Fact that I'm forgotten that I'm left on the shelf with the dead white guys in the academic curriculum

>Fact that I'm forgotten that I'm left on the shelf with the dead white guys in the academic curriculum

He knew... he fucking KNEW.

He lived for this whiny, obvious-profound, defeatist shit. He's never quite as bad DFW at least. People here shit on Pynchon, but, at least he never resorts to woeisme porn.

Is agape agape good? I liked recognitions

It's a 90 page monologue by a loopy ranting cancer and emphysema-riddled old man on his deathbed.

Other than the themes/ideas, it's not really like any of his other books.

People here shit on Pynchon because they have the reading comprehension of an 11 year old, or they've only read his bad books (which, to be fair, there are quite a few...)

I've never seen anyone on Veeky Forums shit on Pynchon aside from the sarcastic meme trilogy caption.

It happens a lot more often than you'd think.

I've seen a lot of Pynchon discussion on this board and not one post unironically said anything bad about him.

that's been a thing since the late 80s/early 90s, of course he knew.

Has it really? I just find the image of someone in their 40s or 50s still going around and saying that shit to be unduly pathetic.

pynchon is absolutely terrible

Yes, Harold Bloom's The Western Canon from 1994 was a direct response to it.

thank you for defiling my innocent virgin eyes

you know people used to put effort into their shitposts. now it's just "thing is bad".

pynchon is objectively bad though

see there you go again
"thing is bad"
why do you bother?

That sounds kinda neat, I might check it out

He was ignored in life and forgotten in death.

I was gonna quip a sarcastic epithet there, but now I'm sad.

Personally i couldnt get past the first 200 pages of GR; and i didnt really want to.
Perhaps i made a mistake reading that as my first pinecone novel, but i struggled to take it seriously and felt as if the book was written to simply make a mockery of literary tradition (which i suppose it was lol).Whilst im not against that as a concept, it doesnt make for a pleasurable read imo. Im not sure what people see in it.

There are now. Result of too many memes and in-jokes being kicked up here by those who do appreciate him. Now every semi-literate newcomer who has no business trying to read this kind of thing starts off by breaking a tooth on it

That's because you've taken the retards memeing him as a kekman seriously, you idiot
Try reading things with clear expectations next time

Expectations of any kind are part of the problem. I went into V. having no idea what it was about and loved it.

I went into V. having no expectations and I hated it.

What would be his good ones?

I couldn't stand Crying of Lot 49 and Vineland.
His early short stories are the only of his I have enjoyed.

V. GR and M&D are typically considered his best. Inherent Vice is usually at least thought of as likable.

If i don't like V. i'm fucked? in terms of enjoying his work i mean

>Now every semi-literate newcomer who has no business trying to read this kind of thing starts off by breaking a tooth on it
That's what happened to me but I still don't blame it on the author. Gravity's Rainbow is written with very obvious skill regardless of how little I understand of it.

i've seen people on here say they didnt like V. but liked GR. I personally think V. is his best work and that M&D is overrated

Damn you have shit taste. Absolutely brain dead mother fucker too.
