Also, general Chef John thread. Talk about his cooking or recipes of his you've tried.

I can personally recommend the Chicken kebabs

I love his fisherman's pie and carnitas recipes.

Cayene is an awesome spice, if this thread is all about his cayene meme. I put that shit even in my cocoa milk. It makes chocolate more cocolaty.

Putting something spicy in chocolate dishes is a well-known way to make chocolate taste better, also the reverse is true, where you put dark chocolate into something spicy (e.g. chili)
There's some theories about why this is the case, like how the pain sensation from the spice makes your nerves more receptive to the other flavours.

Also stuff I made directly from his channel: Sriracha, tons of sriracha; tartiflette, cassoulet, salted caramel custard (that stuff is like a piece of heaven), I make shakshuka regularily, but that isn't directly from his channel, same with fermented pickles, persian rice is also great, ... fucking chicken kiev - god tier. His channel taught me to make souffle ... those are just the newest recipes which I remember well.
I also take a lot of inspiration from his channel in general.
And sometimes I watch him as sort of food porn when I'm munching on ramen (a week before payoff)
>10/10 channel, definitely better than how to make processed mash with "chef" Jack

if we ever get a sticky, his channel should be in it

While true, I think a lot of the times he does it as part of a joke. Like his "power bars" that he just made.

In a Q&A video he says that he genuinely thinks even a little hint of Cayenne occasionally makes stuff better, as far as I remember.

there's nothing wrong with those bars. Dates, nuts, cocoa, no sugar, it's all vegan, organic and all those modern social media stuff.
>also that pinch of cayene :>

If you guys haven't done it yet, I highly recommend making his pita bread. It's awesome.

His tikka masala is awesome

Made that Monday night and it was great. Used coconut cream.

I like turning on his videos sometimes because his voice is relaxing. Like the Bob Ross of cooking

I just made his carnitas last night, shit was cash.

I made his Sopa de Ajo recipe the other day, it was like liquefied garlic bread. Perfect for a poorfag like me.

I did his crab rangoons.

Man, it does my cold heart AWFUL to discover that we did daily threads for Jack... but Chef John barely gets mentioned.

Also, his tuna conserva is something I want to try.

Jack gets mentioned often "ironically", but we're at a stage where people forget it's supposed to be a joke.

His uptalk annoys me

Chef John taught me how to fry food.

The buttermilk chicken recipe. For the most part, buttermilk is a meme, there's better things you can do. Try marinating your chicken in yogurt.

Egg wash and seasoned panko is easier, faster, and just as good. But I cherish my knowledge of submerging foods in a 400 degree bath of peanut oil.

Did you follow his recipe exactly? How good was it?

followed the recipe exactly

kind of a letdown since I was expecting the buttermilk to have a lot more flavor, and make the chicken juicier and creamier, but it make it a little more pungent. Since I wanted a juicier, creamier chicken, I use yogurt instead, and that tastes fantastic.

yeah that inflection really triggers my autism

...

I tried his pancakes. There's something seriously off with his recipe because they were fucking vile

Might be the 3.5 tsp of baking powder

His lemon squares dessert was pretty decent. I want to try his cheese blintz recipe.

Whoa... It's too early for this shit. I really thought it was fried chicken.

and as always, enjooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooy :^)
