Nick Land on love (quote from The thirst for annihilation):

That the root of love is a thirst for disaster is exhibited throughout its erratic course. At its most elementary love is driven by a longing to be cruelly unrequited; fostering every kind of repellent self-abasement, awkwardness, and idiocy. /…/
One wastes away; expending health and finance in orgies of narcosis, breaking down one’s labour-power to the point of destitution, pouring one’s every thought into an abyss of consuming indifference. At the end of such a trajectory lies the final breakage of health, ruinous poverty, madness, and suicide.

Reza Negarestani on love (quote from Cyclonopedia):

Love empties all possibilities of recovery. Falling in love is a one way ticket to the end of health. Barthes suggests that love is cyclic. /…/ This cycle strikes me not as love but flirtation, flirtation with survival. /…/ But love’s sole enthusiasm lies in consuming every possibility of falling in love again. /…/ The Love-Recovery cycle that Barthes maps in his works is of course Proustian but deeply resembles the ever refining self-fertilizing cycle of Aristotle (nothing must be wasted as it is needed in the next phase of the cycle, the next love, the next recovery from the last love). /…/ Love is only thinkable as one and only one tyrannical possibility: falling in love once and for all.

>Pual Virilio

It's weird I keep stumbling across that guy's name

I read part of a book on anime (serious) that cited him heavily.
I considered using one of his books on war movies for paper
I think he has an epigraph in a Vollmann novel I read recently
And now this.
Conspiracy?

Its because he is such a speedy little fucker that he dominates everything.

BAZINGA

saw a far far (far) leftist post a Nick Land meme on my fb feed yesterday
bizarre

>book on anime (serious) that cited him heavily.
what book ?

The Anime Machine by Thomas LaMarre

I'm kind of hazy on what I read in it, but I'm pretty sure the author talked about Virilio's theories a fair bit.

I literally took a class on anime, manga, and jap video games at university

sounds pretty cool

thanks friend

>There's international socialism, or there's national socialism ... or you try to cut a deal with Skynet. ... That's basically it.
what did he mean by this?

nick land's writing is so fucking crazy that it makes me wonder what his life is like. what does he eat? does he have odd hygenic habits?

This guy wants to be Adorno so bad. But where Teddy's language is as playful as it is incisive, Niccolo is all stale, confused, and stolen metaphor--love is a "thirsty root" that also, somehow "takes a course" that we all know never did run smooth--and ponderous stringings of negative predicates.

Was probably a fun GM back in the day, though.

somehow I don't really think he wants to be Adorno

In his style, not his ideological bent.

I've already read Proust.

This shit is amateur hour.

NEOREACTION MY BASILISK NICK

Sleep tight, Dark Enlightenment

I was extremely surprised to find out he has a wife and children. Also, if you didn't know he lives in Shanghai and from his blogging it seems he likes mountain climbing. He probably spends most him time thinking and reading/writing though.

>implying neoreaction isn't the right wing Frankfurt School

it's the right finally embracing postmodernism
it's been long overdue
