Are normies zombies (philosophy term)? I am sure they are. I literally couldn't imagine conscious people acting the same way.

>I literally couldn't imagine
You already dream about having as much sex and an actual social life like they do... so... yes, you could

>everyone else isn't conscious like I am!
>they're zombies for having fun!
>girls are subhuman scum!

Well, I have a lot of sex with moderately attractive normie girls. There's no way in hell they're conscious or have souls.

Define "normie"

being different from someone doesn't make them less human than you bro.

It does if I'm the platonic ideal of human

They imitate consciousness. They don't have their own opinions and when you question them they break down to nothingness. It's sad how many 'people' are like this.

This thread made me laugh.

Pop culture has the effect of augmenting the consumer's brain in such a way that all stimulus funnels back to materialism and hedonism. Whether or not it's purposefully done is a discussion for /pol/.

I refer to it as "synaptic trenching".

Sure

Honestly, yeah. I tried to be one of them for a while, can confirm they're all p-zombies.

haha

what are these, normies for ants?

mandatory

Normies are actually more enlightened than you.
They transcended the pointless mental chatter and are now fully engaged in the "human experience", just like God intended.

kek

>Enlightened
>God
Hmmmm...

I'm pretty normal and I'm definitely conscious.

Imagine a life where you have never been great at anything, never felt the urge to be great at anything, never felt that magnetic admiration to someone who was great at something, wanted to imitate and ultimately defeat him. Just nothing. Literally all you do in life is exist to post on Veeky Forums. Occupy space. pass the time.

You're bored, as usual, posting about your fucking dislikes and not even feeling any kind of happiness from it, just soothing your constant need to be bitter and cunty and petty toward other people. Every single thing you've done in the past year was mundane, shallow, boring. You spent the last six hours reading kinda-interesting plebbit stories about people who made interesting buildings for their populace or some stupid bullshit that you think is interesting and you may say is interesting but you're not really sure if it's really interesting. You're just fucking sitting there, gestating, fermenting, with a moist hole between your ears that guarantees you'll at some point have to get up and move around and perform physical labor to support yourself.

And then you see women, over in some corner, having fun. You've never seen this before. What are they even doing? Instead of their consciousnesses merely sitting in their thick skull and revolving around itself, they are imbuing their conscious energy and intentionality into external objects, crafts, goals, projects. All the bitterness and cuntiness you feel nonstop seems to be absent from them, as they congratulate each other for being victorious, and happily learn from someone who defeated them. These creatures are truly content to be alive. They have found purpose in a purposeless universe.

And your gaze turns back on itself, on your self, and you realise you've never had that. You can never have it. So you sit down, you post on Veeky Forums, and you fucking ruin your life, the whole fucking thing. The five seconds of attention you get will be worth destroying it.Because you're failure like OP.

'The One' / 'the They'[edit]

(German: Das Man, meaning "they-self")
One of the most interesting and important 'concepts' in Being and Time is that of Das Man, for which there is no exact English translation; different translations and commentators use different conventions. It is often translated as "the They" or "People" or "Anyone" but is more accurately translated as "One" (as in "'one' should always arrive on time"). Das Man derives from the impersonal singular pronoun man ('one', as distinct from 'I', or 'you', or 'he', or 'she', or 'they'). Both the German man and the English 'one' are neutral or indeterminate in respect of gender and, even, in a sense, of number, though both words suggest an unspecified, unspecifiable, indeterminate plurality. The semantic role of the word man in German is nearly identical to that of the word one in English.

Heidegger refers to this concept of the One in explaining inauthentic modes of existence, in which Dasein, instead of truly choosing to do something, does it only because "That is what one does" or "That is what people do". Thus, das Man is not a proper or measurable entity, but rather an amorphous part of social reality that functions effectively in the manner that it does through this intangibility.

Das Man constitutes a possibility of Dasein's Being, and so das Man cannot be said to be any particular someone. Rather, the existence of 'the They' is known to us through, for example, linguistic conventions and social norms. Heidegger states that, "The "they" prescribes one's state-of-mind, and determines what and how one 'sees'".

To give examples: when one makes an appeal to what is commonly known, one says "one does not do such a thing"; When one sits in a car or bus or reads a newspaper, one is participating in the world of 'the They'. This is a feature of 'the They' as it functions in society, an authority that has no particular source. In a non-moral sense Heidegger contrasts "the authentic self" ("my owned self") with "the they self" ("my un-owned self").

>The mass crushes beneath it everything that is different, everything that is excellent, individual, qualified and select. Anybody who is not like everybody, who does not think like everybody, runs the risk of being eliminated. And it is clear, of course, that this “everybody” is not “everybody.” “Everybody” was normally the complex unity of the mass and the divergent, specialised minorities. Nowadays, “everybody” is the mass alone. Here we have the formidable fact of our times, described without any concealment of the brutality of its features.

The masses are continuous with the proletariat in their desituated, atomised existence. They are people ‘freed’ from specific embedded positions, continuing to exist only as a statistical residue. They are no longer polarised or differentiated. Instead, they are dispersed like atoms. They are created by simulation, not simply portrayed by it.

holy fucking shit dude

It's an edit of a misogyny post:

yes

Oh, look, a Bret Easton Ellis fan.

>I'm ugly and this is how pretty people feel.

>mfw this post

Heh. Fits really well.

A philosophical normie or p-normie in the philosophy of mind and perception is a hypothetical being that is indistinguishable from a robot except in that it lacks conscious experience, qualia, or sentience. For example, a philosophical normie could be poked with a sharp object and not feel any pain sensation, but yet behave exactly as if it does feel pain (it may say "ouch" and recoil from the stimulus, or say that it is in intense pain).
The notion of a philosophical normie is used mainly in thought experiments intended to support arguments (often called "normie arguments") against forms of normalism such as lifting, socializing and having a job. Normalism is the idea that all aspects of human nature can be explained by normal means: specifically, all aspects of human nature and perception can be explained from a personal responsibility standpoint. Some philosophers, like Pepe the Frog, argue that since a normie is defined as physiologically indistinguishable from robots, even its logical possibility would be a sound refutation of normalism. However, normalists like Zyzz counter that "we're all gonna make it brah" and that physiological normies are logically incoherent and thus impossible.

but they are, normies are poor and stupid

says the fox under the grapes... just go out and have fun pleb of an OP

What did she mean by this?

but I'm good at drawing, reading and thinking

DISGUSTING PICTURE OF REVOLTING PEOPLE!!! LOOK AT THEIR FAKE SMILES AND SEE HOW EMPTY AND DEVOID OF MEANING THEIR LIVES ACTUALLY ARE!!!

lmao normies don't have goals or projects

>i'm good at thinking
sorry bro but it sounds like you've been cucked by your thoughts

Ah yes, a nightclub. The perfect place to read and discuss Nietzsche. I'm sure swilling overpriced highballs is really "Dionysian" as well.

Absolutely obliterated

Why are 4channers now so afraid of thinking they're better than other people?

You can't possibly be this delusional.

''Normies'' have goals, projects and ambitions, even if usually related to superficial stuff.

Face it, they want stuff more practical than your most likely faux-profound 'goals'. They want jobs, money, experiences. Actual -living- and not just moaning the meaninglessness of existence. Might sound banal to you, but every particle has its spot in society. Actual successful artists, unlike most of Veeky Forums, are there to give us art. 80% of the society is there to boost economy and allow you to get your coffee at your favourite pretentious cafe. Looking down on them is puerile and pointless, and, sadly, says a lot about what kind of '' ''intellectual'' '' you are.

Afraid someone might tip their fedora at them

According to the Austrian born philosopher Gulenberg, "normality" occurs when people are victims of social conditioning (following the traditions of Skinner and the behavioralists) and have their values shaped by this conditioning, without there being an interplay between the "self" and "the internal", or reflection in the sense of a separate entity.
He says in chapter VI of his book "The Chronological Disintegration of the West": "The conception of Being as separate from nation, social conventions and even one's own emotional and physiological conditions (anthropologically known as the soul) does not arise on "normals".
There are two necessary conditions for such a thing to occur: one of them is a superior intellect and the other is impotency.
Impotency occurs when trained reflexes devoid of intelectual content aren't sufficient for the survival of the individual; whenever this happens, a superior intellect separates "the internal" from the external or even from the interal conceived as corporality, in an attempt to reconsolidate a self so that it deals with the external conditions, or simply so that it can escape from them, or even for the purpose of building mechanisms as to completely modify them [the external] to his own willing. This attempts at rebuilding the self create anxiety and self awareness, possibly the greatest contributing factors to the initiation of all philosophical tradition.

>normies boost the economy
>therebefore; no normies, no technology advancement
so, without normies I could be living a peaceful life in a primitive village doing the same stuff I do now, like writing or reading but without all the paranoia and depression of this era

sounds great for me

Actually this. Normies seem like they're not conscious because they've accepted life as the pointless thing it is, and have embraced a life of work and simple pleasures. They try to enjoy life in unassuming ways and don't take life too seriously.

They don't have pretensions that their adolescent philosophical ramblings are actually important. They don't labor under the delusion that hand wringing with old books will deliver them into some better reality. Ironically, they, mostly without serious intellectual labor, arrived at the point you probably will arive at only AFTER wasting years of your life sitting alone in a room, joylessly reading.

lololol i like how you think of normies as this sort of cattle that's only useful for mass production. [i don't]

A lot of people are zombies, OP. A lot more than you think.

Are you b8ing now or

Actually they've never even thought about wether it's pointless or wether it has a point. They're in a strange neither meaningful nor meaningless trance.
It doesn't even enter their minds.
We all know this because we were all normies once.

>I literally couldn't imagine conscious people acting the same way.

Then they literally aren't p-zombies because the whole point of that thought experiment is to demonstrate the conceivability of a universe with the exact same physical characteristics of our universe but without 'consciousness', implying that consciousness is non-physical.

I'm not posting a quote by him because fuck it, in case anyone used to my subtle Gurdjieff spamming for a while now has noticed, BTW.

Anthroposophist or Theosophist?

Anthrozoosophist.

...

Catching syphilis

I don't think this is a proper representation of what constitutes "normies".If anything they too are repulsed by their social sponges.

Ololololol
