How do I get good at online poker? I need another way to make money staring at a screen besides crypto

Get an office job then queer

no

play holdem. there are dozens of books you can find that explain how to maximize expected value given your hand and what's on the table, betting strategies etc. find one that makes sense, read it over and over and practice what it teaches you over and over. I mean practice A LOT. 6-8 hours a day for a year and you will be able to clean up soft tables or grind EV out of multiple tables at once online.

I used to play a lot of online poker, I was a pretty known 6max nlh player, if you played in 2009-2015 you might remember wilhasha. Right now it's very hard to make a living off poker, even on the lower stakes. If you're absolutely hellbent on trying I'd recommend some of the relatively soft euro sites.

Use a 3rd party program (assuming the site you're using doesn't have one) that tells you the chance of winning.

Good answer. Thanks. Have you done this much yourself?
That's what I keep hearing. I'm still kind of holding out hope that getting in now before it eventually becomes mainstream in the US again will help a lot in the long run. In the meantime, do you think it's realistic to make $1000 or so a month consistently without playing more than 40 hours a week?

you are wilhasha? i watched many of your games back then instead of watching porn. you are one crazy mofo. and now you are into crypto? arent you already a millionaire?

Perhaps if you're a really good low-stakes player capable of 24+ multitabling

Not as rich as you would think, glad some people still remember me though :)

i went hard for a few months but i couldn't get consistent. i really needed money so i got a job instead, haven't picked it up again now that i'm into crypto. i reiterate, you have to grind like a motherfucker to get good. a couple friends from college made it work, but it took both of them over a year grinding all day.

For tournaments:
Read Harrington on Hold' em, play a couple weeks with what you learned in mind.
Then read Kill Everyone to update to a more sophisticated level.
Get a HUD like holdem manager. Learn about the important stats. Join 2+2 forums to first lurk and later discuss interesting hands.
Then just play a shitload, minding discipline (stop playing when tilted, don't play rag hands "just this once", etc.).
Run all your big winning, big losing, and otherwise interesting hands through the simulator on propokertools (free online simulator). Simulate what if situations by changing opponent hand ranges.
Get a deep understanding that you still lose a significant amount of hands where you are far ahead against terrible players, and that it's all about volume and long term statistical edges.

cool. this thread is blessed. i railbirded you hard, analysed your hands and couldnt figure out how you could kill the tables so often. i liked your style more than isildurs. big fan. wish you all the best.

Use a bot, execute it against shitty players.

Poker seems gay as fuck though.

The same amount of time you dump into getting good at poker could be spent learning programming or another useful skill that could earn you $100k+/yr.

Is it even possible now with Pokers stars basically having no payouts/rakeback and having like 5% rake?

See the thing is though, I went down that route, ended up with masters in comp sci. I work in Sweden and get only 50k euros a year (2 years exp. but I bullshit and claim 4). This is only about 60k usd...

On the other hand a friend of mine plays poker, while he’s not mega rich he averages 250k profit a year, tax free.

This board is the worst place for nofap, man. Just look at this guy. Goodness me.

I can't speak for Sweden, but 250k here is pretty doable. If you join a large company like Google, you can make over 300k.

Programming has way more potential upside than poker too. Net worth of the 20 wealthiest pro poker players: 10-100M. Net worth of the 20 wealthiest programmers: all in the multi billions.

Keep it as a hobby. When you consider Daniel Negranea actually lost money last year, it shows you how competitive poker is these days. Imagine going on a 6 month downswing when your bankroll = food/rent etc.

Since there is a thread. Is Vegas lowstakes softer or harder than Party Poker? I want to play when I'm there but I'm scared of being the fish at the table.

recreational player, like others stated though, poker is ridiculous right now. Why dont you spend your time/money on quant finance instead, learn to program algos to trade for you, etc? most forex, options models long dead and arbitraged away work surprisingly well in crypto. depends on your math background though I guess

Can't speak for Vegas specifically but the general comparison is that 100NL live is about equal to 10NL online. I've played for years and don't even break even at 10NL online. Can absolutely crush 100NL live though. Maybe that's just me or where I play in London but I find live so much easier.

Yeah i have mixed feelings. On the one hand there will be more people willing to just gamble for fun since its vegas. But on the other hand it might scare people away. I am also a bit socially awkward and scared of everyone laughing at me for a bad all in call or something, i dont want that stress on my vacation. That and I expect online players to be more splashy.

coinpoker.com

learn how to play omaha. nlhe has become so hard to beat in the last few years while omaha is still beatable and pretty fun.

LOL u are not Wilhasha

In my experience it's a lot easier to spot the fish in lower live stakes. Much easier to get a good read on opponents. I'd say try it out if your not too nervous you might enjoy it.

don't bother. If you haven't already been playing for years, and aren't extremely disciplined and intelligent you will never make it. The game used to be a gold mine but it has dried up. You need to study equilibrium and learn maximally exploitative counterstrategy to what opponents do, ETC. You need to run Simulations on Piosolver.

If you are capable of making decent money playing poker you can make more money doing something else.

People literally have to find agents to play on Chinese APP sites to find a decent game these days
