Questions for students

>What is your degree?

>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?

>Are you doing well at university?

>Do you have an active social life?

>>What is your degree?
I have a math bachelor degree and go for a math master degree.
>>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
None, outside of university I waste away my life being a depressed piece of shit.
>>Are you doing well at university?
I study the day before the exam. That's good enough to get best grades.
>>Do you have an active social life?
It's rather superficial after I lost my gf. Most people turn out to be shallow and boring, so they're not really worth it. It's hard to find good friends in math because there are way too many immature "nerds" and literal autists.

>I study the day before the exam. That's good enough to get best grades.

how

I focus for a few hours, read the lecture notes, get all the proofs and ideas in my short term memory, take the exam, get an A, and afterwards forget everything again. Pretty shitty technique tbqh.

>>What is your degree?
BS in mathematics... I don't have it yet.

>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?

Some weeks I never study so I don't know how to put this. Well, assuming that in this week I have a test then I will study for that test for about 1 hour. 1 hour per test, and I usually do so at the library when I arrive at university.

So even if I have two tests the same day I still only study for 1 hour, carefully dividing my time between the two subjects.

At most we get like 3 tests a week (almost never, usually only finals) so the most I study is 3 hour a week but if I average this with the other weeks I literally study nothing then I am sure this figure would apporach 0. I study 0.001 hours a week, I guess.

>Are you doing well at university?

The only grade I have earned for my math classes has been As. In english I also have gotten full As but unfortunately in spanish I have some Cs and Bs but that doesn't even matter as these are not core classes.

You can pretty much say that I only get As.

>Do you have an active social life?

I watch anime and play videogames with irl friends and that counts as a social life. Also had a girlfriend not too long ago but it had to end because she stopped being attractive to me.

>What is your degree?
Psychology

>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
About 5 hours a week, I should probably try for more though

>Are you doing well at university?
Last semester I ended with a 3.3 GPA, academic distinction award, etc

>Do you have an active social life?
Only online,

Geology

Nearly all geology is class work. Classes are about 12 hours a week each because of extended lab hours with some of your weekends completely taken up by classwork. Unless you don't count field trips as class? We can sometimes leave at 3 pm on a Friday and not return till 8 pm on Sunday and typically do so 3-4 weekends a semester because classes stack with shorter trips in between. For instance my Geological Hazards class took 6 full weekends from me while my Structure and Tectonics class took only 1 weekend but had many smaller trips during the week.

So I don't honestly know how to answer that question.

I have a 3.6 GPA.

No. I hate dealing with people off the internet.

>What is your degree?
Physics

>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
During undergrad, I spent most of my time on campus in the communal physics room just working on problems and studying. It wasn't uncommon to arrive at 10am and stay until midnight. Not all of that time was spent studying: I took breaks and shit to eat and relax. But in my last year I'd say I spent a good 8 hour work day getting shit done for classes and making sure I understood what I was supposed to be learning.

>Are you doing well at university?
Only twice did I ever get less than an A in a physics class. My gpa wasn't great because of non-science classes I had to take, but I stood out among my graduating class and I got into a good phd program. What more can one ask for?

>Do you have an active social life?
Yes, but all my friends were also science or engineering majors. I spent a decent amount of time drinking or smoking with them, and had a semi-active social life outside of the semester. From my own personal experience, you can either do a great fucking job in undergrad science and make a path for yourself into a phd program (or land a good job) OR you can maintain a romantic relationship with another human being. I have not seen someone do both. In fact the ones I have seen manage anything other than a short term relationship all suffered academically for it. It's not everyone's goal to get into graduate school, but that shit takes time and dedication that you can't also give to another person.

So yes you can have a social life if you're not an autist, but it will be the kind of social life that mainly involves going to a bar with your classmates. Or hiking. That's always popular among science minded people.

>What is your degree?
Bachelor in computer science
>>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
It depends on my mood. Sometimes 0h, sometimes 6-7h a day. And I like it a lot
>>Are you doing well at university?
Yes, I think so.
>Do you have an active social life?
No, I don't like people. If I'm not in front of my desk, I spend my free time with nature.

Was there anyone in your class/es you looked up to? How were they like?

>3.3
>distinction

I looked up to my professors and to my adviser. The lower classmen looked up to me because I had my shit together and made myself known around the building (I was president of our chapter of the society of physics students for a few years). My graduating class was like 6 people, and they were all my friends. I respected them, in that their actions or work demanded respect, but I wouldn't say I looked up to them. That sort of implies that you aren't equals.

I'll never look up to anyone my age or younger.

>What is your degree?
Math
Been working on a farm ever since because I can't stand academia (although I'll probably return next year).

>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
I usually did 10 hours a week for STEM classes although most of my "studying" involved learning things by necessity to complete an assignment.

>Are you doing well at university?
I did extremely well my first two years and then went full apathy my last two years.

>Do you have an active social life?
I've had friends here and there. Mostly, no. It's, OK though. I'm slowly becoming more and more at peace with myself.

>I'll never look up to anyone my age or younger.

Why?

It's an ego thing. I'm not afraid to admit that.

That's alright, I'm not here to judge you.

I'm a physics undergrad student myself now, do you think you can give me some tips on how to be a student more or less like you? Like top of the class stuff.

>math
>approximately forty hours a week (not for class, just my own projects), but maybe three hours a week for actual classes
>I have 4.0 GPA
>I have a girlfriend with whom I spend a lot of time, plus I get coffee and have discussions with mathematicians from the nearby uni and with my other intellectual friends. Also, Pokémom GO is a decent social outlet.

>>What is your degree?
Chemistry
>>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
1-2 per week
>>Are you doing well at university?
Yes
>>Do you have an active social life?
No

>>What is your degree?
Molecular biology

>>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
Depends on the week, my mood, my responsibilities... Anything from 0 to 3-4 per day, or all day long if something important is upcoming.

>>Are you doing well at university?
yeah

>>Do you have an active social life?
Mostly on holidays, Christmas, Easter and summer. Otherwise not at all. Seems like the internet has replaced that need completely over time.

autofellatio

I can do that

>What is your degree?
3+2 program, so I'm getting a B.S. in Physics and a B.S. in Computer Science, possibly Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, though.

>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
per day is about two in the morning and probably 3-4 in the afternoon. This is all pomodoro technique by the way, so in reality it's not actually that much time that I'm directly studying.

>Are you doing well at university?
3.9 GPA

>Do you have an active social life?
I have Aspergers. I'm friends with only who I really like. I do have an active social life, mostly with clubs/competitive teams I'm in and personal relationships.

not related to the OP, but don't worry about where you go to school. Go to the cheapest place. Unless you get into something like the top 10 schools, nobody is going to care where you went. Trust me. I've talked to so, so many people who transferred from "average" state universities that nobody cares about to top universities like UPenn etc and they always tell me that the difference is minimal, just that there are more rich kids with connections because of their daddy.

Doing STEM is great because as long as your program is accredited, it makes no difference. You'll be taught just about the same things in any universities ABET accredited undergraduate programs.

feels pretty good going to university for free and not falling for memes.

>What is your degree?
Mathematics
>How many hours a day (or a week)
>do you study (not counting classes)?
Nearly every waking hour.
>Are you doing well at university?
Doing okay, 3.5+ GPA
>Do you have an active social life?
What is this "social life" of which you speak?
Your words are strange to me!

>Nearly every waking hour
Why so much and how can you do it?

Alright I'll give it a go
>degree
Computer engineering, haven't decided on a focus yet
>Hours spent studying
About 4-5 a week during my summer classes, but during the regular year usually 10-15. Actually nevermind, actually studying stays around 4-5 hours, but god damn does homework take forever.
>Are you doing well?
Lol no. Barely scraping by, but there's a reason for it. I transferred from a community college and had no bump with GE's most anons have, so my hard classes and poor performance early on makes me have a 2.5 GPA
>Do you have an active social life
Nope. Near complete shut-in. But I enjoy it. I play a lot of overwatch in my downtime.

>why so much
he's a brainlet.

>What is your degree?
ICT (Computer) Engineering with a focus for Embedded Systems.
>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
During the end of the last semester I was studying about 10 - 15 hours a week (but only on one of the more difficult courses, rest were easy).
>Are you doing well at university?
I'm doing ok, slightly above average I believe.
>Do you have an active social life?
Not really, although I do enjoy spending time with friends, I spent a lot of my free time in a start-up.

Forgot to mention, havent finished my (bachelor) degree.

>What is your degree?
MSc Sport Psychology - meme degree and I wish I hadn't paid thousands to study it, but c'est la vie

>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
It varies depending on the amount of work I have. As little as half an hour per day if work is light, and as much as 12 hours per day if I have deadlines to meet. ~4 hours per day is probably average.

>Are you doing well at university?
Been cruising at distinction (>70%) all year, would have to fuck up quite a bit not to achieve that now.

>Do you have an active social life?
Not really, but I work Friday and Saturday nights so I was never going to. Play in a sports team, and that's about it.

>Degree
science, Chem Major
>Hours
around 26, depends on how my lab goes
>How am I going
Get credits, I could do better but ehh
>social life
Yea I'm active, to much. Hence the occasional bad mark explaining credits. ie: I went to a 21st the day before my Phys chem exam

>What is your degree?
M.Sc, Applied Maths/Mathematical Physics
>How many hours a day (or a week) do you study (not counting classes)?
Around 10 maybe? Should be more, has been more during my break so far.
>Are you doing well at university?
I'm doing ok, 1st class honours avg atm (82) but trying to get the APA which apparently needs an 85-86 avg.
>Do you have an active social life?
Sort of, nowhere near as active as before I got into grad school thats for sure. Have a gf, see my friends every now and then.

Oi lads,

I'm intelligent (IQ of 150 Cattell B III/well-developed logical reasoning skills, good recall and have a proficiency at making links between abstract elements) and have a broad but limited knowledge base, spanning cosmology, particle physics, biochemistry, biology, anthropology, linguistics, languages, medicine, evo. psychology, neuroscience, computer science and perhaps a few more areas of study.

However, as you can imagine I have not developed specialist knowledge in any of these fields, despite having acquired three BSc degrees (linguistics, biochemistry and South Asian languages) and an MSc (psychology & neuroscience).

It’s practically impossible to specialise in multiple areas.

So, what should I specialise in?

Ignore job opportunities and income potential, as I have no need for either of those; my family is wealthy enough for me to sit around learning all day and I have income from three properties that I was gifted on my 21st birthday.

Come back when you're at least 18.
