I only hold a BS in bio. When I graduated from university I got lucky as fuck and landed a job in regulation like three weeks out. I have 10 years experience now and make six figures.

Don't work on the bench or as a programmer. They're easy to replace and a guy without a degree can do your job. Knowing GHS and certain products you could make much more money than the guy who makes the chemicals.

Actually, I think it has to do with the nature of engineers, mathematicians, basic STEM people in general that this board attracts. In addition to many being on the autistic spectrum (of which a major characteristic is lack of empathy and poor social skills), many people of that nature who are NOT on the spectrum tend to suffer from similar diagnostic characteristics.

Interestingly enough, prenatal testosterone levels are linked to predisposing people to exhibiting interests in mechanical/technical/systematic things rather than social/people things. It's not just a meme or stereotype that those attracted to science and math are socially awkward - there's lot's of evidence that it's biological. This social awkwardness and inability to empathize has a lot to do with why "smart" people (in the realm of math and science) tend to be cynical, anti-social assholes.

There was extensive LSD research done decades ago, though things like fMRI and PET scans obviously didn't exist, and since then research on LSD in the US has become a legal nightmare, hence why the most recent study you're citing was done overseas.

Not to mention the massive amount of skepticism that needs to be regarded towards loosey-goosey interpretations of brain-scans. All they can reveal are areas (at least for fMRI) that have increased oxygen-flow; a consequence of more neural activity. However, the data only reveals, first off, information on biggish sections (decently small fraction of a cubic centimeter), so any important neural information too small to capture is lost. Additionally, regions of the brain aren't exactly distinct cookie-cutters of emotion or language or rational thinking; there is *not* one-to-one mapping of specific emotions or processes to only one section of the brain, so saying "oh how cute, the acid folk reverted to a more child-like state of mind" is popularized BS, since they truly cannot know that.

That said, they can know quite a bit from these studies, but they're not the panacea of ignorance regarding the brain, especially for things as complex as drugs.
