I used to eat at restaurants alone many times, I travelled as part of my job and would often eat out, away from the Hotel I was staying at.

I have never had any problems and a lot of restaurants have simple little tables in the corner for business travellers.

When i waited tables, i loved single tables. Usually never happened during peak time but slow times, they rarely require more than 5 minutes of my time per hour and i get an extra 2-3 dollars for next to no work.

Really? I always tip a lot more when I eat alone since I'm not spending as much money. I usually give like 5-8 dollars if I'm alone and if eating with others, never over 15%

Would you tip 5-8 dollars in the following scenario?

>You order something worth ~$20, a single plate
>They bring you your food
>They Ask once 5 min later if everything's okay
>You ask for the check and pay for your meal

I just can't see it making sense to tip 20%+ in that sort of situation where you are taking such a minuscule amount of the waiter's time. Usually in groups you have the 'tard that wastes the waiter's time by trying to decide their order on the spot, but by yourself you don't have to rely on other people.
