?

The worse one from that article is Shyran Spiritblade. It depends on being a Shaman AND a Swordmage, which is secretly actually a great combo. The problem? Every element of it sucks and it's much much worse for being a Shaman and a Swordmage than the other INT/WIS Swordmage PP.

>mystic slant
Shamanistic slant so they have an actual distinction between a fighter other than they get real mad.

...Wow. Nope, that Dragonborn Barbarians picture was just from an issue of Dragon - I believe it's a clean version of the cover art?

I was using "mystic" in the general "magical" sense, but yeah, that's the point of the Primal Spirits association for Barbarians.

Dnd source book art always irks me. It sometimes randomly changes styles and can get jarring sometimes.

Attached: Primal Warriors vs Mindflayer.jpg (640x577, 154K)

I always favor no more than 3 artists a book, with an exception if they can keep a consistent style and theme.

4e is full of great ideas and great art to go with them, the main PHB races having specific design styles of their weapons and armor really as a highlight, especially dwarfs with the "no curves, all angles" design.

Yeah, I wish they'd done more art for gnomes and halflings; they were surprisingly good in this edition. Anybody got any of their art?

Attached: 4e Halfling PHB.jpg (187x600, 52K)

>gnomes were svelte, proportional fuccmachines
>Yesyebison.gif

That's the halflings artwork, user. THESE are 4e gnomes!

Attached: 4e Gnome PHB2.jpg (640x1734, 432K)

I like that 4e actually poked some fun at itself by noting the "weird similarities" between vizier devils and tieflings.

Attached: Vizier Devil.jpg (350x412, 144K)

Yeah, I liked the halflings felt like the belonged rather than just some Tolkien-esque tack on. River-nomads was a clever idea.

Gnomes as well were made unique as well, like fey-dwarfs almost, tied in to Eladrin and... the underground fey giants, Fomori?

Man, almost everything in 4e just fit and felt so much more compelling than normal generic D&D. Why did it have to be murdered, anons? Why?!

It was the game we needed, but not the game we deserved.

It's not really "murdered" though... it's all still there, and as far as I can tell, the same online play community is alive and well. It's just not getting any new material... which given what we saw produced in the Mearls era of 4e, is a good thing anyway.

Keep playing. Keep DMing. No-longer-"official"=/=dead.

My hatred for Mearls, Pathfinder and "not muh D&D" people sustains me! (Yes I have very little going on in life)

>same online play community is alive and well
Where?

Gods, if nothing else, I want to pop Mearls in the mouth for canning the Nentir Vale Gazetteers when they were freaking ready to hit the printers, all for his stupid Essentials!
