There's a theory that no civilization surpasses that treshold to move on to other planets before destroying themselves which is why there is no widely spread advanced colony of aliens anywhere.

And with the current shitty situation of the world, I'm even doubting if we can set foor on Mars.

well the universe will die someday and humanity can't do jack shit about that so yeah we're fucked in the long run

>implying

well then lad tell me how we could possibly stop the universe from running out of energy or whatever

wtf

Energy cannot be destroyed.

was implying to implications that universe may not die in a sense simply because energy is no longer usable for anything we humans could make out with.

The multiverse theory makes it theoretically possible to jump to another universe should ours fail.

Also, the lack of sunlight, trillions maybe quadrillions (maybe more) years away doesn't mean the universe is dead.

Humans have the ability to make artificial light now, just imagine 100 years from now, let alone 1,000 years from now when we colonize space efficiently.

you're talking about universal heat death. That will take ~40 billion years iirc. Shut up if you dont know what you're talking about

It's called Transhumans, and it is a thing. Some humans will within few years develope abilities by the use of LSD, to see things and the reality from a different perspective, understanding the infinty universe. Why drugs is illegal? Well, for some people that take LSD will get deeply in touch with the universe and everything. You get your spirituality back, and can think differently than a normal human begin. LSD is from Ergot, a muchroom that grows on wheat. The Aliens that have used humanity as a testproject have made humanity ready for a transformation to Post Humans. Transhumans are humans ready for the transformation.

This all have connection to neuro programming(NLP). Steve jobs said something about the world after his death, a event connected to 1970, when NPL and drugs restriction was created. Thanks for me

BTW all this have something to do with this:

Xir, you don't even know what you are talking about. Red dwarf stars have a life time of over 1 trillion years and some of them are still being created, so we can use them for up to 10 trillion years into the future. After that, we can still use gas giants that contain lots of material to fuse. When they eventually run out, we could create small black holes and feed them all the matter that cannot be fused (like iron) or otherwise used to create more useable energy. And when we have not even that left, we can still use what little energy the bigger black holes gives us through Hawking radiation. So after about 10^80-10^90 we're actually fucked, but we ideally we should be outside this universe by then.

Some combination of nanotech and A.I. will overtake humanity in the next 50-100 years. We are too stupid or greedy to prevent it. Sam Harriss puts this one to bed. It's over. Sorry.

look up the "technological singularity"

look up the "fermi paradox" and any possible solutions

>and humanity can't do jack shit about that
that we know of so far
if our understanding of the universe is even correct, which I really doubt

Getting payloads into orbit (and beyond) is already very hard (even today it still isn't something you can call "routine" in any way) but talking about colonizing planets, outside earth's sphere of influence is pretty delusional.

Go back to /x/ buddy.

>That will take ~40 billion years iirc.
it will still happen
and we won't be able to do shit
implying humanity is still alive then

Man, the Deus Ex add campaign is pretty neat

Virtual reality is the logical end of any advanced enough civilization -- NOT space traveling

It is both easier and better in many senses.

It is easier because:
- You can't travel faster than light
- Even if you could travel as fast as light, it still would take billions of years to navigate the universe
- There's probably nothing interesting anywhere

It is better because:
- Every person gets to be God of their own virtual universe, or visit one of many shared universes whenever they feel like it
- What difference does it make if it's a simulation or real, as long as your brain gets the same impulses?

Eventually, given millions of years, I wage they will create some sort of floating device that wanders the universe. The device contains many such minds, and the minds enjoy their own universe, and the shared universes.

Well, you were right in asking "or", because it really is one or the other. Otherwise, I have no idea.

Theoretically you could put a self-sustaining colony on Mars or on the Moon, but it would take centuries and cost trillions, who's going to pay for it? And who wants to live effectively in a cave for their entire lives?

Agreed, it will only become realistic when overpopulation or lack of resources become a major issue.
