There's nothing heroic about Satan in Paradise Lost. He's just an over-proud asshole.

Someone post the Andrew Marvell greentext about paradife loft

>paradife loft
I actually read a relatively modern book in French where they had decided to use a font that turned s into f, it was torture

>he doesn't read in early modern English script

I wouldn't call it a hero, is closet to a victim without being one - he is the character we feel pity of, even if what he became was his own fault alone.

>thinking a long s is an f

Damn, what happened to this place..

Wow who even thought that was a good idea to begin with?

The signifier is arbitrary.

ſignifier*

>be andrew marvell
>have written some very good, dark poems about a figure called "the mower"
>be good friends with milton, whom i consider an absolute bawler, a primo poet
>letter arrives from him one day
>nearly unreadable
>looks like it was written by john donne's retarded offspring
>decipher "hi marvell, come over to my house"
>the rest is just random references to scripture
>go to milton's crib
>nigga turned blind
>sblood.flaxscroll
>he asks me to help him get his new work down
>epic long poem about the fall of man
>why-was-i-not-so-divinely-inspired.faircopy
>agree to help
>much excitement ensues
>get out quill and ink, only the most finely crafted paper
>here we go
>my genius friend begins his epic
>"the title... paradife loft"
>look at him
>his blind eyes going all over the place
>my year long friend has clearly lost his mind
>mfw this is gonna be a 10.000 line epic about a loft
>mfw the main character's name is retarded
>fatan

... what a retard.

He wasn't retarded, just losing his mind

Protestant """""""""""""""""""literature"""""""""""""""""""""" amounts to Satanism.

Why am I not surprised?

reminder that Marvell was a committee of at least 7 different poets

He has all the qualities of an epical hero. Had he been in a Greek or Roman epic, he would have been the hero. However, a Christian hero requires a different disposition.

This. That's pretty much the point of the entire thing, to compare this sort of Greco-Roman ideal with the Abrahamic one.

>Christian hero

What qualities are you talking about? He rebelled against God because of his arrogance and wanted to rule. That's awfully different from someone like Odysseus, who was brave, cunning, and an upright man almost all of the time. Or we could look at the real archetypal hero, Hektor, and see that him and Satan have nothing in common.

>the abfolute madman!

God was a despotic ruler in PL, have u even read it?
>because of his arrogance and wanted to rule
So you missed the point of the entire first third of the story. Satan was brave, cunning in that he gathered a host of followers, and an upright man, fighting for what he believed in.
