Edward Witten

I'd bestow both honours upon her, if you get my meaning.
My meaning being that I can't because I'm not part of the system. And she's probably not in the running.
This year, at least.

If String Theory pans out to be true, then I 100% agree that he will receive the Nobel. Even if that's 200 years from now.

yeah he is by far the most important string theorist

who would be the other 2 [physicists though?

Why can't a mathematician make groundbreaking progress in physics? String theory and higher category theory are intimately linked, and a breakthrough in either could earn a Fields medal and Nobel prize.

isn't string theory already proven through mathematical consistency?

>isn't string theory already proven through mathematical consistency?
Dude I'm a math guy and even I know what you just said is retarded

Nobel prizes are given out for experimental research not theoretical. So for Witten to get a nobel, someone would have experimentally verify one of the billion things he has published papers on. I imagine it would be on some of his condensed matter work before on String Theory.

I see. Well, a mathematician could still produce physics research which is later falsified, no?

>Nobel prizes are given out for experimental research not theoretical
But that's wrong. Feynman got it you git.

Once you do math you don't go back to Physics

Does the math work? Yes.
Is string theory even provable by experiment? No.

Saying string theory is mathematically consistent is like saying my new theory that everything exists and moves because of magic is mathematically consistent. The theory has been fleshed out with math, but that doesn't give it any real-world "provability".

Nope, I did

t. mathematical physics enthusiast

What don't you get about "QED is among the most stringently tested theories in physics" ?

this is a worksafe board, brainlet

>enthusiast

>Even if that's 200 years from now.
You need to be alive to get a NP

Where do you work where people aren't allowed to dress like this?
Hell, I'd even consider getting OP's picture screen-printed onto a shirt and then give a news conference.

Who the fuck cares? Prizes are just validation, and a side effect of being extremely passionate and disciplined in your field of study.

What does "t." mean? I'm behind on memes

t. newfag

It's finnish for "regards" or something like that.

I don't think you know what it means if you are saying that ...

French, I thought.

Which means it doesn't have to make sense.

It's commonly used as an addendum to someone else's post, usually to insult them.

You're supposed to green post dumbass

t. Veeky Forums rules """"""expert""""""

No-one ever does so "supposed" doesn't come into it.

The one who finds the general solution to Navier-Stokes

You're just calling yourself a newfag and a rules expert

In your head maybe, no-one else agrees and you'd know if you weren't a newfag.

t is for terveisin

And to add, go look through here and you'll see that you're wrong.
