western art music tradition is the only correct answer. aka "classical music"

GY!BE
Pat the Bunny
Burroughs's recordings
Murubutu
Peter Sotos (ow, the edge, I really don't want to name him)
Chelsea Wolfe
The Parlour Trick
Le Luci della Centrale Elettrica
Creaturine Magiche
Ryan Adams
Ornette Coleman
MACH 1.67

Whatever you want really

If you want to discuss books and literature with plebs, there's always tinychat / 4chantlit

I love Newsom's music, I find her to be the best female songwriter of the last 30 years, but then again I'd probably be considered a turbopleb by /mu/'s standards so what do I know...

Ranked from most Veeky Forums to least Veeky Forums
Japanese power metal
European power metal
US power metal

All other genres are pleb

The Magnetic Fields - 69 love songs
The Fall - The wonderful and frightening world of the fall (reminds me of J.G. Ballard)
The Divine Comedy - Casanova
Rufus Wainwright - The song 'out of the game' is a lit anthem
Randy Newman - Sail away

Also, Fiona Apple - The idle wheel...

The Pogues.

probably some semi-obscurant shit like stockhausen or maybe some modern avant-garde jeez i dont know man

Stereolab

Young Thug.

I like instrumentals, especially the sageaphone

Stockhausen is not semi obscurantist shit it's just shit
His stuff was built around spectacle and shock and awe anyway hardly obscurantist

examples?

The Fall, if you take "most Veeky Forums music" to mean 'literate and informed by literature', though MES has what a lot of memesters here would call entry-level taste: Camus, William Blake, Malcolm Lowry, Lovecraft, Chandler, Nabokov, George Eliot...

Ironically his taste in music is very /mu/ but I rarely see The Fall mentioned there.

Beyond that, as most people on Veeky Forums don't actually read, I imagine a lot of the pseuds here are the same with other art forms and listen to Schoenberg occasionally then say "I'm really into contemporary classical music."

...

the kinks

there's better better avant-prog out there

The Fall, absolutely. MES's career is even more typical of a writer's than a singer's - early, earnest periods, experimentation and change and then a divisive late period which is solid, divisive and lyrically more sparse.

Seen them twice in the last two months, the best there is.

Opeth - at least the acoustic stuff.

like what

Greensleeves

Univers Zero
Henry Cow
Art Zoyd
Aksak Maboul
Late Stormy Six

without counting a whole slew of zeuhl bands

This and traditional folk music.

Franz Schubert's Lieder:
- Die schöne Müllerin
- Winterreise

They're alright, Art Zoyd is not my thing, I appreciate it but I just don't enjoy it. Henry Cow is juvenile IMO. I have't heard of Aksak Maboul so thanks for the recommendation

>Henry Cow is juvenile IMO

Baffling because to me they're just the best.
