There are a few good threads on Veeky Forums, but they are mostly ignored because no one is fun posting in them. Pretty much everything else is a gorilla post, pop-sci post, and recently posts with an obvious undertone of /pol/. I watched a fucking thread about how "blacks are obviously genetically skewed towards being less intelligent than whites" reach 400 replies the other day while other threads I was participating in got pruned after a few hours. So that pretty much tells you a bit about how we're doing right now when the average thread gets ~50 or so posts unless it drags out over a few days.

Maybe on fringe occasions. Veeky Forums has a lot of cryptoshit and kids riding meme stocks.

History isn't scientific. Most of it is subjective contradicting claims. There's often no way to know what really happened. All it really does is provide a way for people to write up myths and legends and prop up heroes and villains and as the main characters. It's telling that in many circles texts like the Bible are used as a historical reference.

If history was actually about truth then it wouldn't be recorded the way it is. I claim that history is actually about giving people a basis upon which they can believe whatever they want to believe. Any event or struggle you feel strongly about you can find books and historical references that justify your perspective on the thing.

Regardless, theres a huge religious community and its surprising why there isn't a dedicated board for religious topics. That would also stop them from inserting some random-bullshit-religious-claim to fill the holes currently left out by science.

You don't understand what history is, no it isn't scientific, but it is a fundamental human thing to have a study of the past for many reasons.

People try to rely on sources, discuss the sources, understand how people lived before, explain, talk about previous events etc.

You form a hypothesis of what happened. Like you said you can't know what really happened, which makes it pretty hard. Though you look at various recorded text's, artifacts, etc., cross-reference them, and you then fill in the gaps. Kinda like looking at a black hole. You can't know for sure if it's really there, but you use the environment around it, to piece together some clues and infer it's existence. What makes it even more difficult since you can't really mathematics history, you basically have to rely on this kind of detective work.

No. My issue is that I am not from any of the countries I've lived in. As a result I have studied and been taught history from many different perspectives. I've seen the histories of different countries having completely different recordings of events (often even visible on wikipedia articles of different languages). In some cases groups will continue to echo claims that were later on discovered to be false (eg. a PhD student fabricating an interview in order to complete their dissertation).

From my experience, people don't actually care about historical truth. They only care about finding a group identity that they can agree with and identify with. Conceptually it is noble and different from religion, but in practice it is often no different.

It's incredibly flimsy evidence though. The argument was that you can find "evidence" supporting just about any claim. This makes it so that hypothesis like the one you mentioned are often unfalsifiable which is one of the distinguishing features of pseudoscience.

To be fair, 800BC is fairly recent and many mathematical theorems were already common knowledge throughout the world by then. This claim isn't actually that much of a stretch unless you put some really strict distinctions for what you believe qualifies as algebra.
