Animal agriculture will be the death of me, and the death of us all

World Hunger: We Have Enough to Feed the World but Fuck You

• 80% of antibiotics sold in the US are used in animal agriculture
• Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions ( more than the combined exhaust from transportation [cars, planes, train ect, which make up a combined 13%])
• Livestock and their byproducts account for more than 32,000 million tonnes of CO2 per year- that’s half of the WORLD’S greenhouse gas emissions
• Livestock covers 45% of the Earth’s total land (a cause in rainforest depletion). As the population grows, we literally won’t have room for cows
• Methane (yes, from cow farts), is more destructive than CO2 on a 20year time frame
• Methane has a global warming potential 86x that of CO2 on a 20 year frame
• Even without fossil fuels, we will exceed over 565 gigatonnes of CO2 emissions by 2030, all by raising animals for slaughter
• We are currently growing enough food to feed 10 billion people (current population is 7.something billion[fuck u, use google])
• Growing crops for livestock takes 56% of the US water consumption
• 2,500 gallons of water is need to produce 1 pound of beef. And they ask us to take shorter showers? Fuck you
• 5% of US water is for private homes; 55% is for animal agriculture
• Don’t be a dick, go vegan. Or vegetarian or something.
Worldwide, cows drink 45 billion gallons of water and eat 135 pounds of grain each DAY! We have a high enough food yield to feed the whole planet, but we don’t, so that we can have fat fucking cows. We have starving people all over the world, THE GRAINS THAT WE FEED TO LIVESTOCK SHOULD BE FED TO PEOPLE INSTEAD. The meat/dairy industries are in close relations with pharmaceutical and chemical companies (hormone and antibiotic use). They are the one percent as well .

I buy extra meat at the store just so I can have the satisfaction of throwing it all out later on

The meat industry is awful, but buying local and from decent farms is fine. Meat shouldn't be an every day thing. A few times a week is best if at all.

Wow, this post is formatted like shit

We have meme arrows for a reason, my friend

World Hunger: Surely if the West Replaces their Meat with Gross Soy Bullshit, African Warlords Will be so Moved that They'll Stop Stealing Food From Their Own People

Okay
What do we do about it

>hurr we can grow infinite food and soil erosion isnt a thing at all hurr

breaking news; Humans don't use resources 100% effectively!!

Have fun growing veggies on completely desertified land faggot, you need livestock to trample grass flat and protect soil and water tables from baking to death under the sun

youtube.com/watch?v=vpTHi7O66pI

companies are sensitive to what you buy. if u dont buy their product, they cant stay in business. its called boycotting

There's no saving us. There's no getting off this rock. The global corps. will continue to breed antibiotic resistant viruses, pillage the amazon for soy farms, exploit third world nations and run civilization into the ground for a quick buck. You'll never convince people to focus on quality of life, humility, population control, etc. because people at large are socially conditioned to believe that muh nuclear family unit is all that is important. Your children will claw at one another's throats for clean drinking water and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

africian soils are so rich in Cu, Mg, Ni, P and many other elements that provide nutrients to crops. they crop they grow is lush. its not a desert

youre right.

The problem is Africa and Asia.

The man calling it a desert is an African ecologist who's been specialising in deserts and African desertification for sixty years, I think I'll take his word over yours.

>we wuz farmland n sheeiiiit

>We have starving people all over the world, THE GRAINS THAT WE FEED TO LIVESTOCK SHOULD BE FED TO PEOPLE INSTEAD.
No, fuck off.

So you are telling me some douchebag countries out there keep making way more people than its sustainable and I'm supposed to stop eating meat because the morons can't feed themselves?
How about no?

>Stop buying meat
>Meat industry sells to China instead
Pure brilliance

>will continue to breed antibiotic resistant viruses
Well since all viruses are immune to antibiotics...

>pillage the amazon for soy farms
Rain forest soils are TERRIBLE for agriculture/growing plants. Rainforests support their abundance of life through nutrient cycling, not rich soil. At least you didn't say we're cutting down the rainforests to make paper...

This

These extremists want to shut it down completely.

how horrible

the reason why poor countries have big families is because there are no child labor laws. children can work and thus provide more revenue for the family. children are viewed as a way of income and survival. therefore, ebola

They wuz until they killed or oppressed all the white farmers that knew how to farm.

>world hunger
What are the 70s like, OP?

the air is a bit cleaner

That's funny because the air has become cleaner since the 70s in the west

your web browser hasnt

>Zimbabwe used to have enough spare water to clean highways.
>In a fucking Savannah
>Kick out whitey.
>Suddenly no water for anyone, constantly begging predominately white nations for handouts.

I'm not even /pol/, but holy shit, how do you fuck up this badly? Did they just go around destroying infrastructure?

Because a massive block of green on white text is much easier to read, right?

green on light blue, stupid nigger

Follow me carefully, user:

>our species is overpopulating the planet (our habitat)
>overpopulation shows in ways such as overcrowding, depletion of resources, violence, etc
>as with other species, overpopulation is followed by a huge die-off (lemmings running off a cliff, lower birth rates, starvation, etc)
>our species is being prevented from properly stabilizing by artificially supporting populations with food from other regions

It sounds cold-hearted, but it is true. We have got to stop producing more and more food.
If we really, really overpopulate, we could just deplete our entire habitat and go extinct.

Veeky Forums: Amateur Sociology.

That sounds like bullshit

>we could just deplete our entire habitat

When will this meme fucking die?

Its just like the mercantilists in the 18th and 19th century that opposed capitalism. Mercantilists believed that the world has a finite amount of wealth and that hoarding any available wealth (land, gold, etc) for the sake of hoarding would increase the state's economic power... the development of Capitalism completely fucking destroyed this system because as it turns out there is no limits to wealth; wealth can be endlessly generated, value can be endlessly generated, because human thought exists independently of it. Wealth is not a zero-sum game. A pile of sand in 1900 has virtually no value, yet today that same pile of sand can be used to build enough microchips to power a computer; this vastly increased value exists entirely because the human mind has added it.

This same principle can be applied to population. There is no finite amount of "living space" on the Earth; this is not to say that the world is endless, only that we can continue to generate additional "living space" nearly endlessly through the development and application of knowledge. And as the "world" or sphere of human influence extends far beyond Earth over the next decades and centuries, this only becomes more true.

has that been manipulated, or did someone just happen to catch a dog doing weird things with its face?

But dat peak phosphorous tho.

>living space
I notice you did not say resources.

Nice argument

>overcrowding, depletion of resources

The worst crowding is in developed nations' big cities and the resource depletion is to serve the developed nations. It isn't the Africans who need to die off to combat this.

*Everyone* needs to be able to sustain themselves with local resources: cities, Africans, Southern California almond farmers, etc.

finally someone who isn't an alarmist idiot

>There is no finite amount of "living space" on the Earth

Whoa there, living in artificial structures and off-colony isn't living on the earth.

Transhumanism pls go

pbs.org/wgbh/nova/next/earth/going-vegan-isnt-actually-th/

overpopulation was never the issue. it was the lack of resources.

Chicken or egg, user.

>Worldwide, cows drink 45 billion gallons of water and eat 135 pounds of grain each DAY! We have a high enough food yield to feed the whole planet, but we don’t, so that we can have fat fucking cows. Absolutely disgusting comment, OP. Stop fat shaming the cows! Healthy at any size!

>Did they just go around destroying infrastructure?
Yes.

I love how meattards can't do jack shit to justify their stupid habits. Vegans are right on this subject, you should listen to logic and eat some beyond meat or impossible burger and get on with the times.

>because people at large are socially conditioned to believe that muh nuclear family unit is all that is important.
Go take your daddy issues somewhere else.

Also:

>implying people aren't having more and more broken families
>implying people aren't being encouraged to DUDE DIVORCE LMAO
>implying people are even being encouraged to start families in the first place
>implying people are even being encouraged to have long term relationships

Citation for all claimed facts, or shut the fuck up. Also, stop jumping between global and US-only claims, it makes your arguments look weak and shifty.

>135 lbs of grain each day

I call bullshit on that number. I've seen it bandied around here with nothing to support it.

Grain is fed to cattle to supplement or replace grass, which has much lower calorific value. By OP's numbers, grassfed cattle would be eating about 2/3 of their body weight in grass each day.

TL,DR; OP is a faggot.

Blah blah blah blah blah

Nice tinfoil hat OP.

Also, cows produce more than just beef.

Also, there is plenty of land.

Also, there is plenty of water.

Also, nobody gives a shit.

Dang I fell for the bait.

That's why you buy 4 acres of land and rotate the crops every year.
1 acre for tomatoes
1 acre for potatoes
1 acre for corn cause fuck carrots
1 acre for beef

Make lots of money have a nice diverse farm.

Replace corn with a legume (peas or beans) because they're a nitrogen fixing plant.

GOAT process would be:
Year 1: pasture/beef.
Year 2: legumes.
Year 3: grains.
Year 4: nightshades or gourds.

assuming everything you say is true OP, I can't express enough how much I don't give one single fuck

That image is blatantly misleading. Cattle ranching is that inefficient in places like Utah or Arizona where, surprise surprise, you can't fucking grow anything that's not sagebrush without doing more damage to the land than cattle would cause.

And this is coming from someone who doesn't even think that grazing on public land should be allowed at all.

It sounds like cows specifically are the problem. I'm fine not eating cow. Beef is disproportionately expensive.

yeah and? meat is fucking delicious.

Why don't we feed people to people?
The world would be a better place if the Chinese and Africans (who, let's face it, will eat anything) ate all the Indians and Middle Easterners.
Then we could feed the Polynesians to the Indonesians and the Chinese to the Africans, and suddenly there's less pollution and land stress from agriculture.

>there is no limit to wealth
>(land, gold, etc)

Except there is you fucking moron

>80% of antibiotics sold in the US are used in animal agriculture
We are more than capable of producing more if necessary.

>Animal agriculture is responsible for 18% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions
>Livestock and their byproducts account for more than 32,000 million tonnes of CO2 per year- that’s half of the WORLD’S greenhouse gas emissions
Good. We're going to run out of oil eventually, and we're going to need to keep the sky full of greenhouse gases to stave off the coming ice age.

>Livestock covers 45% of the Earth’s total land (a cause in rainforest depletion). As the population grows, we literally won’t have room for cows
The population is expected to cap out at around 12 billion, and most population growth is in third world countries which do not have as much access to meat. In any case, this only means that meat will become more expensive. But quite frankly, if I can afford it, I have a right to eat meat, dammit.

>Methane (yes, from cow farts), is more destructive than CO2 on a 20year time frame
>Methane has a global warming potential 86x that of CO2 on a 20 year frame
>Even without fossil fuels, we will exceed over 565 gigatonnes of CO2 emissions by 2030, all by raising animals for slaughter
Again, this is a good thing. Global warming is the reason we're not fucking covered in ice and snow right now.

>We are currently growing enough food to feed 10 billion people
We could grow more if we fucking terraformed Africa.

>Growing crops for livestock takes 56% of the US water consumption
>2,500 gallons of water is need to produce 1 pound of beef. And they ask us to take shorter showers? Fuck you
>5% of US water is for private homes; 55% is for animal agriculture
News flash: we have an infinite amount of water. You use 2500 gallons of water to make a pound of beef, that water then evaporates and comes back down as rain. If necessary, we can use electrolysis to convert sea water into fresh water.

Eh. It's actually the bacteria that form symbiotic nodules, but w/e. If we could find a way for them to grow on monocots we could have nitrogen fixing corn too.

What he might mean is that "living space" is defined as all the acreage required to support one person's life, and that since technology is making this space increasingly smaller, there is no "set" amount of living space. While there is a finite amount of physical space, there is not a finite number of ways to make use of that space.

honestly just reducing the amount of meat you eat can help a lot. Vote with your dollar

lol u tell him
