Are comics literature?

are comics literature?

could a comic win a nobel prize?

your picture explains it adequately

They are related to literature but their own thing. I could see a graphic novel winning the Nobel Prize in Literature one day, but it'd have to be by a third-worlder.

>could a comic win a nobel prize?
Definitely could. Nobel prizes don't go to works of literary merit.

I'm not talking about mandchild garbage.
Letters are basically just codified drawings, there's no diference between an ideogram like chinese and a drawing.

Drawings are a codified language, there's no reason why drawings couldn't express some kind of deep message, having into account comics also use language.

I want to be a writer, but I also love drawing.
I can't stand manchild garbage from japanese and americans, but I still want to make some comics.

I want to make a "liga de los supermamertos" (because I'm taco, superliberal league or some shit) where it's basically a critique of socialism and comunism using the same type of story golden comics had or american cartoons used to have, about some liberal and clueless students having stupid dumb aventures to take down their country capitalist system.

>I'm taco
You're golden, m8.

Read pic related, though. You should be able to find a download.

what makes being a thirld worlder some advantage?

...

>Drawings are a codified language

true, but cartoonish comics can't be taken seriously, at least i can't take them seriously. even if there was a serious message. but a comic made with RL pictures, would be another thing; or not, idk. worth experimenting

They love to keep it diverse, and oppression is always in.

they're manchildrens.

It's about the message, have you seen that stick figure comic that Veeky Forums loves to posts (kchd?)

If by "diverse" you mean Scandinavian, then yes.

Comics arent literature but they are art.

They have their own awards and accolades, dont even worry about it.

And once AGAIN you people need to stop thinking "literature" = quality; a goddamn Mormon pamphlet qualifies as literature, all the term means is that it pertains to the written word

xkcd is trash but it won a Hugo Award.

>sweden
are the maymays real?

but comics can blurry the line and they use written texts.

shidpostig :-DDD

>they're manchildrens.
tough shit is for comics. just because /a/ is full of spastic foreveralones doesn't make anime Veeky Forums either. go make /co/ better if you have a problem with it and stop shitting up our board and telling the rest of the manchildren it's fine to follow your lead.

>but comics can blurry the line and they use written texts.
Literally just get off the board and go read

Many USAmericans are eternally upset about the fact that "high-brow" international recognition still eludes most of their own world's cultural output. Aside from that, just politics as usual.

MAUS won the Pulitzer prize.
I could imagine comics winning more prestigious accolades once the content of said comics is more deserving. Right now it's just cape-shit, space-shit, and action-shit. There are a few very well-written comics and that number is only going to increase

>Right now it's just cape-shit, space-shit, and action-shit.
There have been comics that don't fall into these categories for decades. Most european comics cannot be described by any of this, either. No, they're not fringe. Only very few like Maus and Persepolis have gotten mainstream attention, but there are tons more, both better and worse. I find them all awful but you don't know your shit

No because comics are their own medium and should be respected as such. Film and music aren't literature either.

A significant amount of well-known non-big 2 comics don't fit those descriptions either. Only someone who's just ventured into comics could make that statement.
