Is the Sword of Shannara any good?

No

>tfw you blog has 1.3k followers but the one tim you post your writing it only gets 3 likes

I think it's time to give up

Post a link, I'll give you some criticism

Keely?

It is much maligned here. Terry has a pretty obvious formula that he uses in the earlier ones (haven't read much past the first two series). His setting has some interesting ideas and is comfy enough if you have time to burn on mediocrity.

Ignore the blog please

fantheoriesandfoodporn.tumblr.com/post/146725372464/the-night-parade

>tumblr
Fuck off retard.

...and now I remember that they started a TV series in January covering Elfstones of Shannara (arguably the best of the ones I read). Looks like it got picked up for a second season.

The series was absolute dogshit, they aimed for the Twilight / Hunger Games audiences and went full YA teen love triangle. The only saving grace was the Allanon actor.

Well if your blog has that many followers probably only about 100 looked at the post, so about 15 actually read it. Most people can't be bothered to click like so let's say 3 out of 6 people enjoyed your work. 50%, still better than Sanderson.

>blog

I thought those died and were replace by tumblr nowadays.

Oh, you just called it like that.

Since blogspot died(for the most part, anyway), the only way that you could get attention today while also remaining fairly anonimous is by using tumblr, even if it has a terrible fame due to SJWs. I can't blame that guy for using it, even if the name is shit.

Im a fan theorists as a hobby and unfortunately Tumblr is the ideal place for that sort of thing even if the user base sucks.

You're probably right, mos of my fan theories get about 50x that in the first 3 hours but they are much shorter, and that's what I'm follwed for

Plus, its a horror story so that probably triggers a lot of people

make that 3 out of 7 now.

just kidding

You can't think, you can't write, there's no discernible talent.

I have a suspicion that you, personally, are an asshole with no constructive potential. I'll choose to ignore you.

I already told your faggot ass when you made the thread yesterday, Altered Carbon. Now fuck off.

Isn't Shannara itself YA?

*sniff*

Is liking Mieville a meme? Is Railsea any good or not?

>tfw writing my first story

It's cringe af but feels good to just write and not give a shit

If you don't fuck up the dialogue and don't introduce love trianlges with edgy emo characters, you're good to go.

ELEVEN

Yes, but they turned it up to 11.

>not recognising the Bloom quote on DFW

Calm down broski, I was just memeing. I haven't even opened the link.

Railsea's a rare example of good YA, very Melville/Defoe/Stevenson high seas adventure. Certain of his books could be called memes (mostly Iron Council, he goes full Marx and it's embarrassing), but I appreciate the fact he mostly does standalones, that way if something doesn't work out the next book'll be completely different - it's not like committing to a big multipart saga.

I'm almost half way trough "The Way Of Kings"

Is Sanderson still avoiding sex scenes like he did in Mistborn?

If so, what the hell can I read that isn't asoiaf that has an actual credible character story?

>And the Nonman King cried words that sting:

"Answer me now, for death above you hovers."

>And the Emissary replied ever
wary:

"We are the race of flesh.
We are the race of lovers."

>11 days until The Great Ordeal

...

Shit prose / 10

EVERY THREAD UNTIL TGO IS OUT

Could power armour, giant mecha and dinosaurs work together in a fantasy novel?

How do you feel about animal people in your stories?

I'm writing a modern-day cold-war-gone-hot, but the commies are a union of canines, encompassing domestic dog breeds as well as wolves and foxes and etc., where the non-dogs are a tiny minority that although nominally equal are still mistrusted by the dogs. The other side are fascist cats, where the big cats (lions, tigers, etc.) are a caste of educated warrior-philosophers who are emburdened with carrying the culture of their society and for whom failure is a death sentence ruling over the domestic cats and who seek to genocide all non-cats.

Furry wank, or might be fun?

>Rothfuss too busy shitting on fans to release book
>Sanderson doing fuck all garbage graphic novels instead of real books
>Weeks just on fucking twitter 24/7 instead of writing

Fuck you

>three trash authors
Who cares.

they are the 3 most prolific and best fantasy writers

Power Rangers the book?

Blood mirror comes out in a few months

Which is why weeks is fucking around

>Rothfuss anywhere near best

2/10 b8 made me reply

I tried reading Perdido Street Station and one of his other books and I got about a page into each. His style was an instant turn-off.

>characters are not credible if I have not watched them bone
One of the main characters has a sexual relationship later. But you don't get to watch.

>age of Myth Is Out

I'm sorry but it really gets into my nerves when sex scenes are so softly implicit.

If he told us thatVin and Elend really fucked, the story would be way more interesting. I can't get gripped into a narrative that doesn't convince me. Sorry, I just can't.

>i can't take a story seriously if there isn't sex in it

You and the rest of your kin is the cancer that forced Asimov to focus so much on sex in Robots of Dawn. So far at least.

Sex isn't really needed for a story, you know.

>sex in Robots
That's just retarded.

I just can't relate to a 10 book universe if characters that find each other attractive don't Fuck. I'm sorry for liking immersive universes.

I blame the Authors for not diving into sex scenes in the genre. I reflects their lives.

>I'm sorry but it really gets into my nerves when sex scenes are so softly implicit.
It's called being tasteful.

>Excuses on being a virgin

But Sandersonia has an active segment of his website devoted to what he's working on.
He's mainly been writing Stormlight 3 for the past year and a half.

You should have said
>Sanderson doing fuck all garbage non-Cosmere instead of Cosmere

Only a virgin or other sexually immature person could consider sex scenes such a vital part of a book. All I can do is recommend growing up.

>implying Sanderson isn't all garbage

He's modern day Jordan which we sure as fuck didn't need.

if a book needs a fucking chart like this it's gay as fuck and you should be ashamed for reading it.

>Hey, you liked part 1
>Too bad faggot, part 2 is about the evil wizard's slut

Are these animals or animal people?

Nobody fucking knows what that book is bitch

>He doesn't think sex is a vital part of life and human relationships

Only a virgin or other sexually immature person could consider sex such a vital part of a life. All I can do is recommend growing up.

You must have a really shallow life ;..;

Dude...

Says the one so obsessed with sex lol

As someone who's currently writing a book, I feel like adding a sex scene, even if the characters are clearly attracted to one another, is distasteful and would turn readers off.

That sort of thing should be reserved for stuff like visual novels where porn is pretty much expected to be in every story.

On the other hand, I do wonder if readers think this.
>This author never, ever writes about sex. Is he a virgin?

Your very existence is a result of sex. Are you retarded or something?

Are you the son of a lesbian?

I didn't explain myself clear. I don't consider the description of a sex scene to be important. I do, however, think it's extremely important to know if they actually did it instead of leaving it in the air.

>>This author never, ever writes about sex. Is he a virgin?

If they do think that then theyre retarded as fuck

i guess Tolkien was a megavirgin since he never had his characters break out in a fucking orgy in the middle of the book

Also, why are these people truing to project modern sensibilities onto a fantasy world? It makes no sense

Trying to project*

>i guess Tolkien was a megavirgin since he never had his characters break out in a fucking orgy in the middle of the book

Other times user. But yes, his work lost quality because of it.

What's the Rothfuss shitting on his fans thing? I don't follow the fat fuck.

No it didnt

He constantly shits on his fans, he's a fucking arrogant shithead

>Wrote an entire universe like very few did.
>Doesn't even engage in intimate moments between Aragon and Arwen
>Doesn't explore Orcs

It did. I like his work nonetheless. He was the 1st to deliver a good action fantasy series.

The entire point of LOTR was to hit those mythical notes. It would honestly be incongruous to the theme if he went off track to explore those things.

Reminds me of GRRM getting on about Tolkien not exploring fantasy finances lol

Drooling neanderthals obsessed with wet holes. Sex is sex, a source of pleasure like many other things. Not something transcendent or in any way the "purpose of life". Apes.

Sorry, not but instead.

Those brutes...

>whimsical fantasy world noted by fantastical things and high adventure
>why doesn't this story get into the nitty gritty like who's fucking who and how unpleasant life can be?

I do think sexual explicit content is distasteful.
But I hate when the Author tries desperately to hide when sex happened.

>She walked up naked in the morning
I'm quoting a well known fantasy author. The girl is 18 years old, this is the 1st time they slept on a tent after a 2 year relationship in sleeping in separate rooms. We have no background whatsoever on their believes or sexual driven emotions.

Call me a dumb rock, but it would be much better if the fucker just said:
>He took her the 1st time that night.

>>>/asexual projecting/

Don't be that way. There's a fine line between
>sex isn't the end-all be-all of life, and it doesn't needed to be included in every single work of fiction
and
>sex is a vain pursuit of the flesh held by unintelligent, lesser creatures than I! Look how ascetic and enlightened I am!

I see what you mean, that's just poor handling in general. It makes the act seem almost meaningless since its an offhand detail.

God bless you.

It makes me feel like I'm reading a Shōnen manga or something.

But they did, it would have been noteworthy if they didn't. Like in Warbreaker.

goodreads.com/book/show/26863057-age-of-myth

OK, you're probably right in that I went too far. But it's the difference, say, between Whitman's handling of sex and Updike's travesties of it he drenches his books with that I'm concerned with, not with going around castrating people. You're right.

nah

>tfw literally every event that happens in the story is lifted whole cloth from events from real history.

>no sex in LOTR
Sam had like seven fucking kids where do you think they came from.

Tolkien had a bunch of kids.

He knew what sex was, he wasn't interested in his story being about it.

>Tons of B&Ns apparently breaking TGO street date
>Only one around here hasn't

AAAAH I'm so fucking sick of waiting.

I haven't read any of his stuff apart from the Sarantine mosaic, is it worth it?

The memes have finally convinced me to bump bakker to the top of my list. I'm ready for the cuckening.

That's from sanderson isn't it

>is it worth it?

No it's a spook

>High fantasy setting in a world with modern technology

Why is this so unpopular? And no I'm not referring to urban fantasy "secret magical wizard societies" shit.

Zelazny explored it, came to the conclusion that modern technology would rek mages so fucking hard it wouldn't even be a fight.

Speaking of Zelazny is Lord of Light worth reading?

Why does no one here knows about The Name Of The Wind?

Bullshit, you can make magic as arbitrarily powerful as you want.

Sure you can, if you want to relegate yourself to the YA section.

ANSWER MY QUESTION REEEEE

>you must stick to these very specific powerlevels with my precious wizardy thaumatagic magical bullshit otherwise my autism will explode
>dont you even know the 8 laws of witchery lol you must adhere to them XDD EXPELIARMIS
