Yeah. I got out because kids are getting less and less capable. Over about 10 years I saw it happen to 7th-8th graders. Parents give their kids a phone and don't have to interact with them. A phone gets a kid "out of their hair."

The end result is a needy kid who is not self sufficient. They don't really go outside and play anymore.
