A woman will reject a man for the size of his penis even if he is perfect for her in every other respect. The immediate reason for this is not so difficult to understand (sex, pleasure) but why has this become such an important factor?
Wouldn't this lead to the most penis-selective women choosing sub-optimal men and thus decreasing their genetic fitness?

These are the thoughts of a man who has never had a girlfriend. Women caring about penis size is a meme made to make you feel bad. I'm sure some do but its a small minority.
Once a man is about to have sex with a woman, the proportion of women who will break off the engagement for that reason is small. The evolutionary disadvantage conferred by small penis size is probably on the same order of magnitude as random genetic drift, and certainly much smaller than any evolutionary advantages that got the man in bed with the woman in the first place.
