Dropping out of school won't help. It's as short-sighted as going in high interest debt to pay off low interest debt. You should consider taking up a part-time job to pay for groceries, electric, gas, water, etc. but not her debts. Depending on the circumstances, the latter reasoning might be completely out of the question -- like dealing with a payday loan company. But in other circumstances, they will negotiate, because they want the money or they overcharged in the first place and really shouldn't be charging what they are charging and you called them out on it.
