Probably fairly safe as long as you dont click links to mew and bookmark mew so when you go to login, you make sure you are on a page you bookmarked before and not a phishing site.

The only danger is mew getting hacked but even then youd only lose your coins if you logged into the site while its hacked.

In the early days, 9/10 wallets were hacked or ran off with funds. That doesnt really happen anymore so you can feel fairly safe as long as your pc isnt compromised.

Most secure method would probably be a nano/ledger that you add a personal password to the end of their generated seed words. Because even if you lose the device you can always regenerate your addresses with the seed words + your extra password added onto the end.

I dont know what coins you are storing but a lot of people just do multiple paper wallets or multiple hardware wallets. So even if you fuck up, you only lose 1/3rd instead of everything.

0. do the following on a live linux cd offline
1. create a Veracrypt container with an ambiguous name (an encrypted file you can hide stuff inside) use a STRONG password.
2. encrypted your private key with a differnt password
3. put your wallets key/numonic inside
3. lock container
4. put this encrypted container MANY places (free cloud storage accounts, various email accounts, usb etc basically have so many copies in so many places, cops can never seize them all)

Done. Just dont forget those 2 passwords.
Now you just send funds to the public address whenever you want them in cold storage.
