Why do you bother writing when people who are smarter, more talented, more skilled, more industrious, younger...

Why do you bother writing when people who are smarter, more talented, more skilled, more industrious, younger, and better connected than you are already five steps ahead? Any work you produce will at best be a distraction from their genius.

If you truly cared about literature, you would let go of your ego and do your best to help your superiors

Because fuck them, that's why.

Just because someone is younger or more organized doesn't mean you have nothing to offer.
Despite new cars coming out every year there is still a market for the older ones. Some are that much more valuable because of the flaws

You sound pretty spooked OP.

Now that's some feel good toilet paper sermon bullshit right there lad.

I'm better than all of them.

Especially whoever goes to fucking Harvard these days, lol. Harvard is a joke now and has been so for at least 20 years.

If you feel that way go read scientific journals, not literature

Keats was the best of his contemporaries, but I'm glad Shelley, Byron and Coleridge still wrote poems.

why do they have to be exclusive? The work I do is for me, for my improvement as well as enjoyment. I can still help out other people and I can still work on what I love

fuck off cuck

YOU slave away in your MFA while CHAD eats PIZZA and writes the GREAT AMERICAN NOVEL

No one is writing the kind of book(s) I want to read. I don't Fucking care what they're peddling to the posturing hipsters and pretentious consumer, I'm gonna write the kind of book I wanna read. I don't care if you don't wanna read it; go back to your MFA-approved writers.

Does anyone else think that the entire MFA apparatus is ripe for a tell-all, emperor-has-no-clothes article? The more I poke around it the more it just seems like a scam and a fraud.

>why do you have fun when there are people with more experience who have fun better than you do ?

Or maybe you should stop finger painting with vomitus, pal.

I guess I don't disagree with the premise so much as the implicit subtext that this description applies to the people you think it does in the manner you think it does.

What kind of book do you wanna read?

Those people are writing for McSweeney's or some shit. Most of the authors this board jizzes over regularly never went anywhere like Harvard. Relax, you're doing fine.

One with a good plot, lots of deep symbolism, interesting characters, and a well structured story arc.

Because academia on its own has produced next to no great or even decent writers.

I agree that MFAs are entirely worthless, but there's no way to write a "tell-all" article about something without "infiltrating" it, and doing that would expose you to accusations of being a disgruntled, failed MFA student. Not to mention all the bullshit about getting accepted into a program and paying for it in the first place.

But who knows, maybe Vice would be retarded enough to bankroll that kind of thing?

>But who knows, maybe Vice would be retarded enough to bankroll that kind of thing?

Maybe, user, just maybe. It's worth a shot, right? God knows I'll jump at the chance to get paid for my work.

>who are smarter, more talented, more skilled

You said the same thing three times. Shitwriting/10

You better email them then, I guess. Or tweet them? Or however those fags communicate nowadays.

If you think that Ivy League schools have taught excellence rather than excellent conformity since 1930 or so, then I have some bridges in New York that you might be interested in purchasing.

Those criteria are all very vague and entirely subjective anyway.

Bro, nobody wants to read your whining about a thing you have no part in. Not even the people who read Vice.

be nice guys

still better than literally anywhere else
NEETs reading wikipedia can't compete, sorry.

If my "Superiors" are truly so, then my hands would only sully their work by my "assistance".

Truly, I shall continue to write, not under any great delusion that I am particularly good at it; but for the sheer joy of the act of expressing and compiling my stories and ideas as narratives, poems, polemics and whatever else I please.

OP, your bait is frankly shit-tier but it touches on what I feel is a common mistake people make when criticizing their own art; making art is valuable not simply for the quality of the end result, but for the joy of creation irrespective thereof.

Indeed; only those who enjoy creating for it's own sake ever seem to progress far in any art; those who do so purely for approval rarely move beyond their first inspirational slump.

hoe dont do it...
oh my god

why do you speak as if you were stuck in a 1800's time vortex

is your pic related?
every person i know who ended up at an ivy now works at a bank or hedge fund
you're just looking to fuck with people
you could have at least posted an iowa logo
3/10 bait

its how the normies think they can pass as ivy men, by imitating the generalization of fuckin wasps that they see in movies and tv shows because, even though its all in fun, there is something enticing about it, something that seems to speak to a tradition that surpasses language, maybe,

Iowa would be pretty bait-y too. It's considered old-hat by most MFAs these days.

wtf is MFA

Being NEET and going to Harvard aren't the only options, you asshat. Get a scholarship to a liberal arts school, find the oldest professor there, and spend your time studying Greek. Can't afford St. John's? Go to a state school and find a conservative history professor and a liberal art professor (or vice versa) and learn from them both. The Ivy League is just a finishing school for the elite. Today's true patricians are the sons and daughters of the working class who work themselves back into the classics. The wealthy have forfeited their birthright to the canon in favor of fast cars and off-shore bank accounts.

One about a city under siege (Troy, Paris, London, whatever), of brave souls and nefarious plots, where you can feel the gods playing their immortal game while the lowly, earthbound men and women struggle to stay alive, find love (or lust) and find a kind of existential fulfillment, no matter if it ends in death or a barren field.

sorry that you didn't get accepted anywhere good

sounds like hamlet desu

Because the American University system is run by "intellectual" Marxists who are trying to indoctrinate every student in the country

Source: I'm in college

Hamlet in the 20th century? Europe in 1900-1920, America in 1920-1939, Europe (again) in 1940-1955, South (and Central, a-and North for that matter) America in 1959-1972? Do you recognize that street?

I write for my own satisfaction.

I write to put bitches on my dick plain and simple
Lol at anything else.

Is there any way to get into editing? I would much prefer doing editing work for a publisher or at least for a singular author.

I don't write for other people
I write because I think the best way to grow as a person is to build upon your personal philosophy until you reach a lifetime long philosophical stagnation.
I need to write my ideas down, even if only I see them.
Who knows. Maybe they will find my shit and think I'm a genius, maybe I will be fun to laugh at, maybe nobody will find it and it will remain as I intended.
Plus there's a lot of personal shit about me and a lot of stuff I wrote when I was using LSD to try to find out what I want in life, so its best kept to myself anyway.

Did you include a sex slave in your list of wishes?

i was saying iowa would have been better bait
you can't pull references only 3 people will know, that's so high-quality it becomes low-quality

No but there's a bunch of homoerotic shit and a bunch of stories about things I've done and told nobody about.
Also, my actions are very separate from my thoughts. If I acted in line with my thoughts I would be a shit human being. I write down my thoughts though.
I've had to burn a few pages because if they got out I would be institutionalized immediately.
And I guess a few other pages are confessions to felonies. Whatever

>not recognizing Byron as the superior nigga of the Romantics

you the nigga that made that thesis thread that failed to bump after I slapped down some real talk, ain't cha bish?

MFA is just an MBA lite. The good ones focus on setting up a studio and running a business and their equivalents, that's part of why you already need to be working in your field.

I'm working on my masters at Harvard right now. It's great for two reasons: networking and instructor quality.

but apparently not for becoming a better writer.

Because they're none of those things.

I can't speak for the US, but in the UK, top universities aren't really interested in how well-rounded you are.
If you're really good at maths, to the detriment of all other areas, you can study maths at Oxford.
I met a lot of these people at interview. This isn't to talk them down, they were - without exception - great mathematicians, but many had a very limited understanding of other fields.
Since I take a more interdisciplinary outlook, it's probably better for me to be where I am now. Studying maths, but with the free time to delve into other subjects too.

>Harvard

top lel, shit-tier for everything but law, and law is for literal autists who care only about money and spooky prestige.

thanks jack!

Why are you so monumentally shit at identifying language by era?

Harvard is a liberal arts university and the UK insists on early specialisation. The kind of specialisation you do at A-level is similar to a US liberal arts course (but less advanced by and large) in that the focus is on 3 or 4 areas with a focus often around a set of subjects.

There's been for I guess decades now a push for A-levels to be more like IB (although this has been fucked up by pig sticker Hameron), which is why you hear sometimes about general studies or critical reasoning A-levels. I don't think this in itself is a bad idea tho the actual rolling out of such things is half arsed at best. And the real focus and spending should have been on languages.

Harvard is business, Yale is law.

Yeah, while I like apples.

Bretton Woods.

Yeah.

See, in principle it'd be nice if the UK's higher education system didn't put such an emphasis on specialisation. However, we're not known for doing educational reform well at all.

Having said that, a friend of mine is doing a Liberal Arts course at my uni, which allows her to take modules from Languages, Literature, Fine Art, etc. It's just that in a system which is geared towards specialisation, she gets only a surface-level understanding of it all.

i know 3 retards with a master's from harvard
was quite surprised that master's cash cow extends to harvard; thought their endowment was big enough
maybe they're looking to leverage the network of these retards, but still, sad as fuck standards

For a liberal arts degree to work there needs to be options to take a sizeable number of (uk) third level and even graduate level courses imo. And from my own experience of STEM undergrad, too much of the first couple of years is going over a lot of A-level material again. The US has a very good system really for being able to take High School courses and fulfill prerequisites for advanced courses, but where the UK falls down is both not having this option at university and allowing the A-levels to be so abused by """good""" schools.

I switched schools after my first year of A-levels because while I was at a good school you weren't really learning anything because there was no engagement with the A-level framework. It was almost like rote learning. They even for the physics A-level had predesigned experiments, which was expressly forbidden in the mark scheme. But this abuse of "the black box of education" by having kids do well on paper alone doesn't prepare these kids for university and tada the lecturers have to play catch up for two years or so.

>was quite surprised that master's cash cow extends to harvard;
Then you don't know what a cash cow is. It's obvious that Harvard's brand in education would be a cash cow.

So how long I am supposed to wait for these promised people? Shouldn't I do something in the meanwhile in case they fuck up?

Besides your picture is clearly unrelated, some upper class faggot without experiencing real struggle (TM) can't write anything relavant, no matter how talented he or she is.

yes, but it's harvard, not LSE
why muddy your brand like that?

The unremarkable can identify beauty in such a way that the celebrated will never understand.

So much no in this post.
MBA starting salary is easy $85k+
MFA? probably -1k when you consider debt payments and living expenses
Paying for an MFA is a fucking scam

Again, you don't know what a cash cow is. It just means you don't need to do any research or really any advertising or anything to grow the product, you just milk it every so often. Nothing to do with devaluation.

The sad thing is you think you can comment about Harvard's education.

Depends on the MFA and MBA, but both are primarily about business. To do one in Art you need to already have a studio up and running because the course will mostly tell you how to grow it and get your work out.

I assume there are some shitty programs that that doesn't apply to but that's the case for any qual.

that others are aware of it as such is a problem for those with said degrees as the standards are lower, less is expended on such programs, etc
a cash cow is used to finance other programs, that's what it means
everybody knows you're second rate, chum

>a cash cow is used to finance other programs
Nah its a product life cycle term along with question mark, star and dead dog.

Now we have what you meant to say, student tuition funds a lot of the courses students themselves take, but the overall money from tuition is nothing to Harvard and the money it gets from federal sources, industry or its own endowment.

i looked it up in the dictionary for you:
Full Definition of cash cow
1
: a consistently profitable business, property, or product whose profits are used to finance a company's investments in other areas

i don't care about your MBA wankery
i was initially merely wondering why the standards would be so low when i have not met retarded undergrads or PhDs
i am aware LSE does this, but questioned why harvard, i am aware of everything you wrote in the past i am replying to
i am pointing out that your degree is of lesser value because people are now skeptical
that's all
i'm just saying that you're shit and that people are generally aware of this

I don't blame the dictionary people for getting it wrong, but a cash cow is often used to fund other things but not always. It can be a turnkey type business. It just isn't really improveable as a product (so no money goes back into it) and has a long term consistent revenue stream.

And I don't have a Harvard masters I just know their programs are good.

Do you study undergraduate or postgraduate at Oxford? And do you have any aspirations of study in the US?

I'd like to move there after my MSc, but I bet the funding's a real bitch.

I'm 19 years old.

I am handsome, smart, athletic and virile.

I have a novel that is in it's final editing stage, and a creative writing professor at my college has read the first draft and thinks it's saleable.

I have a girlfriend who is confident, articulate, playful and spontaneous.

I have a small group of interesting friends from different social and academic backgrounds, and I also have many other acquaintances who see me as a reliable source of humour and good company.

Both my parents are alive and in good health.

I have no regrets.

I have already experienced three existential crises, the latter of which was described as having the depth and profundity of a man twice my age.

I am a passionate lover, a sharp thinker, and a trader of witty repartee.

I am not self-pitying, meek or needlessly humble.

I will live a good life at your expense.

I write as cathartic exercise, I enjoy it, and want to say some things.

If you write just for the sake of it, because you think its cool or you want fame, then yeah I guess.

I don't respect harvard undergraduates that much.

Intelligent people get in, but mediocre people get in too. They simply aren't selective enough.

I have a lot more respect for the strength of students at say ENS or L'ecole polytechnique or Cambridge than I do for harvard.

>Do you study undergraduate or postgraduate at Oxford?
Neither, I got invited for interview but didn't make the cut. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

>And do you have any aspirations of study in the US?
Yeah I've been accepted to do a year's study abroad, the options are New York, Seattle or Madison. I'm thinking Seattle, never been to the Pacific Northwest.

>I'd like to move there after my MSc, but I bet the funding's a real bitch.
Scholarships galore though. And even with the pound in its current state, the cost of living stateside is peanuts compared to the UK.

>browsing Veeky Forums
>handsome, smart, athletic and virile
>girlfriend who is confident, articulate, playful and spontaneous
>experienced three existential crises, the latter of which was described as having the depth and profundity of a man twice my age
Kek'd.

Lifestyle wise Byron was boss, but Keats' verse was objectively superior.

Wasn't me, but I'm interested in what you said.

Not my field of study amico

>being this autistic

>More authoritarive than a dictionary committee
>Shit posts MBA-indoctrinated bullshit on Japanese Image Board
Top Kek Tyrone is having a field day somewhere

>Most of the authors this board jizzes over regularly never went anywhere like Harvard
>implying being liked by Veeky Forums is an endorsement

>thinks brownnosing an imaginary dictionary committee will give meaning to his life

Are you brain damaged or really trying to bait here?

it's pasta my dude.

>can I insult you or did you hurt my feelings?
I think what you meant to say was something like
>you have brain damage because you baited me
It still reads as stupid but is unashamedly so, unlike your beta comment.

Does this actually work?

Because I like to.

>people who are smarter, more talented, more skilled
All three of these qualities are measured by what people do. You're saying don't do anything because you aren't considering those yet? Do you not realize you have to do something to be considered any of those?

t. got rejected from all the Ivies he applied to. even the shitty ones.

Absolutely. Bitches love Psueds.

What do you write? I'm currently writing a story about incest and necrophilia.

Any more tips for becoming a pseud?

Wrote about your feelings and the plight of the blacks.
Also if you wrote powerful women you'll drown in the pus.

Should I disregard my current story, then? Also, how attractive are you? I'm an Asian male of average stature with above average looks.

I'm a white American male from a rich family. About 6'2" and I recently did an ad campaign for a local company.
Incest necrophilia is totally cool, as long as you make it sexy.

Woe is me, I am only 5'10".

I second this

Intelligence < Wisdom

Talent < Work Ethic

I don't write, but people who write don't write because they want to be successful. You sound like someone who has no understanding whatsoever of art.
