>can you cross-breed fungus with the vegetative portion of fungus

I'm no biologist, so if you're being satirical I'm not catching it.

"mycelium" refers to the vegetative portion of fungus. 1, it's a generic term, there is no mycelium fungus. 2. you can't cross vegetative tissue.

Alright, well what I really meant was it'd be cool to have a fungus that has mycelium, but mycelium that can demonstrate mobility.

so like, slime molds?

Slime molds are mobile?

I was more interested in something that, at a perceptible rate, could move both itself and a shell of decomposing matter.

that's the best you're going to get without moving up to the animal kingdom

Unless, somehow, I can mad scientist something into existence.
But I'm not a biologist, so I dunno what's possible.

A man can only dream.

I'd hump you lots senpaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai

fungi are pretty genetically diverse user

im gonna say no

why do you want to though?

are you trying to make a mycellium culture with an inbuilt pest-control mechanism or something?

tell me more

Please do.

I'm more curious as to what would happen if a species that benefits highly from and contributes greatly to a good ecosystem is given even more control over its environment, by being able to work as a means for the dirt itself to move.

i like it user

There is only bacteria and non-bacteria, your kingdom slang is outdated.

keystone species tho..

You can't cross breed but you can design a whole new artificial species using genetic engineering.

how do
