Man, I really don't want him to die

Man, I really don't want him to die.

Anyone wanna look up when his dad and granddad died so we can ballpark this? Maybe get a pool going? A basket of bananas for the winner?

Pynchon will probable pass his title to a certain talanted friend of his, so that we will never know of his death.

Ok his dad lived to 88, we have about another decade to go

He'll be fine

Selfish.

And that certain talented friend was supposed to be DFW.

Well spooked.

DFW is the perfect example of idolizing someone too much for their fame and talent that the mimicry brings the work down. He stood in the shadow too much.

You know, this is a good plot for a book.
Pynchon is on the verge of dying and tries to convince the only author capable of producing quality fascimiles of his work not to kill himself.

What happens at the end?

Does DFW survive? Does he fake his suicide in order to start publishing new works as Thomas Pynchon or what?

He dies, Tao Lin saves the day.

We need to write this book.

Franzen kills him and makes it look like a suicide so that pynchon will offer him the job instead, which he does, but as franzen writes the novel, he peppers it with clues that amount to a confession. Pynchon begins to see the pattern, but he dismisses it as just paranoia. Eventually too many coincidences pile up and he goes into full detective mode, throwing himself at the puzzle franzen's embedded in the novel. Finally he has enough evidence to prove franzen did it, but its too late, he's taken out in the middle of the night. Little did he know franzen was just a pawn. The conspiracy went straight to the top.

Nice, you should write more if not lazy.

Two things I really wish we could see from Pynchon before he checks out. Two novels, on the shorter end of the scale of length. Another doorstopper or two would be welcome, but that's too much to ask. I'd like him to relax and have some fun with these.

Anyway, here's what I'd like to see:

1. A furry fiction space opera adventure.
2. A compendium of non-fiction essays and musings.

My apologies in advance, I'm not trying to be baitish, in spite of my first suggestion. I don't even pretend to suggest either would be regarded as worthy of literary fame. I do believe his fans, and I count myself as one, would be rabidly pleased.

>furry
I would still read it but wouldn't masturbate to it.

I hope Pandemonium of the sun is a real book and not an old name for Against the Day.

>Little did he know franzen was just a pawn.
And here my smile faded.

There's a strong correlation between what is regarded a furry fiction and pornography. I am *not* suggesting he write a fap-fic. There are straightforward examples of furry fiction sans the sleaze. Granted, they're somewhat rare, and less popular.

And it's not like Pynchon can't smithy his written way around a hawt scene or two. Such could be done, with a steamy scene included, without porn being the focus.

I'm not kidding here. I'd love to see him pull it off - and have a shitload of fun doing so.

Wouldn't it be too politically charged, even unintentionally, animals an obvious and unavoidable metaphor?

Uh ... right ... not something I considered. Interesting idea to blindside with.

I think ... well, I think the problem would be pulling the work away from becoming an absolute farce. There would be tension between a cartoonish presentation, and brutal reality. The dynamic range required would be a bitch to pull off successfully.

I think we can agree Pynchon has the well honed talent to pull something like this off. All this without going into the super serious, all encompassing, breathtaking tome territory he's usually known for.

Call it a bit of faith on my part, but I has me my faith a writer in his stage of his career could do this thing.

When there's no reason for it other than your kink, it's pornography.
Either way, it's extremely unlikely to happen and you're just going to have to settle for jerking it to the pig suit castration scene, the dog fuck scene from ATD, and the mechanical duck in M&D.

Furry fiction / essayist promoter speaking here ...

The post I am pointing to is a damn good suggestion. Sure, I'd read this, if produced. So, my problem here is not that it's a bad idea. It's just that this sort of thing is more of the same.

Something different. Something creative. Something as a challenge. Something fun.

And some fur.

That's all I'm asking.

The Theign / Cyprian dynamic was far hotter than any you cited. To be fair, and to repeat, I'm not looking for the pornography.

But I'll bow out at this point. It's just a wistful set of suggestions. Not a debate.

Kill yourself, pathetic degenerate.

Your wisdom is not the first reception I have acquired along these lines, and I give to it the devotion due.

Albeit, slowly.

Until then, with the greatest respect and devotion, I am and shall remain your internet friend.

DFW said many times that he wasn't trying to be Pynchon and disliked the comparison.

I know his family and he died in 2001, all his books after M&D were ghostwritten by a couple of guys. He was sepulted in Italy for some weird reason. Anyways the family will anounce his death in 2018 and release a 'last book' that was also ghostwritten, they will milk Pynchon hard as fuck but they are waiting for now.

Anyone else have any last wishes?

If this turns out to be true I will eat a bowl of Wasabi straight up.

I still haven't finished Against the Day, after 10 years.

i didn't want Jack Vance, Frank Herbert and Iain Banks to die, but fucking guess what?

Shame about that.

Took me a little over five weeks at a leisurely pace. There is a section, perhaps an eighth of the book in total, after the halfway point and before the three quarter point where it drags on a bit. All the rest was engaging and fun.

I still haven't finished Gravity's Rainbow and I started in 2011 when I discovered the meme trilogy on Veeky Forums.

Nice trips. Also what have ya written?

umberto eco managed to die recently too
did you at least remembered him, lit

>sepulted
