Finding more information about contractor/business who scammed me after my mother passed

I'm in the military and at a military school. Mother unexpectedly passed away at 56 a little over 2 weeks ago. Took emergency leave to fly home as the executor of her estate. In the course of approx two long weekends, I handle 90% of everything.

Hire a contractor to replace the carpet, treat walls with chemicals, primer, paint, and a few other things. Paid for supplies up front - got an invoice with the guy's name, number, address, and his business. His business name is "All About the Detail" and the address on the invoice that he signed is McKeesport, PA.

Looks like he is going to stiff me. Trying to get him to bring the materials to my father, who I put in charge when I had to leave. Thus caught him lying about some of the work that he allegedly started. Called him out, he basically quit and said he will just give us the supplies that we paid for...but has dragged feet.

Not about the $ - it's about the principle. Not trying to play the victim card here, but this guy knows the situation and still screwed me over. I understand this happens constantly with contractors.

In the last month, grandfather passed, mom passed, wife has cancer, and even my darn dog is about to pass away after 15.5 years. After all that, factor in the fact that I can't be home like you normally would after a major death in the family and I'm trying to handle the estate as best as possible. Everyone has been helpful, but this guy knows all this and still is screwing me over.

How should I approach this situation? I'm in a sticky situation being so far away, but I am having a hard time finding info on this guy's business. I have his address which I think is his personal and his phone number, as well as his name.

Part of me really wants to find some sort of link from this guy to something official, so I can plaster all over social media, and even contact local media. You have to stoop pretty low to take advantage of a family going through that kind of madness right now.

why are contractors always such fuckers?

For a start you don't text you ring. Then you find out his address and poison his letters.

handle things the old fashion way
>when hes not home slash all his fucking tires

I like to text because then I have a better record of what has been said, promised

Post his contractor license

Inb4
>he doesn't have one

If that is the case, you fucked up. Suck it up.

In my country (aus) you'd send what's known as a "Letter of Demand" (templates online) with signed delivery so you know he received it. You'd outline 2 weeks for him to give what he owes. If he doesn't, you take him to small claims court. If he still doesn't show up or provide what he owes you, you can get a sherrif to escort you into his property and sieze your assets. Sometimes, if there's property in the front of his house, a sherrif will let you sieze it if it's at equivalent value of what you're owed.

If I was in your situation I'd do that. If all else fails, I would go to his place of business or home and take what I payed for, even if that means assets to an equivalent value. I'd also consider smashing a window or two, for good measure. Fuck him, he's clearly a piece of shit and betting on the fact that you just give up and let it slide.

I'm really sorry to hear of your situation OP, you seem like a really reasonable and kind guy. I truly hope all works out for you mate. Best of luck to you and particularly your wife in this time. Stay strong mate, she'll be right.

I live right next to Pittsburgh, OP

You should sue him.

Contractor here...

I'm not a fan of the supplies up front routine. I don't do it. I make them sign a work order and I take a before and after video on my cellphone.

In 5 years 3 people tried to not pay me. I threatened all 3 with a lawsuit and all 3 paid.

In your case I hope you have this guy a check and not cash! In either case just tell him you want either the supplies or your money back within 5 business days or you will file against him in small claims court.

And if he doesn't, file.

Consider going to court a learning experience and you will feel better about it. In life you will occasionally get fucked. Part of being an adult is going to court. Just accept it.

either sue him or hire the brothers of the hammers mc to dish out some justice

Also, this is a very common problem with small time contractors. Judges have no problem putting them in their place.

Also guys like this aren't bad, they are just idiots and shit with Money. And they don't buckle until you threaten them. And then they buckle.

90% sure if you do what I said, you'll get your money or supplies.

How much money was it?

Yeah, I know. I don't think "suck it up" is the right answer here. Just because I don't have a contractor number, the guy is still a criminal

My cousin is my attorney, she owns a law firm in Pittsburgh. However, it's more about me wanting to damage his business and reputation than I am concerned about the money. I hope that makes sense, but I don't want to see other people get into this situation.

My cousin is an attorney in Pittsburgh and owns her law firm. I will take him to court, not that I expect to get the money. I would rather ruin his reputation and prevent it from happening for larger amounts of money than get my money back (long story, but it's going to be expensed through the estate). I know that sounds ridiculous, but I'm more upset about the act than the money...

3k. I'm more concerned about the reputation and preventing this from happening to someone else, than I am getting the money (even if it ticks me off).

You sue him. Make sure you read up about presenting facts and talking to the judge. You give facts, they give excuses. Then you have to actually collect the money.

I have no issues with court. It may seem like I'm a young guy because I left my father in charge, but I'm almost 37. Which is why I'm more upset about the act and how I can get him ruined on social media more than I want 3k that's just going to come out of estate expenses anyhow.

Oh then git good and dox him. You're here so you must have half decent sleuthing skills

Baseball bat to his fuckin kneecap. Teach that degenerate flake what happens when you stiff a Soprano. And you want 10% of whatever he’s bringing from your neighborhood or you come back for the other kneecap.

they have laws there?

Post a phone number so we can get some vocaroos going

And don't get to bent out of shape and do something stupid. Just enjoy the time with puppers, your wife and father

lemme see what happens tomorrow morning. He's supposed to return supplies then, but I doubt he will. He has stopped responding to me. Then I will unleash his address and phone number. I'm new to Veeky Forums, will you get a notification if I post tomorrow?

If he has a license you complain to the state.

If he doesn't you tell the state he is operating without one.

what do you mean, something stupid? like contacting Veeky Forums for help lol...or social media, or you mean like actually harming him? I wouldn't do anything illegal, I have a career and a life. and I can't go back to PA right now anyhow.

No, post with that name (Matthew) so we know it’s you.
Don’t forget, louisville slugger introduced to his kneecap.

that's part of the problem, if he refuses to tell me at this point...was hoping Veeky Forums could help me find him to determine if he was legit or not...because I'm not having much luck

Thread will be gone. Maybe some people will remember you from tonight, I dunno. Post it on Reddit they'll tell you the "right" way of dealing with it. Veeky Forums will just tell you to kill the guy and send his family some harassing phone calls

hehe...I can't do that, even though I know you aren't serious...like I said, I just want to make sure this shady character doesn't scam someone for their life savings or something more than I need the 3k. Granted, I want the money back or the supplies, but I'm not holding my breath. I consider it like a casino - the money is lost when you enter. He definitely is screwing me, I'm just more upset he would do it knowing the situation. But some people are just horrible human beings.

Dude, "insert state" contractors license search

Eff it I'll do it for you. PA right?

Yeah harming him or vandalism

You gotta post his business here first for Veeky Forums to "help." Beware those who open this Pandora's box of autism

hmm, so can we find out if he's a legit contractor, or maybe something more official about his business? i have an invoice from him, but i guess what i don't want is people calling him and threatening to beat him with a stick or something.

no, that's not my style, and not worth my career. i wouldnt do that

if you want him dead i'll do it for xmr email me at [email protected]

I'm a vet.

I don't appreciate people fucking my brothers.

Full name and number. We can handle this fast.

his business is called "All About the Detail" but I can't seem to find it. I have an invoice, from an invoice generating website for small businesses, but I'm sure that can easily be manipulated or faked. I looked up his address, it appears to be his house. So I'm not sure of the legality of me posting his phone number or address..serious thoughts on that?

hicsearch.attorneygeneral.gov

Nothing under "All About the Detail"

I looked on a website, can't seem to find it. It's called All About the Detail with a Mckeesport, PA, address

Well it isn’t 100% legal but maybe you post an image of the back of the paper and woops! Paper is a little transparent

yup, I was on that same website. damn.

Tell him to refund you in entirety or you will report him to the Attorney General (apparently they handle contractor lic. in PA) for operating without a license. If he does not, follow through.

hey, thanks for your service. I have his name and address which he listed for his business, but it appears to be a house on google street view. not sure of the legality of posting that...meaning, I want to find the guy, but I also don't want to be taken to court myself because I got people to harass him. I'd like to find more info out so I could social media out him perhaps.

Then go hard. Post it on social media, go to review sites and post 0 star ratings. Even better, find as many business directory sites you can and register him up to all of them. Leave reviews on every single one warning people of this scammer. Post it on any of his facebook pages, and post it on community pages (i.e. "Pittsburgh Crime Watch" or "Pensylvannia Town Hall", in my country we have super popular "have a whinge" pages, i.e. "McKeesport Have A Whinge" etc. Etc.)

File a notice to the relevant ombudsman, send an email to local TV stations about "contractor scams grieving local family". Call up radio hosts and explain the situation. Find relevant blogs on local businesses, and leave your comments.

Be sure to:
>always remain completely factual to protect yourself
>be sure to come across as reasonable and balanced, it will help your cause
>cite his full name, his full business name and website if possible
>repeat this everywhere that is relevant across the web
>the goal is to make people aware of his business and instantly associate negative stigma with it
>whenever someone searches "All About The Detail contractor" or his name, your review should be the first thing they see.

If there's a wikipedia page for your town, consider putting a "notable scams" page or something like that there. Be extremely careful in remaining factual and using measured language to protect yourself. Courts will see a reputational attack as more severe than a small unpayment for goods in unclear circumstances.

Look at sites like "Ripoff Report", "consumeraffairs.com" etc. and leave your circumstances there

good tip there...if the invoice says his business is called "all about the detail" and he's not on that website, is that enough proof i wonder for them to hammer him for operating without a license...the invoice has his sig on it as well.

Careful m9 he might ghost if you do that. Play some chess. Don’t spook him away

this is kind of what i had in mind when i posted here...the issue is I cant seem to find him anywhere. so are you saying to basically create that business on yelp, for example, and then leave a review? also, how can i find out if he is operating under a different business name? I guess that was my other goal here

A business address is public incormation. If you have a business license you must have an address...

Do this. Don't get a bunch of spergs to harass him.
If he threatens to sue over it then you counter sue

corporations.pa.gov/search/corpsearch

His or similar is on there

so if he gave me an invoice with an address and phone number, is that supposed to be public information (assuming he was operating legit)

this seems pretty close...how can I be sure it's the right one? seems odd there are like no websites whatsoever with his business..no reviews, no nothing

I used to run a business doing investigations and background checks.

Post a photo of the invoice, and all information you have on him (including name and contact details) here along with a throwaway email address I can contact you on further. I'll see what I can find.

How did you find out about him in the first place?

Correct. Use the site I linked right above to see if it is him. As shown there, a business must have an address, even if it is a po box.

Not odd at all for shitty businesses that rip people off.

the address doesn't match...chesterville is near philly, I'm from pittsburgh...although it was made in 2008 I guess they could have moved across the state.

Well... guys like this can skirt that stuff. Even if you crush him on social media, he'll just make another company online with a new profile. Easy restart.

I've seen contractors make websites where they say "in business for 30 years" and I know for a fact they just started 6 months ago.

Scam contractors rely on lies to get jobs. It's surprisingly easy. They'll scam an area for 2 or 3 years before someone finally exposes them to the news or police.

cuz they are usually low IQ fucktards that act arrogant because they know some shitty fucking trade (e.g., plumbing)

It's not the most uncommon biz name, but odd enough to warrant looking into.

For real just tell him to make you whole, now, or you will be speaking with the state. If PA gets him for operating without a license it's gonna cost a hell of a lot more than 3k, and I'm sure he knows that.

You have plenty of recourse, all of it legal, don't resort to anything underhanded until all of it has been exhausted.

can you email me at [email protected] I can send you stuff there...just so I'm not publicly posting stuff since it appears to be his personal info

use tor and darkweb e-mail addresses at least c'mon son

funny, he claims 30 years of experience. constatnly

yeah I'm not down with doing anything illegal. I am just mainly trying to track down some more info so I can easily ding him on social media either by name or business name, etc. Like was mentioned. Since I'm having such a hard time finding him though I'm concerned he might be using fake stuff, also like mentioned

Go to the county court and county record websites and search his name and biz name there. People like this will have judgements recorded against them usually.

gee it would be a shame if someone got the mobile number for the business and made a bunch of craislist ads

>FOR SALE:
>124 Inch WideScreen TV
>Selling as unwanted gift - Item too large to fit inside new apartment
>Quick Sale Needed - $150

then it would be a shame if someone did that over, and over, and over, and over

Yep.

But the truth is, shit contractors usually don't make it 3 years.

If they have been in business for 10+ years they will have...

- a website
- reviews
- experience in residential and commercial
- professional business cards and paperwork

Dude I've been in business for 5 years and I have around 30 reviews, all 5-star except one.

it's a trash email, what more do I need, I don't want to do anything illegal, lol

lesson learned, obviously...not sure how to track the REAL person or business down then

my attorney searched for a criminal record already, but we couldn't find one. not to say he isn't getting to the point that he's using a fake name...but seems silly that he would have a phone number and put what seems to be his home address and then use a fake name

>all 5-star except one.

>nuchan pandering to this guy
fuck you, no one cares you got scammed
lurk moar
nypa retard

thanks for your input

>You have to stoop pretty low to take advantage of a family going through that kind of madness right now.

Are you looking for revenge?

1 BTC

took me a second to realize what you were saying

Chans have always helped based on the request and the anons lurking at the time. If you think every request for help results in "not ur personal army faggot" then you're the newfag.

>Part of me really wants to find some sort of link
gotchu senpai

not really
requesting help in doxing should always be met with nypa. thats why people like OP had to resort to just stating the facts and then faking surprise at the idea (usually from a newfag like yourself) that it might be a good idea to destroy their targets reputation. They then follow this up by again faking that they don't know how to dox which any 12 year old with a laptop can do.

I'm not sure exactly what you're stating, but I have zero interest in doing something that's illegal. I just suspect that the person might not be who they say they are. Curious if there were ways to find out...I don't want people signing them up for craigslist ads, etc.

perhaps Veeky Forums gets a lot of people who are just trying to screw some exboyfriend or gf I have no idea. that's not my intent.

then just dump any information you have
There are people who can find this guys details based on as little information as an email address. Or a fake business name.

my concern was the legality of posting that invoice - mainly because the address listed does not appear to be a business address.

i did post that junk email address...i figure thats more legal, as in someone is doing me a favor to see if its really that persons address or business address etc...rather than publicly posting and giving their information to the wolves to be harassed with craigslist ads and such. me personally, i dont care about that guy. anyone that stoops to that level to scam someone deserves what they get, within reason (mainly talking about tit or tat, i definitely dont advocate for someone to knee cap them). but i dont want to get in trouble for basically trying to harass the guy (as opposed to trying to find out information). hope that makes sense. im being genuine here, not feigning surprise or whatever.

if i was trying to be vindictive vs. trying to get more info, i would have just outed him immediately. i just gave up his business name because that cant possibly be illegal. but then when i looked on google street, the address listed on the invoice is a street address not a business.

Old fashioned way is beating the sorry ass out of it not just slashing his tires like a fucking pussy. Best to do both in this order. Pay him a fucking visit op you have his fucking address

Call recording software

wtf does you getting stiffed by a contractor have to do with me making 1000% gains?

Ahhhh you can't be helped, you dont want to beat him up, humiliate his ass because of legality? You think youre going to jail if you do yourself justice? Lmao I thought you said you we're in military

look up old 'life ruination' guide when you have his details. Favourite of mine is ordering free samples to his address. And some companies are bulk metal/scrap metal. So that guy will wake up to 100s of kg of metal dumped in his lawn that he will have to pay to remove.

I am, and I also possess a security clearance and I have 17 years in, all which would be flushed down the toilet with a criminal charge. Not worth it. I don't need to beat someone up to prove my masculinity. And I don't think hiring someone to do it or convincing someone to do it would prove it either. Quite the opposite.

I was lookin for ideas like someone posted earlier about the reviews, and trying to maybe see if he was who he said he was, so some ideas on that...I know it doesn't sound fancy, but I'd rather humiliate him that way. It's just not worth getting in trouble for...the law is fickle like that. Military pension for life or $3000, which is worth more? Only looking for up and up type things.

Pay a viral marketing campaign that highers cheap Philippines or Indians to FUD there business facebook page, etc

You're not beating him to prove your masculinity, you're doing it to show him how much you appreciate his services. Anyway law is indeed fucked there, stay strong and listen to this shit,

youtube.com/watch?v=PVOXBG5td1s&list=PLmHXUbOfkI2m8QYPQJlxuTmFqLTrY5REk

This.
Go roubd there with some of your boys and give him a lesson in respect. Beat the fuck out of him user.
