Tfw someone asks plans for this weekend

>tfw someone asks plans for this weekend
>can't say reading because they'll make fun of you

i can't even talk to people. none of them want to talk about books. they assume I'm some quiet autist because I don't talk but if they would just talk about books, I'd be hard to shut up.

>tfw 21st century

How do we get people to read proper literature again?

who cares? i read it, that's good enough for me.

I do as well...but at times, I wish someone would come up to me and ask about Dracula, Lolita, the Diary of Manfred von Richthoven, Ayn Rand or the Brothers Karamazov.

I enjoy books as they are but the small speck of human companionship within me is only for talking about books and long story short...no one reads them.

Every day I'm surrounded by people that talk about Game of Thrones. The show, of course. None of them even bothered to read the books. They just go off "ooo titties ooo yessss oh my fav character died le sad face #redwedding". I poured hours upon hours to read those hefty books.

What the fuck is wrong with these people? They just don't read. They think they can read a synopsis, some facebook posts, and wiki pages and call it a day.

It's as if they are choosing to be ignorant and ill-informed.

Top kek. Isn't there a larger percent of the world's population being literate now than any other point in history? Even in the developed world, when my dad was a kid, I doubt there were as many kids around him reading books bc rugby and drinking culture

>looking at selection of hesse books at barnes and noble
>qt comes up to ask what I'm looking at
>internally roll my eyes and assume it's gonna be an /r/books type
>mfw she's a classics major at a solid school
>mfw we talk about epic poems for two hours
>mfw taking her out next week

I've never seen someone try this hard to spin their elitism as a form of victimization.

>working at McDonald's
>reading crime and punishment in break room
>cute physics student Romanian girl comes up to me and starts talking about how much she loves
Dosto
And to think if I wasn't such a coward we would be going out right now. Cucked by my own inadequacy.

>again

>>mfw taking her out next week
Almost fell for it.

ah yes the old "bookstore pick-up". I do it every week, hesse works great for it even though I haven't even read him

Some people who post on Veeky Forums still live relatively normal lives, user. This isn't /r9k/. Veeky Forums is probably one of the most normal boards.

Consider me envious. There's a popular bookstore in my city which also has a restaurant, and is open real late on the weekends, when it's full of chicks hoping to be seen there. Many have that ostensibly-disinterested but ultimately-hopeful wandering look as they try to make eye contact with other people, but I'm too autistic to ever do anything more than just look at books and leave.

I'm brave enough not to project delusions on myself to others. They know exactly who I am and make no false judgments.

Disgusting.
Why the fuck would normies come here?

To feel superior.

This is not a difficult concept.

I'm feeling some serious secondhand regret right now. Is it too late to get in touch with her?

Well that's pathetic.
He would just embarass himself anyway.

people have always been into partying instead of reading

Honestly i thought I was a misanthropist and extremely introverted till I started my postgraduate studies at a top university.

Suddenly I could talk easily to everyone around me, was popular and enjoyed socialising.

Make an effort to find where you belong OP.

Expertly executed humblebrag.

>humblebrag

Take this upthumb, good sir.

DELETE THIS

i come here because i love dank memes

>Admitting you're smart isn't allowed.

Okay.

What is your IQ?

121

>normal
You can do whatever you want with your personal life, but don't shove it in my face.

Fuck of with this statistic

Yes, more people are reading books now than ever but the books they read shouldn't be classified as reading literature. Thank god I can discus literature with all the single moms that get wet from reading erotica. Thank god that I can discuss literature with all the "I read book Xd" girls that think they're hot shit because they read the latest YA shit. Thank god I can discus literature with all the nu-male cucks that read science fiction and Stephen King and consider themselves "above average intelligence". Thank god I can discus literature with "literate" people that have read Game of Thrones and Crime and Punishment for an assignment. Thank god I can discus literature with the pseudos that read the Republic, think they have actually read the Greeks, then read the most popular book by Nietzsche without really understanding anything or provoking a single thought and then saying that they're somehow philosophical or smart.

I swear to god, I had people tell me they read a lot and are "above average intelligence" (a phrase that so many people love nowadays) because they read a lot of Manga (nothing wrong with manga), it's pathetic.

Yes, more people read then 300 years ago, that's fucking obvious, nowadays everybody learns to read and everybody has money to buy books and public libraries are everywhere. Beforehand only the rich, powerful and the Scholars were able to read a lot, but if you were in this class you were at least able to discuss topics that weren't the latest Television show, softcore porno vampire books or cuck numale stories.

Ya... yer not smart sorry. I'm at least three points higher.

>Fuck of

Is this a very subtle troll?

Oh look he made a typo! Look now his entire argument is worthless because he didn't type the second f! Yea look at me I'm not a fucking pseudo at all haha I have read 1 book by Hesse and 1 book by Nietzsche and 3 books by Dostoyevski I'm smart I love the articles by I love fucking Science on Facebook! I always like them and learn so much science from them, man I'm such a nerd haha. Did you know that I have an IQ of 121 and that I'm above average intelligence? Yea that's right!

English is my fourth language and calling someone out for making a typo because he types fast is just pathetic.

>projecting harder than imax

>falling for it

Nham dis is gud pasta

Tell me how smart you are you fucking retard, just tell me. I bet you go to a "Top College" or "Ivy league" and will have a "80k annual salary" after finishing it. Pseudos are all the same, they'll find their place when they work in a field that is unrelated to their useless 6 year English degree.

>nowadays everybody learns to read

Factually incorrect.

>tfw you are pseud this guy ks talking about
I read 4 dialogues by Plato than i jumped to Nietzche beyond Good and Evil and i dont understand first reference he made

Actually yes they do, everybody, even developing countries out side of fucking Africa have high literacy %. Peru has 94% for example, Uruguay 98%.

>Why the fuck would normies come here?
Because as full of pseuds as Veeky Forums is, it's far and away the best place to discuss real literature if you're not at uni in a related field. It's the kind of environment I like.
Autists being autists, you lot like to pretend that Veeky Forums is exclusively for miserable anime-obsessed NEETs. The truth is that most of the people here are nothing like that. But I don't care who you are, I just want to talk about books, and 95% of the time that's what I do here.
I only posted the story because this was a thread about personal lives, friend. If the story was about spilling spaghetti out of my pockets you would love it as an example of board culture. I don't know why you need to get upset.

get the fuck out pseud shit and come back when you have read all of the fucking greeks

Absolutely SICK burn user, I have no idea how I'll ever recover, haha, I never should have posted on your Taiwanese blowfish cooking imageboard, hahaha, wow

I've never had anyone make fun of me for saying that.

My plans every weekend usually have to do with reading. I get in all my "social" events like opera and symphony attendance done during the weekdays, because weekend traffic in my city is impossible. Literally no reason to go out on weekends when 2-3 hours of that is going to be sitting in a car.

Did it ever occur to autists like you that you are the one stifling discussion opportunities by restricting yourself to a single interest? The great irony is that the primary argument for keeping liberal arts programs around is that, "academics ought to be more rounded in their studies than just their major. People should be cultured." This is very true, but you are NOT being cultured when you can only talk about your little niche of literature.

Contrariwise, you are committing the very same crime that you accuse these people of: if you are so ignorant and ill-informed that you can't talk about anything but (certain) books, then don't go out expecting to be accepted by society with open arms.

This same issue occurs over on Veeky Forums; half of those autists can't talk about anything but their STEM field.

It's fine and dandy to specialize if you want to. I get it. But don't come and complain when you can't hold a discussion with normies, and then blame it on the normies. Fuck off.

This documentary is comfy

Man up lil nigga

Have you even read Aurelius

>horseshoe theory

>hurr durr atheists and theists are both humans
>so similar, horseshoe theory!!
>hurr look, they both think the other side is wrong
>MUH HORSESHOES!!
Just because two ends of an (artificial) spectrum have some members that share a personality flaw does not entail an instance of horseshoe theory. Are you serious?

>Are you serious?
I'm always serious. Yes, even when I sleep.
