Why does profound literature have zero effect on people compared to augmented reality?
Is this something to dismiss as for plebs? Or as something completely separate from literature ("It's not even art!", "It's not the same medium!")
Or are things just as icy calm said they would be, technology working as an integral part of art (as it always has, not that the pseuds could realise this), and creating new forms of art that capture the imaginations of people better than old art forms (2D vidya, 3D vidya, cinema, books) ever could?

It's very pathetic in my opinion. Pokemon on Gameboy was enjoyable because it provided the player with a colorful, organized world wherein he could defeat the forces of evil and develop as a person in the process as well as helping his faithful pokemon to develop alongside him. There was the loyal innocent Pikachu that so many people could not bear to see evolve into the more aggressive Raichu. There was one of three "starter" Pokemon that were selected, like an orphan, and taken with the player throughout their journey across the world waiting to be discovered. There was an upbeat soundtrack, a number of pleasant and helpful AI characters, but also an underlying sense of dread and sadness. The Pokemon Tower where deceased pokemons are said to be buried, Team Rocket with their constant attempts to harm the player, the boastful and unkind Gym Trainers, the random strangers who seem to exist only to pick fights with our protagonist. It was a private universe wherein our young user could discover in basic form the struggle which constitutes our shared existence. Where he could discern between behavior which did and did not contribute to the wellbeing of other people and even creatures that were not human. But Pokemon Go corrupts this world, it reduces the notion of Pokemon to yet another form of material gain, the hoarding of creatures for no purpose other than to boast to other players and demonstrate your superiority by displaying the size of your haul.

Some of what you said had merit, the GB games were more artful, but that doesn't mean that this also doesn't capture the hearts of "trainers" who want to go out and dominate a fun game with friends and a community, all while keeping a large part of the spirity of the franchise intact

I should probably try Pokemon Go sometime. I love literature, but I feel like I should get out more and I hear Pokemon Go is kind of the perfect way to just meet people now. Isn't it somewhat amazing that a simple game has brought so many people together?
I also hear that some key spots for Pokemon Go are landmarks like sculptures or fountains in New York, which can only be a plus in getting people to visit areas with artistic merit.

You're making zero sense. You claim Pikachu and the electric type he represents is weak, yet Misty and pokemon who are water-based are most easily harmed by that same electric type. You have no idea how the pokemon world functions do you? Every pokemon "type" is most effective against another type, and least effective against another. Geodude? Don't use Pikachu. Diglet? Literature doesn't physically cause people to go out and accomplish things, at the effect is insular and intellectual. The only reason that something like Pokémon appears to have an actual effect on an individual is because it compels them to do a visible physical activity of sorts. Literature does have a profound effect on the individual, you just don't wear it on your skin.

I'm absolutely convinced that the codex, manuscript text in book form, is going to by in large pass out of use within the lifetime of, for want of a better demographical term, "millennials". If you look back at the history of the codex and/or the novel it doesn't take too much effort to conclude that technological developments have had profound effects on the types of literary forms that people are engaged with.
