>Gee user, I wonder why we spend so much money to research space and stuff! After all, we don't even know most of the stuff going on in our own oceans! We should spend more money into that instead of space!

how do I counter this horrific argument

who is the guy in pic related

>If you want to go explore the ocean, feel free to go explore the ocean. Dump as much money as you want.

The ocean is less interesting than space.

The correct position is that we should waste money on neither and instead fund programs that actually better society.

Leave space exploration to industry, the same way ocean exploration is mostly an oil industry effort. "Real scientists" exploring the ocean are just jacking off drawing maps, the same "Real scientists" explorign the space are just jacking off drawing space maps. Defund all those faggots.

If the oil industry found a sustainable way to explore the ocean by looking specifically for valuable resources then the same eventually will happen to space. Tesla is already an industry funded space exploration program and soon enough they will find a way to make it sustainable.

James Camron (idgaf how it spelled) recently dove to some retardedly deep depth with a camera to film potentially never before seen ocean life. When he got down there it was literally nothing but rocks and sand. Deep Ocean sucks, deep space sucks too, but at least its shit we have never seen before. I will take methane lakes over rocks and fucking sand any day.

His name is James, James Cameron
The bravest pioneer
No budget too steep, no sea too deep
Who's that?
It's him, James Cameron
James, James Cameron explorer of the sea
With a dying thirst to be the first
Could it be? Yeah that's him!
James Cameron

there's more potential in space for humankind

It's right somewhere. We've looked enough into the space to know that we're never going to leave earth.

Jane?

>let the same people research the oceans as have the power to destroy them

great idea, user

Kek

Because colonizing the ocean floor is a fucking stupid idea.

Because he descended to the Challenger Deep, where conditions prevent the development of many species (no fish, for one) there is a lot of interesting shit in the ocean.

>there is a lot of interesting shit in the ocean.

We know. We dumped it there.

Bloody nautical freegan.

Feel free to go and check your whales

as long as she keeps sucking my dick at night in our bed i'd say yes to everything she says.

Millennia of iteration, trial and error, and yet we still have capitalist morons pumped out right and left.

I wouldn't purge you outright, but I'd sure find a way to use you for all you're worth while you wither away from labor camp conditions.

who in this thread has ever scuba dived?

who holds a certification above pleb level?

>landlubbers wanna talk shit about the ocean and not get fucked up

There's no cool sea monsters down there so it's pointless

...

Our future is out there, not down here.

You can't put the satellites for your loved internet so you can browse facebook the whole day on the bottom of the ocean, that's why.

Yes cause all the alternatives have worked out so well. I can't wait for the world economy to crash already so you can enjoy the fruits of socialist and welfare programs the same way Greece and Venezuela have.

No but you put the cables down there for internet you fucking retard

That's because the scientific community isn't a single group with a singular purpose. If that were the case the argument could easily be extended to "we should spend more money in finding a cancer cure than into studying the ocean, or studying physics, or any other field."

It's erroneous to make such claims because science is multidisciplinary and often times scientists study something out of curiosity NOT utility.

To reject all projects that are not based on their potential immediate utility is problematic because it is short sighted.

One can never predict the potential applications for a field of study. It often starts as trying to come up with a model to describe natural phenomena and then ends up as having that model be implemented in some kind of technology.

The new layer of understanding allows us, as a society, to determine what is and what is not possible.

But it's easy for one to be shortsighted because they take the technological advancements of our time for granted. They see not how current technologies have relied on the fundamental principles scientists have determined in the past.

...

Because space is the final frontier and the the ocean isn't.

>Greece
>socialist

please be bait

>let's just jump into uncharted territory and put only the most base and primitive effort into keeping track of where we are in relation to everything.
Yeah, what kind of an asshole would jack off making a map? It's a real erotic and intellectually stimulating experience, right, asshole?

space has more resources

>part of th EU
>not socialist

Authentic Captalism hasn't existed since the 60's, user. Modern liberalist (LBJ an onward) have made sure of that.

>retard arguments should be countered with equally retarded arguments

>EU
>socialist
>every country is capitalist

thank god, for a second there I actually thought you were serious calling Greece of all countries socialist.

Every EU country is capitalist with a small flavor of socialist policies that were implemented in the Cold War to counterbalance the USSR's free shit, in order to get the best of both worlds (freedom of speech, voting as well as free shit). One of these policies is now known as universal healthcare, one of the most coveted implementations that Europe has ever achieved. Even then, the current EU parties are barely doing anything to build upon such policies, at best they are keeping them in place, at worst they're trying to remove them.

kek, that unintentional retardation

...

>40% tax rates
>craddle to grave welfare
>capitalism

Glad to know you know what capitalism is

>don't know what capitalism actually is

protip: if you look at capital and then capitalism you can connect the dots.

doubleprotip: you have to use your brain?

Uh its called social democracy which is a form of capitalism. Regulated capitalism and a welfare state is still capitalism

>regulated market
>Capitalism

I suggest you guys start with "Wealth of Nations" in wikipedia. I see guys are having trouble.

You're either retarded or you're being intentionally dense and ignoring definitions in order to frame the EU as "socialist" as a further excuse to bash socialism and what you consider "leftism" to be. Considering /pol/ is a very widespread board, I'm leaning towards the latter.

No, you just lak basic understanding of ideological/economic systems, brainlet. If the government influences the market, IT'S NOT CAPITALISM. Again, read up. Alternatively, google mercantlism if you need to understand what's not capitalism. The EU is a neo-mercantilist state.

>Gee user, I wonder why we spend so much money to research space and stuff!
Space? Not so much. As for "stuff", well that is just too vague.

>After all, we don't even know most of the stuff going on in our own oceans!
And we don't know very much yet about anything. There are huge white areas on the maps.

>We should spend more money into that instead of space!
Easy. Just pay. Now.

As a former researcher I know people want results (and "stuff") and demand the latest in medicine and treatments but are not willing to spend a penny on it or any other research. That reults in dire salaries that are insufficient to pay off student loans,. So I went to industry instead.

This was as simple is could be put, yet still you didn't understand it.

But at least calling someone you don't understand a retard will illeviate the pain.

7th dimension is real in the physical sense as we are discovering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! parallel systems

the ocean is something else..... iNVERSIONS
