Considering math degree?

I'm considering a mathematics degree, but I'm afraid of being broke and unemployed, as is the case with a lot of chemistry related fields in the U.S. What would my options be with a degree in mathematics?

Do you know how to program? Are you willing to learn coding in your free time?

Pair it up with a real degree like computer science, engineering, etc.

>real degree like computer science

CS degrees are garbage.

What's up with /sci and CS degrees?

I think you should work with a computer related field, that is if you don't want to be unemployed with a math degree.

And since you mentioned I'm wondering if the unemployment of chemistry related fields is only high in American or if it's high in most countries as well. What do you guys think?

applied math

Veeky Forums is a bunch of fucking autists, that's what's up

I am a CS student, and it's garbage

Because you can learn cs on your downtime while doing real degrees

Not for industry. Don't follow the meme garbage on Veeky Forums.

That feel when I decided to major in computer engineering so that I can do computer science and not be made fun of by Veeky Forums.

you can do CS but still be doing almost any kind of math you want.
Veeky Forums seems to thing CS only means being a code monkey

man, i feel really bad for people that get degrees where they have to go out and search for jobs

i'm a europeon studying medicine, chose it for the sole purpose of not having to look for a job and send applications etc, because there aren't enough doctors and hospitals can use people

It's OK we don't judge people over their sexual orientation in this board.

...

>you can do CS but still be doing almost any kind of math you want.
>Veeky Forums seems to thing CS only means being a code monkey

Not sure if trolling or actually a CS major

it's ok, we're working on a neural network right now so we can generate shitposts without human assistance

>neural networks
wew lad, you mean interconnected software defined hysteresis nodes.

Also, you faggots don't understand shit of what you're doing anyway. You just slap together 10 layers of nodes, let it look at some gay furry porn collections and act all genius-like when it recognises you as a massive fucking faggot.

Remember everyone. Do the opposite of what Veeky Forums tells you.

CS can get you a job easy. How competent you are will determine your salary. That's a really good fucking deal compared to my field (chem)

make sure to take the following at a minimum:
numerical analysis
linear programming
number theory
cryptography
pde
probability
statistics

if you like finance:
actuarial math
math of finance

your goal should be to finish as a numerical c/python/matlab coder. you will just be a different type of cs guy
keep in mind many entry code monkey jobs say - comp sci degree of math/physics/engineering degree
i did math and minor in ee - lots of matlab programming
i work as a fixed income matlab programmer
of course where you get your degree matter
one from yale is better than one from shit state

That's what they said about business majors back in the '90s.

Are there reasons to choose degree in mathematics other than to do mathematical research and teaching in future?

I'm wondering this too, is there a point to getting a mathematics degree if you aren't planning on going into academia?

Considering most math majors don't go into academia, yes. You could google these things and read actual advice not from Veeky Forums, talk to your advisor who knows every job people get when they graduate, or talk to former students.
