I've seen Indians put bay leaves and cinnamon sticks in rice w/ lentils, but not cloves.
"White people" tend to put cloves in baking recipes, pies, quick breads, cookies and such, and might stud an orange for mulled wine or cider, or a glazed ham. That's about it.
