If you found out that the owner of a restaurant you eat at 2 or 3 times a week once served 20 years for killing a child while drunk driving, would you stop going to his restaurant? Even if you have 10 different things on the menu you would have as a final meal, would you stop? This might be different for me since I have children, and I'm guessing most of you don't.

It depends. Has the owner actually reformed? Is he actually remorseful? Has he stopped drinking? Does he do anything to help the community out? If the answer is yes to all of my questions, then yes, I will continue to go there.

No kids by the way.

>served 20 years
That's a hell of a punishment. I'm sure he won't be getting drunk and driving again, and I'm sure sure he regrets doing that.

What the fuck was the kid doing on the street in the late hours of the evening?

Anyone that's paid their debt to society and reformed gets a clean slate with me. I also think it's wrong for employers to be able to access people's criminal records. Felons being unable to own guns or vote is debatable though.

This goes 10x for anyone that makes good food. Some old fuck that did 20 years in prison, got out and runs a kitchen that feeds people real good food is probably a great guy.

Oh fuck, I thought that was going to end badly.

He paid his debt. I don't give a shit.

I'd agree with these two. Sounds like he did his time, presumably repaying his debt to society.

Nothing can bring the kid back, but if this guys dedicated the rest of his life to making tasty foods then, well at least he's being productive, and at least two lives didn't totally end when he hit that kid.

The restaurant does sponsor a little league team every year but i couldn't say what if anything else they do in our community. The owner is weird and is rarely actually there. Rumors are that his wife left him in 2015 because he was boozing and cheating at some food convention. The restaurant is small and employs only like 12 full time people.

I've read enough manga to know what happens around deadly Japanese trucks.

Fortunately IRL Japanese elementary school students are too cute with their bright yellow hats for visibility and hard randoseru backpacks.

What do you do, m8? If you really take an ethical stand on this one you discriminate with your dollar and stop goin. Sounds like you're asking us cause you want to still go without feeling that pang of guilt. Problem is that's not possible. If you want to go, go. All you can do is tell yourself 'yeah it sucks, but you know how I love this food..'

Then down 'a few' and drive home.

I'd eat there more often because of that fact.
t. I'm hardcore and edgy.

I stopped taking my children there, but I have eaten there myself alone twice since i found out in march. Im trying to get a feel if im doing the wrong thing or not.

>your president orders men to Iraq
>find out they carpet bomb cities and kill children in the process
>people still pledge the allegence

No. Just by paying taxes in America, you are sponsoring the murder of thousands of children around the world.

No, because criminal records don't alter the flavor of food. If he already did 20 years from his crime, then he's already been dealt his appropriate punishment. That's the entire point of having a judicial system.

People are allowed to learn from their mistakes you fat shit, your moral obligation to make lives unnecessarily difficult isn't helping anyone. He's not going to get flash drunk on a Tuesday at 11:40 AM and drive his car through a crowded restaurant because you happened to bring a 10 year old there to eat.

Seems like some shady old guy that owns an otherwise nice restaurant. Maybe he's got some problems but it's kind of rude for you to make them your business. The right thing to do would be overlooking them I think. Consider that he employs 12 people and provides their livelihood. Those are good people that make good food for you and your community. If the business fails they'll also lose their jobs.

Okay lets change the question. What if it was YOUR child that he hit and killed

I would go for the same reason that I still see Polanski/Woody Allen movies.

I'm able to separate the art from the artist

He wouldnt be around today.

How would someone who did 20 in the pen become a business owner? He'd be lucky to get even a bad job.

If he did 20 years I'd probably forgive him. I'm a big hearted person though. It's good that he's not there much because I wouldn't want to be around him and would make it a point to go when I know he's not there. Maybe eating there would remind me and I'd feel like shit, in that case I wouldn't just because it ruins my appetite and not on moral grounds.

Thinking if he owned another kind of business like the local supermarket or whatever, it wouldn't impact my view of the business much. Unless I wanted to be really bitter, stubborn and spiteful about it. Like blood feud tier. It's a good business, owned by a bad man. Don't confuse the two, sins of the father etc.

At one of my past jobs, one the employees at the company I was at was recently in prison for 10 years for manslaughter. He only got the job because he knew the owner. He'd be fucked otherwise.

Then it would depend on a shitload of context and blameworthiness that is beyond the scope of a hypothetical situation. If you want to be a thorn in someone's ass that badly then just post him on Tumblr like the rest of the self-victimizing whales.

No, if they served their time, they served it

Yes. He did his time and shit happens; the earth will continue to spin and revolve around the sun. He could have drop-kicked a baby for all I care.

i trade my money for food and i dont care who it's from

i bet mcdonalds has killed more people on purpose than this guy killed on accident
but it's ok it's just food i dont care mcdonalds

I wouldn't care. He did his time. On a marginally related note, I got a DUI once and had to go to a victim impact panel where I had to listen to people who had family killer or did kill somebody drunk driving. One woman had her 8 yo sons head chopped off by a coked up motorboater.

actually a very good point

do you refuse to eat at mcdonalds because their unhealthy food has contributed to the deaths of thousands of fat people, heart-attack-grill style?

Yeah it's fucked up, man. I hope you never do it again.

>woman had her 8 yo sons head chopped off by a coked up motorboater.
Holy shit! How did you not shoot soda through your nose laughing?

because empathy is generally inherent to people who AREN'T autistic user

you fall squarely on the spectrum so no worries there!

how do you get killed by a motorboat? was he swimming in the docks or something? is he a fucking beluga whale? it's such an absurd death it's very funny.

No...empathy is a learned behavior...

If you are never taught how to be kind, you can find joy in death and destruction...

>some people just want to watch the world burn...

drunk idiots with motorboats + shallow waters + inattention to people/children around them

Don't question how fucking retarded drunks are

Hell no....you can't taste manslaughter.

so don't swim around the motorboats idiot. like running in front of a drunk driver and saying it's because they were drunk. no, it's because you ran in front of them like an idiot.

??? You do realize that a motorboat moves faster than a human can in water, right?

You're not only autistic but retarded to boot.

motorboats can't dive under water idiot

dont just float there ignoring the vehicle apparently hurtling towards you

how to people get hit by cars, just move out of the way idiot

your argument is literal trash much like the condom that failed to prevent your conception, that is if your neanderthal parents even understood the concept of prophylactics

>diving under shallow water

You're a special kind of retarded, you know that?

I wouldn't mind it at all.

He committed a crime of negligence, not malice and he's already served 20 years. If it was a child molester or something then I'd probably avoid the place.

and here I thought my money was doing nothing valuable!

fuck your children.

filthy breeders fucking selfish compulsive swine beasts

*tips fedora*

Is the food good? If yes, then no, i wouldn't stop going.

Exactly what I was going to say. Is he getting drunk and running over my steak in his car? Are the parents of the kid he killed fucking with my food?

You're not the judge OP. The guy has been before a judge, been sentenced, served his time and should be considered absolved (providing he's not still drink-driving). It's none of your business what happened in the guy's personal history. You have a restaurateur/customer relationship and his personal life shouldn't be any kind of factor in your decision to eat at his place, unless it directly affects you (ie. you're gay and he's a homophobe - or vice versa).

How would you feel if you showed up and he refused you service because he found out you post on an anime website that has hosted child porn in the past and currently hosts racist bigotry in places? You'd think it was a little presumptuous, would you not?

I have a 19 month old and 6 month old. Would not stop going

gonna blame a dude for an accident that you weren't even involved in enough to try to hurt his business?

i dunno, you seem like a faggot

but then again, i guess op always is

yes. Seeing as how most small diners in my area are run by the mafia. i still eat at them.

Unless it was someone I personally knew I would keep going there with no remorse in my mind.

On a daily basis I meet people that have done and received all kinds of fucked up shit in their lives
I see the ones that get better and the ones that stay as a fuck up; they are so easy to spot.

As a father, no. I couldn't go and eat there knowing that he willingly got drunk and was responsible for a kids death.
He may have changed now, but it's too late for me.

Holy fuck, how can one person be so fucking stupid.

Here come's the alcoholic defense brigade.

It's very clearly the other way around. Are you going to say sociopaths are the genetic norm of humans?

No kids here. Yeah, probably would stop going. Lot of the other posts here trying to give the guy credit, but we don't know anything about him other than he's guilty and served his time.

Now it's not my job to punish him, but I'm also not required to help his business prosper. So yeah, I'd stop going, but I certainly wouldn't start some grand crusade to get other people to stop going too.

I believe in integration of ex crims into society so yes id eat there.

Which hunts lead to more violence

>If you found out that the owner of a restaurant you eat at 2 or 3 times a week once served 20 years for killing a child while drunk driving, would you stop going to his restaurant?
No. It isn't like he fucked the kid and murdered it.

>If you found out that the owner of a restaurant you eat at 2 or 3 times a week once served 20 years for killing a child while drunk driving, would you stop going to his restaurant?

Not really.

What he did over 20 years ago doesn't have anything to do with how he cooks and prepares food for others.

He is likely remorseful about it and has been feeling like shit ever since he got convicted. Regardless of what he is feeling, he already did his time, paid his debt to society, and is now trying to pick up the pieces of his broken life and make something out of it. Just leave him alone.

And, if we don't pay taxes, we go to jail, so damned if we do, damned if we don't. There's no winning with people like you.

>which

Anyway, no one here is saying they would publicly shame him, it's more this .

>Veeky Forums - Things Tangentially Related to Food & Cooking

Yeah, I don't think I would be able to enjoy being there with heavy shit like that on my mind.

they get saved by a deadbeat that hasn't done anything good in his life, but suddenly decides to push the girl out of the way at the cost of his own life?

I judge shit on merit. Did he grind the kid up and put him into the food? no?

Did he serve his time? yes?

Then yes I'm going to eat it.

that's the ONLY way to get a good job as a felon. make your own job

>done his 20 years
>Was drink driving
>Probably traumatised by the event
Of course I'd still eat

I'm not sure if I would stop eating there. Yes because I hate people that break road rules but I hate kids so no for that.

Oh you care about some child who died 20 years ago, but what about the mass murder he, and you yourself, contribute to every day? The ethical hoops that carnivores have to jump through must be exhausting, especially with all that carcinogenic meat rotting in their bellies.

empathy is objectively a primal instinct, pretty much all flock animals has it.

I want an ignore vegan bait meme.

CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING CHILDREN

LETS TALK ABOUT THEM

How does that shit influence his cooking skills?

who cares what he's done with his life?

it's not as if he's murdering children (hopefully i suppose), and if you hadn't found out you'd still go there with your kids without a second thought

It was a child, not a real person. I'm pretty militant about drunk drivers under normal circumstances but in this case, no harm done.

Everyone laugh at the bitter virgin.

Hubby and I think you're silly.

>once served 20 years

That's the key point. He's done his time and now just trying to earn a living and get by.

>This might be different for me since I have children, and I'm guessing most of you don't.

Well, most of people on here have a child like mentality so does that count?

GET THE FUCK OFF MY BOARD

Because the head chef keeps breaking his balls over it and it distracts him greatly from his duties.

>sal this fuckin' steak looks like ROADKILL
>hot behind, BEEP BEEEP
>mikey, don't forget the spinach when you TOSS MY SALAD
>finally getting a push here guys, time to SWITCH GEARS
>how's that lobster ravioli coming doug? i've been waiting TWENTY YEARS for it!

I was just talking about something like that yesterday. I don't know what your OP pic was as it's been deleted, but I'm wondering if it refers to local shenanigans in my area.
There's a central-Asian/durkadurka/Latino fusion restaurant here. The owner is/was (not sure how incarceration may or may not affect property ownership, if at all) a central-Asian/durkadurka Jew emigrant to some country in Latin America. She then moved from that country to the US a while back and opened a restaurant here.
Ten years ago, that Jewess mowed down and killed a girl with her Lexus. It's been a local topic of discussion recently because she's up for parole this month.

I would eat, sure.

Why do mods delete images? It's fucking stupid and just makes the thread impossible to find. If the thread is against the rules they should just delete the damm thread, fucking hell I hate Hiroshima and this new regime

>killing a child while drunk driving

was he supposed to wait until that drunk kid killed a bunch of other kids?

sure he should have just taken the drunk kid's keys away but sometimes you just have to act - TO SAVE LIVES!

No. I mean, maybe if he bragged about it or his response was "YOLO" or something like that, I wouldn't give him my business. Otherwise, yes. If he's paid his debt to the state, why should I treat him like a pariah? Everyone has fucked up. Some are unlucky enough that it involved the unwitting death of another. There isn't a moral difference between the two without the intent to kill.

reminds me of something that happened to me. used to go to a place in chinatown melbourne every time i stayed in the city that had the best service and meals. ate their at my birthday once and the head chef was so excited to sing me happy birthday.

went down there like, a year or so ago to found out it was shut. found out that the owner stabbed a guy to death and the store closed.

shit sucks man.
