>What kind of war deity would dislike guns and suppress their development?

Ares

>What kind of war deity would like guns and support their development?

Athena

Do all those (you)s fill the hole in your heart, user?

>What kind of war deity would dislike guns and suppress their development?
The kind that prefers fighting be close-in and personal, the kind that values individual heroism above all

>What kind of war deity would like guns and support their development?
The kind that prefers fighting be pragmatic and logical, the kind that values tactics and strategy above all

I though that would be other way around - Athena being about honor and tradition and Ares more of by-any-means-necessary kind of a guy.

>What kind of war deity would dislike guns and suppress their development?
Someone that cares about honor, individual skill, duels and all the other ancient warrior aristocracy ideals. Perhaps someone that promotes champions or a specific social class, and sees them dying in droves to this new invention.
>What kind of war deity would like guns and support their development?
Someone that cares more about tactics, strategy and actually winning, than how you win.

From what little I know, don't Ares revel in slaughter and the deaths in war? Perhaps a more fitting comparison would be Thor and Odin?

Most of what I've read about Athena is very comparable to Odin, with a focus on strategy, winning wars and being clever. Perfect for adopting new tactics, technologies and stratagems.

Mars

Ares

>using guns doesn't take individual skill
>there were no heroes in war past the early medieval period
>nobody ever fought a duel with a gun
I'm pretty sure anyone but a strict traditionalist would support the refinement of war as a god of war.

I'm thinking more about Homeric or Gallic ideals of warfare, where a champion can decide a battle and a duel takes place between two opposing armies to save the manpower. Those kinds of displays of skill, those distinct heroes and that kind of duel was not present in the gunpowder age.

Both would embrace firearms, the difference is Athena would go about strategically placed sharpshooters while Ares about mowing everything down with machineguns

>What kind of war deity would dislike guns and suppress their development?
One that values physical strength above all, guns are the great equaliser after all, a little girl can kill the strongest man alive with one despite being say 20 times weaker. (Pulled from my ass)

>What kind of war deity would like guns and support their development?
One that delights in grandscale slaughter, you don't need to train much to be competent at using a rifle compared to learning how to swordfight, guns are much more efficient forms of warfare and so cause more deaths.

this

Yes, guns require skill, but prevailing in a duel with swords and the like requires a lot more personal skill. Most able-bodied men can shoot a gun reasonably effectively with relatively little training, not so for swords. C'mon, you fucking well know that, why are you being pedantic?

>heroes
As says, using heroics in a more traditional sense. Guns are somehwat "anonymous" in most cases, it's not a showdown between two champions, it's getting randomly killed out of nowhere by bullet #12 fired from that 30 round mag that got dumped in 4 seconds.

So, he never got pissed at plate armor or people inventing swords or halberds?

lady of the lake

>What kind of war deity would like guns and support their development?
sigmar

Dumb argument, they don't change the personal nature of fighting with those weapons.

Better argument, what kind of war deity dislikes guns but doesn't also dislike bows?

>What kind of deity would like guns
Why, the almighty murder/k/ube, of course

None, it's more stupid "gunpowder doesn't work because setting" shit.

Saluto Nex Alea, brother.

Ya all niggers. If a god supported your cause only becomes apparent ex post anyway. Sure, they tried to read the signs at the start of it, but the best way to gain it is ultimately to win by whatever means it takes.

Individual heroism only matters insofar as is seen by human beings of your own side and insofar as the performance of it would allow you to perform certain rites connected to the gods later on. Like dedicating heads or pieces of gear to the god of war's temple, which in turn would mean that "And then this family's X totally murderkilled some dude so hard that the god of war approved" would become part of your community's common history as the stuff you took of some dude's body wil remain on public display in the temple.

And that is totally possible even with firearms in play.

Whether the gods approve or disapprove of your conduct at any given moment really is unknowable as they're totall capricious dicks in the first place.

>this is how all fictional gods work
Yeah, okay. How about the Greek gods of the Illiad, personally intervening in fights, sponsoring their champions and celebrating their skill in duels against the champions of other gods?

>All settings work like mine do!
