I don't get this guy

I don't get this guy.

>Eurasia just got lucky! The horizontal latitudes meant it was easier for technology to spread!

But then he admits

>Japan has more literacy than Iraq, even though writing began in that region thousands of years earlier.

So does the headstart really even matter? Europe was less advanced than the Near East. And that's over a period of thousand years. South Korea was poor and backwards as recently as the 1950s, but they are now practically a first world country. How does he explain that?

Japan, Korea, China, Russia, and I'm sure many other nations were well behind the super powers of Western Europe and the United States for most of history. Industrialization and modernizing can occur at any time and help you catch up very quickly, especially if nations are willing to help you with higher technology.

I will tell you why certain nations are still so far behind: International Capitalism. Those South American and African nations that were initially put down to feed the West's industrial revolution are, today, being controlled by a modern form of Imperialism. Not political like it was, but economic. These countries are trapped in a cycle consisting of corruption, debt, and raw materials that prevent them from using their own goods to industrialize and advance.

Geographical determinism has long been debunked by, most famously, Acemoglu and Robinson in 'Why Nations Fall' though there are better, more academic books, on the topic which explain the success of the more developed countries in the world in a far more convincing way.

If this topic interest you I highly suggest Violence and Social Order by Douglas Notrh; Capital in the 21 century by Piketty or perhaps even the new book by Bas van Bavel (which I haven't read but was present in many of his lectures) The Invisible Hand.

It's not 'racism' it's Race Realism. The study of human genetics and civilisation should be based on reason and science, not wishy washy PC platitudes. They'd have you believe it was just a coincidence white Europeans where going to the moon and back while blacks where literally living in huts made of cowshit. Well, the facts say otherwise.

Or maybe they just keep voting in the same useless marxist governments that waste all their resources, even when they are richer in petroleum like Venezuela is.

add labor to that cycle, too; I forgot about that.

And ignore this ignorant little /pol/ memer.

Why do the Africans still live in mudhuts?

This doesn't explain the succes of Botswana. These African countries are in a vicious circle, trapped in poverty, due to their institutions which do not promote growth and do not promote investments nor hard work. They are also spoonfed by UN food provisions and have no incentive to even try and rise out of their poverty because the means to do so do not promote the kind of behaviour that is essential to economic growth.

There is no creative destruction in Africa, nor is there anything like patents or labor unions. There is no guarantee that you will live off the fruits of your labor when the institutions in African countries, by nature, prohibit that. Corruption is the norm and all the elite is occupied with is maintaining and controlling power and wealth.

What's wrong with a mud hut?

you can't put nearly as many people in it as some shitty building made out of steel and other materials.
Seeing as Africans keep shitting out babies shouldn't housing be seen as a problem?

This and this
There is a proven correlation between iq
Race and the degree of time preference. That is to say, Negroids and Amerindians have higher time preference than Europoids. They adapted to a tropical environment where you just have to stretch your hand and grab a banana, no need to work hard to earn your living. Thus, they are more concerned with immediate benefits and prone to ignore the long term. That explains the popularity of socialism and statism among tropical and subtropical people. There is a dearth of entrepreneurial spirit in those regions.

Hey man I browse pol as much as the next guy but this post is blatantly shit. If you endulge yourself in pol retoric anyway why haven't you read academics like Sowell who pretty much has to debunk this kind of stuff for decades?

Institutions

>were well behind the super powers of Western Europe and US for most of history.

I don't see how Africa was much different than the Asian countries who were colonized by the West, be it that colonization was far more rampant in Africa by the West than Asia but nonetheless Asia has succesfully learned of the Western model and are now doing quite good for themselves.

International capitalism can't explain the poverty of Africa or South America. Why is Argentina doing so well for themselves and why is Venezuela doing abysmal? Why is Botswana Africa's hope and why is most of the rest of the continent a nightmare?

If anything it is Europe's tariffs on farming that hurts Africa the most which is in essence not a capitalist, but a protectionist scheme.

That entire book was fucking retarded.

If you can't tell the truth about race and IQ, you can't tell the truth about anything else. I'm not a /pol/tard, it's just reality.

>citation needed

I hear a statistic being tossed around, that the average iq of sub saharan Africans is 70. Where did they get that number, and how could it possibly be that low? That's the cutoff for mental retardation.

Flynn effect perhaps?

Diamond is a hack, but geography is highly important for economic development.

This is silly because Amerindians are literally siberian hunters.
And the civilizations of Peru and Bolivia werent tropical gardens
