Sugar. Also don't bother.

This. It's nothing but a shitty polenta.

Stop buying shitty grits then.

check out Anson Mills. amazingly tasty.

Literally any brealfast food. This shit is hype af. U n 4 a treat nigga.

I'm in the south and i usually load my grits up with some combo of eggs, gravy, bacon, sausage, green onions, mushrooms, and/or cheese.

Don't buy powdered gravy that shit is a fucking scam. When you're done frying your meat, add some flour and milk to the grease and fucking bam.

no grits are made of nixtamalized corn and polenta is not.
The difference in flavor and texture is huge.

>Don't buy powdered gravy that shit is a fucking scam.

Same with "instant" grits

OP here, if I get grits they will be proper ones, not instant. Any suggestions on brands?

>Any suggestions on brands?

I just gave you one. Anson Mills.

Savory is the best route. Add crumbled bacon or sausage with cheese and eggs.

I meant other brands as well. in case i can't find that one

^this for savory
Or caramelize some apples in brown sugar and add some cinnamon

they do mail order and you have the internet. of course you can find that one.

And don't forget this and all the pimp shit oh yeaher: cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/11222-grits-and-shrimp

Don't listen to these faggots OP. Really? Sugar? Grits aren't oatmeal. Start simple with butter and salt to see if you even like grits. garlic and/or cheese is a good second step, then go with whatever sounds good.

>sugar
>grits
Yankee faggot confirmed

Pic related is best for grits

When its cold or when its not...
If you want something hot...
Come on down...
We'll be cooking up the grits!

East or West, North or South...
If you don't like grits
Just hush yo mouth....
Cause down here, we'll be serving up the grits!

Loaded up with lots of cheese and butter...
Never think of adding any sugar, No Sir!

If you want something sweet,
You can have some Cream of Wheat...
But down here, we'll be stirring up the grits!

Serve them up with bacon, eggs, or maybe...
Top 'em with a little red eyed gravy, Oh Baby!

As a side or casserole, its the food good for your soul...
Come on down....we'll be putting on the grits!

The only way to really fuck up grits is adding sugar. It's not Cream of Wheat. Go with butter and salt. I cook mine thick and eat them hot before it forms a skin.
If you've got the skill, you can cook a couple eggs in the grits and really get a good breakfast going.

...What the fuck? Sugar on grits?

You put butter on them, and salt, and maybe an egg.

Who the fuck puts sugar on grits?

Ever been to jail? Normie scum.

Bad people get bad food.

I don't like grits but that's because I'm from California and I can't eat anything without sriracha and jalapenos.

...

You can put those in grits...

>OP Update
So I tried grits with butter and salt and they're pretty good that way. I might try them with cheese and bacon next. I bought the pic related grits.

Ah, that's a good company. The owner actually sold it to his workers.

Anyone wanna fuck my arse?

Baked garlic cheese grits are the bee's knees.

Yanks

Only the south knows how to make grits right.

>sugar in grits

I don't know what's wrong with all of you slack jawed faggots, but grits are fucking awesome. cook em up throw a slab of butter on then salt & pepper. I eat this every time I go camping with a fresh caught trout for breakfast.

OP if you're feeling crazy, try cooking about 3 eggs in your grits. Just crack them straight in.

My dad cooks his with Goya pollo bouillon instead of plain water.

The grandmother pressure cooks hers (no difference, I don't think)

I like mine thick like oatmeal instead of runny.

What do the eggs do, user? Do they give it a different texture or something?

oh no! not sugar! that's this year's nutritional satan!

>different texture or something?

obviously. They would bind it up a bit. And add egg flavor.

NO NO NO NO NO DO NOT DO THIS.

Butter, salt, black pepper, cheddar cheese. All you ever need.

...

That would go quite well in grits.

I like tobasco and black pepper in mine.
